Except that it takes you three minutes to get from the Hotel to the USMC uncap to get the thing in the first place. How often is that armor actually sitting there unused? Any USMC team that leaves it's armor unused -- you are likely to beat that team anyway.Nyte wrote:
And yes, vehicles will self-destruct after awhile, but by putting them in the red zone, most people won't venture in there. I'd say 3 minutes of fighting armorless enemy is better than fighting an armored one.
Stats can be very deceptive with regard to W/L. Just last night I spent an entire round on Oman as Engineer keepting USMC arty up. There were two MEC Special Ops players determined to keep our arty down, but I hung near it, repaired it when down, and killed or slowed the progress of the enemy bent on destroying it, placed AT mines to keep enemy vehicles from approaching so that Spec Ops would have to approach on foot.... etc. I ended up with something like 5 kills to 3 deaths and 8 repair points. Not a stellar round, but I kept our arty up 90% of the round and nobody else on my team was interested in repairing it. The round was a narrow win for us, and I'm convinced we'd have lost by a mile had the arty been down all round.
If it is your favorite server, why not pay whomever you must to reserve a slot?
Exactly. I've never understood why everyone insists that Karkand must be fought in the small area between USMC spawn and the hotel. MEC forces seldom spawn anywhere but Hotel after the initial spawn, and few USMC players head to the west to hit the backyard, or to the east behind the wall to hit the train accident, etc. You'll see a few USMC snipers in the hills to the west, but that's usually about the extent of it..:XDR:.PureFodder wrote:
It's brilliant now, people are actually getting so annoyed with the nade spamming that they've started to go into the rest of the level and fight there instead. You know, actually taking the flags etc.
Imagine my surprise when, last night, the ECGN map rotation landed on Karkand and there were TWO USMC squads avoiding the Hotel completely and heading for the MEC rear. Playing as MEC, it actually made the map FUN, especially since the squad headed for the back yard was good at working as a team rather than just spamming for a quick couple of kills. It took us three MEC defenders a good quarter of the round to exterminate that squad, since they kept spawning off each other.
If the nade spamming is what compels people to avoid the hotel and use the rest of the map, I say long live the nade spamming. It makes Karkand fun again if you are willing to forego the easy points at the hotel.
When you say "you have to look out more" do you mean that it is harder to see things, or easier?
I'd play Songhua more if more servers ran in. As it is, with so many Karkand only and city maps only servers, it is hard to find a place to play maps like Songhua, Dragon Valley, Zatar, etc. I would LOVE to see a 64 player NON-CITY MAPS server.
The only utterly shameful thing I see in your post is, well, your post. What gives you the right to humiliate people who aren't very good at the game? For shame, XIthRyker, for shame.
I think the odds are pretty slim that r0uJe will post his "video" now that FireStorm has been cleared.
Along the same line of logic then:
I don't know how many times I've played with people with higher ranks than me running around and getting wounded and not being a medic. I figured out that getting wounded=medic after about a week of playing. Instead of crying for a medic, run off to a remote spot and heal yourself. I mean, can anyone tell me why it's an advantage to be anything but medic when you are injured?
(Repeat substituting "getting wounded" and "medic" with "running out of ammo" and "support"..... you get my drift.)
It is called TEAMWORK.
Oh, so next time I am playing as sniper and I run into an enemy CP that has empty armor, I should leave that for the enemy to jump into as they spawn?

OK, I'll grant that.... but that still doesn't answer the question about him saying he reported it through bf2rs when all the admins there say he didn't. A lie about something so basic calls his whole accusation into doubt.Hyper wrote:

Oh, BTW, I never did see you respond to any of the Moongamers people who explained that Firestorm couldn't have used the glitch in October of last year, since he wasn't even an admin then.... nor to Indian Scout and others' response that you didn't, in fact, submit your "proof" to bf2rs. Care to here? I'd like to see how you can call FireStorm a liar when it seems you've told some untruths yourself.

