Well, this is one of those "Holy Shit" moments that come along and you just have to shake your head:

... wow, simply wow.
So the question comes up "Do you know how your bank stores its data?". I know I don't... gonna learn though me thinks.

Most broadband in Canada goes through only a handful of companies (Bell, Rogers, Shaw, Telus). However there is still a huge rural population where broadband is not possible given distance and cost of installation so dial-up is the norm. Can't even get DSL in a lot of the rural areas because of the older phone lines. I know when I lived out in the country I was maxed at 28.8 bps.Turquoise wrote:

If it is XP then it is relatively easy to do a repair install. I've done it a hundred times and as long as you keep a slipstreamed disc up to date you will have no issues.
Boot off the disc, opt to install Windows. It will search for previous versions. Select yours and press 'R' for Repair. It will go through the install process but instead of wiping everything out all it will do is repair files and most importantly rebuild the hardware cache.
It's the hardware cache that causes NT based version of Windows to bsod or stop screen when you have significant changes.

Anyone who's done a lot of public speaking will tell you that you need prompts. You need cue cards or something. That isn't to say you don't know the material, it's for being sure you hit on all the points you mean to. Obama seems to want to try to minimize the times problems arise from using a teleprompter and that's commendable.
Some may think he has some ulterior motive: "oh noes I must hidez my failingz!!!11Lolerz" but I don't see it like that. He's trying to be as prepared as he can be.
It doesn't matter anyway... voting for Obama or McCain is simply shaking the left or right hand of the same devil.

I'm a developer by profession. I've worked with encryption and cryptography and I an say without a doubt that anything that can be conceived and written can be broken. It is simply a matter of moving the 1s and 0s in the right order. It may take time but it can always be broken... always.
Anti-copy measures do nothing but become a hindrance to legit paying customers. Pirates can usually break something they want to pretty damn fast. Case in point: Macrovision took almost 2 years to develop CSS for DVD scrammbling. They spent a shitload on it and DVDJon had it cracked in just over 2 weeks. The same with HD-DVD and BluRay. They were both broken shortly after release.
Companies need to take a look at reality and get out of their delusional little bean counting world. Make a good game, charge a reasonable price, without any hassles for those who just bought it and you will profit. Might not be as much as you would like but you'll also save by not having to develop or license anti-copy schemes in the first place.
9 In Nails and Radiohead showed that non-traditional distribution and business models work. Game companies need to do the same.

How big are your VOB files?mtb0minime wrote:
I have Nero 7 installed (Ultra Edition I think) and I'm trying to burn a DVD. I've done this hundreds of times before with DVD Shrink, but after reinstalling Nero a few times and updating, it's not working anymore.
I choose the option "burn DVD video files", like I always had, and drop my .vob files into the VIDEO_TS folder. Only this time it tells me that the file is larger than 2 GB, which a DVD .iso can't handle, and suggests I switch to .udf. I choose a DVD in the UDF format and then drop in the files and it tells me that I won't be able to watch those files on a DVD player and that I should choose the DVD-Video compilation type...
I'm going in circles here and don't know what to do.
To be compliant a single VOB file shouldn't be any bigger than 1024 MB (1 true GB). If they are 1GB each just create an iso with VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS as the folders in the root.
You can also check out Doom9 and see what is up for free software to do it. I believe there are some DVD creation tools there.
I know some homeless PEOPLE from dealings in the community. Everyone I met tries to get work but there is one thing that makes it near impossible.... and that's not having a phone.
It angers me to no end when people bash on the homeless "get a job you fucking slob!"... yeah if only they had a way to hear that an employer wants to see them. How the hell do you get a job when you have no place, no phone, no money to have washed clothing, no money to pay for the transportation to and from work, no food? You need that for any chance of getting of a stable income and getting back on your feet. Someone who wants to give people a break who truly need it would earn my vote every time.
It's not like most homeless are there by choice. Most are in circumstances that people here might be able to relate to slightly but in reality would have no fucking clue how to deal with. Go spend a week on the street and them come back in here and call the homeless "worthless" and "dead".
Astonishing ignorance.

The US government has for far too long let this problem grow and grow. Now it really is out of control. I can't see a way to fix it other than a fast track citizenship for those who are staying in the US constantly (not going back and forth) and working and paying taxes (?). Anyone making money off a criminal enterprise has to go.
You won't be able to manage all that though until you lock down the border. I honestly don't understand the US government focus on their northern border when the southern one makes a sieve look water tight.
But when the government allows the Mexican military to incur into territory and does sweet fuck all about it. When they arrest border agents for doing their job and give amnesty to the drug runners what hope is there? I think the population needs to wake up and realize the current government doesn't give a fuck about you and what you believe in and only cares about the money they, and their party contributors, can make.

I just watched a History channel show on youtube about this Dec 21, 2012 date. The one reason they gave is that our planet will align with the sun and the centre of the galaxy. The idea being that a super massive black hole would cause the poles to shift. Everything I know about how much effect a black hole has, even a super massive one, says that we are too far away for that to happen. Our poles have shifted int he past but I believe I read that was thought to have been caused by a sudden change in the planet's core.

Life is pleasant, death is peaceful... it's the transition that is troublesome.
A currency is only the first step though... next is the creation of the North American Union. There's a reason why they want it too (the puppet masters) and that is simple. Use the military might of the US, the cheap labour force from Mexico, and the natural resources of Canada. To create something bigger and stronger... mainly something that can take on China and Russia.
Problem is, besides the desire for a national identity, that the military might would be spread too thin, the cheap labour would form unions and demand more money, and Canada's resources would be sucked dry within a generation.
The entire idea of an American Union and new currency really bothers me. I'm Canadian... not American. I have very strong national pride and would expect, and hope to see, the same from Americans and Mexicans. You can make all kinds of political arguments about the EU and that sovereignty is retained after membership but I say just wait for the other shoe to fall.