Not that I'd get wiped, because my stats suck so bad it is obvious I'm not a cheater. I'm just wondering. Would it be too much to ask that someone from EA come to one of these forum sites and give us some explanation?
I actually applaud an admin that enforces the server rules. I think the real complaint here isn't that FireStorm went through with the kick, but that you guys disagree with the server's rule about teamswitching. I make it a rule to not play on servers that have rules I disagree with, and since there are so many servers out there, I don't see why that would be a problem for anyone. I play on Moongamers servers quite a bit BECAUSE they are well and heavily admined.
Cobra Kai was the name of the "bad boys" dojo in the first Karate Kid movie. Yes, it is silly ("Strike first, strike hard, no mercy sir!) and it certainly dates me a bit, as I'm old enough to have watched the film in the theater. I understand there is some European band or a band's song named Kobrakai, or something like that, but I assure you that's not what I'm referencing, as I don't, as a rule, keep up with new music -- new meaning originating this millenium.
Incidentally, the Mr. is on the front of it (Mr.CobraKai) because when I signed up, CobraKai was already taken by some guy who hasn't played since October.

Realism or not, nice or not, I would certainly rather the developers spend their time fixing the red name bug and the myriad of other problems that are so often complained about in these forums than spend time on cosmetic, "hey wouldn't it be cool" character customization features. How about this: once all the bugs are worked out of the game, fine, work on female skins. But as long as I still hear "I TKd you because your name is RED! You show up as enemy!" I'd really rather they didn't spend time on skins. It's rather like having a surgeon concentrate his time on removing freckles from your skin (I don't like how they look!) while ignoring the massive, malignant, cancerous tumor eating away your liver.
I wasn't making any sort of moral or political judgement on whether the U.S. military SHOULD or SHOULDN'T have women in combat. In fact, I don't think I'm in any way qualified to come to an educated opinion on the matter, so I reserve judgement. I am merely pointing out the fact of official policy and how it would be a contradiction to have female combat skins in this game. My post should be taken in the same sense as pointing out that having zombie or space alien characters wouldn't fit the reality that BF2 is trying, as close as possible, to represent. It aint like that where I am currently residing, nor France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, loads, you guys need to catch up.

Well, I think the problem is that the U.S. military has an "official" stance of "no women in ground combat" -- at least for now. (Yes, yes, there is an ongoing debate about that, but it is against policy). While there are women who are officially in combat support roles and in combat air crews, and of course the instances when support personnel are placed in combat situations (i.e. Jessica Lynch), the U.S. military doesn't put women out as ground-pounders. In fact, just last year the House Armed Services Committee's the Military Personnel Subcommittee "approved an extremely broad provision barring women from serving, not just as combatants (still technically illegal) but in any company-size unit supporting combat battalions and their subordinate companies." (Source - Seattle Post Intelligencer) So having women as U.S.M.C. ground combatants wouldn't reflect reality.
If you already are up to date on your patches and just need this, you need the incremental. The regular (much larger one) is for people who go out and buy the retail box TODAY and have to get all the patches since the game's release.KeeblerEOD wrote:

Isn't a thread about baseraping threads actually a baseraping thread?
The skill isn't in getting the kill.... it is in finding the enemy commander in the first place, especially several times in a round. With the commander dead most of the round, a team has far less of a chance of winning. And even less of a chance if his opposition has a strong commander. If you read the title of the thread it is about getting a TEAM WIN. Sometimes it is hard to find people interested in a team win over stats, though.TeK||drake666 wrote:
gratz u killed a commander in commandmode! where can i learn those skill?
One thing I'd like to add.... if you are Engineer and all three of your team's artillery guns are destroyed and are near each other (think Oman, etc.), don't drop down and repair each one to full one right after the other. Do a quick stop at each one, getting them back up but still smoking, then, once all three are online again, go one by one and do a full repair. This may sound trivial, but in the time it takes to repair all three, your commander could fire them one or two times. And firing with three barrels is much more effective than with one.