A hypothesis is supposed be speculation free and shouldn't be categorized as a belief in the popular sense of the word. A belief tends to be based on something we can't see or prove. Whereas a hypothesis is based on evidence and science. Or as much as is possible. The idea is to make a determinate and reasonable deduction based on the given evidence.jsnipy wrote:

Then, once this country is safe, secure, revitalized militarily, our OWN people taken care of...THEN we can focus on bullying other countries into submission since apparently foreign fuel is a national security issue...

For your video card the only thing I can really suggest is to make sure your chipset drivers are installed. If you are unsure grab CPU-Z from http://www.cpuid.com/
They have other tools there to so you might want to check it out. Free stuff as well. CPU-Z will tell you all about your motherboard, CPU, etc. Find out your chipset and google and download the proper driver package.
If you have already done that then all I can think of is the safe mode"trick" mentioned above.

Why is everyone stuck in the mid 90's?
Not sure what you mean unless it is about Whitten in 95. If that is the case then it goes directly to the 7 dimensions and Brian Green's "Elegant Universe" as mentioned above.
Besides, I can't seem to recall anything ground breaking in the last few years when it comes to strings. I read about Burt Ovrut's brane collisions in 2002 and that really peaked my interest. Since then though, nothing. Got anything good?
There are the four dimensions of normal experience and the 7 theorized dimensions. In fact it was thought to be 10 dimensions until Whitten expanded string theory by using super gravity's 11 dimensions thus creating M-Theory.
I think we will find that these are all parts of a greater reality.

String theory has to many holes in it to be considered a solid theory. What I thought was interesting is an idea me and my friend use to kick around with our physics teacher. So really the Big bang but with some tweaks.

A better question is how will it end? Big rip? Big crunch? We need a topic on the cosmic apocalypse.
One idea that impresses me is that of M-Theory and brane collisions. It is the one that makes the most layman sense to me.
The idea being that if a string (string theory) had enough energy it could expand to be of massive 2D size and would resemble a membrane floating in multidimensional space. If two of these membranes collided there would be a massive release of energy. We know matter and energy are interchangeable so that energy could result in a conversion into matter. Consider all the matter in our universe as a scar on the membrane we exist on.
What is so nice about this theory is that it allows for time before the big bang.

Good and Evil are human concepts.
God being a bastard is only because WE deem God to be so through our observations of what is around us. If there is a God then our perception and understanding of that being would be like trying to draw precise engineering schematics of the Large Hadron Collider, only with our eyes, and through 5 miles of dense fog.
It is utterly pointless to say we know God. It is ridiculous to say "I know how God wants me to live". What we can say is that we find peace and meaning in our religious believes whatever they may be. That is a generalization but I think you will find it holds weight. For those outside of that generalization I'd ask if your beliefs have made you happy? If not then maybe you should think about that.

I'm kinda amazed at the narrow view of the "I don't believe" crowd that is shown here at times. People keep equating a belief in God to the stereotypes of a religious group, regardless of what that group is. Christians are all bible thumpin' holy than thou leper messiahs, Muslims are all terrorists, and only people who believe there is no God are even remotely sane... but still probably not.
Believing in God doesn't mean you believe everything a holy book says and the extremes of a religion's dogma.

Given that we have a good idea of what processes occur to create life on Earth it is vital that we find out if those processes are possible elsewhere. It would significantly change our understanding of life and the universe.
Titan is the only other body we have found to have complex hydrocarbons besides the Earth. The Huygens probe part of the Cassini mission was really cool. I followed it on the web and on TV. Very neat stuff they found on Titan.
I really want to see a drilling probe sent to Europa, that will be a really intense mission. Europa's torsion with Jupiter creates a lot of geothermal energy, it is quite probable that Europa is the best chance for finding life outside of the earth. We think it is a massive ocean with about 1-2 KM thick ice over top of it (very cold out by Jupiter) but that ocean may have life. Seeing how life can exist in the harshest parts of our oceans it is really exciting to consider.

This is my schism with religion and anyone who thinks they KNOW God.
For me, thinking God creates hardship, or deformity at birth, or anything else that pisses us off in our daily lives is laughable at the least and down right disturbing in the extreme. Anyone who proclaims they know what God wants is only seeking the spotlight, soapbox in hand.
I don't believe in the devil but I do believe in evil as an idea of extremely bad behavior towards others. Allowing a child to waste away and die is beyond disgusting, beyond malicious, it is as close to evil in deed as my belief of what evil is allows.
To hear that this sort of thing appears to be reoccurring in Philadelphia social services is deeply troublesome.

You need to qualify the question though don't you? Is it Muslims or Extremists? I know a lot of Muslims and the majority are progressive wonderful people to be around. Some are conservative but I have never met a Muslim in Canada that wanted me dead simply because I'm not Muslim. In fact I have never met a Muslim in Canada I didn't get along with.
Now if Extremists were the majority I would be concerned. That would pretty much be impossible here so why worry or even contemplate it. Even if a small group were here I wouldn't fuss. I've lived with the fear of terrorists before and I came to one conclusion. Terror is not an effective way to bring about change, in fact it usually has the opposite effect.

Get letters from them explaining what is going on and take those to your profs or to the dean of the department.