Padding is like murder 1, has to be premeditated. Thats about the easiest way I can sum it up.
If stuff happens that is "cheap" but done under the correct circumstances, then its good. Least that is my opinion. (ala grenade resupply etc.)
Mason, you are missing the point entirely. Premeditation isn't about what you SAY, it is about your mindset at the time of the action. Chikler is saying that part of being a statpadder is that one KNOWS that he is statpadding when he is doing it. If you are aware that statpadding is a problem, and you don't want to be a statpadder by principal, it IS possible for you to engage in statpadding behavior without being aware of it. Case in point: On Oman once I was a sniper poised on a hill behind the hotel. Just as I plopped prone and did a scan, I saw an enemy soldier in my scope, and I gave him the ole' what for. Fifteen seconds later, he spawned again and I smacked him in the noggin again. Hooray for me! I'm such a sniper stud! But, lo and behold, he spawned yet a third time. Pop goes the cranium. Three in a row! Then I realized, as he spawned a fourth time without moving, that the player was probably perched on the loo in the next room, since I waited and waited and the guy didn't move. Now, what I DID was kill an inactive player three times in a row at his spawn point. Which is statpadding. But what I THOUGHT I was doing was being a stud sniper (I should have known better, because that is one thing I am NOT) and killing an enemy soldier as he respawned at a CP that my team was trying to overtake. That WOULD have been statpadding had I known the guy was inactive. But I didn't. And when I realized he was, I moved on. So although it was the BEHAVIOR of a statpadder, the intention made it NOT stadpadding. (I didn't shoot him again, but someone else owned him twice as I watched.)Mason4Assassin444 wrote:
Premeditation of padding??? Thats like thought crimes. So if it looked like padding but wasn't pre-meditated it isn't?? That'll stop the screenshots from going to EA. As long as in the "padders" head they didn't mean to, it will all work out. Til those ranks/scores are erased.
"oops" "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to knife you 99 times in a row. Oh...and revive you."
"Its ok. As long as it wasn't pre-meditated dear chap!"
"carry-on"
This is probably an example of what Chikler meant by premeditation.
FFS, it is TEN DOLLARS. That isn't even TWO BEERS at a bar in New York. Assuming you can get a beer at a bar for $5, that's what, two hours of buzz for ten bucks? Here's what I generally spend ten bucks on in NYC:
A pack of smokes (American Spirit, $7), a soda ($1.25) and a fat-ass danish ($1.75) = Lasts a day (at least the smokes do)
Less than two beers at a bar ($7 each) = Lasts about two hours at most
An appetizer at a restaraunt (Fried Calamari $9) and a tip to the coat-check girl = Lasts until the next morning when I take a.... well, you know.
Cab fare less than 1/2 of the way from my work to my house ($21) = Lasts about 20 minutes at most.
BF2 Euro Force Booster Pack = More maps which last THE ENTIRE TIME I INTEND TO PLAY THIS GAME
So FFS. TEN DOLLARS. Did you expect a hooker to come with it? It provides more options, that's it. Jumping Jesus on a pogo stick, you people are never happy.

As they said above, that isn't padding, but I know how you feel. Today, for the first time, I jumped in a chopper as Engineer and, while the gunners blazed away, I repaired the bird every time it was hit with any fire from the ground. I didn't last TOO long, but I did get like 5 repair points, which is quite a bit considering how frustratingly long it takes to get those on foot. I felt almost dirty at first and thought "Wait, am I statpadding?" -- but then realized that this is part of good teamwork: two gunners, a good pilot, an Engineer, and a Resupply for the other passengers to nade/shoot/C4/whatever ad infinitum. I know nearly everyone here learned that ages ago, but I'm such a ground-pounder that I never bothered with it before.My_pet_squirrel wrote:

I get this message every time I install a new patch or expansion pack. The reason is that my firewall (Zone Alarm) sees that the file has changed and blocks it accessing the internet until I tell it that it is OK. The problem is, since BF2 is loaded, I don't see the pop-up message that Zone Alarm gives.
If you use a firewall of any sort, go to the programs list and make sure and BF2 programs or associated services have the proper permissions.
May or may not be your problem, but this worked for me.

Don't worry about getting huge point totals and just play the game to have fun.
That's a good point. I play an all Oman server the most, and I find that it is a COMPLETELY different experience when I rotate into Oman on an all maps server. The one-map servers take on a life of their own. If you want to enjoy Karkand again, don't get on 24/7 Karkand servers. Get it off a rotation on an all maps server. There is WAY less nade-spamming and way more teamwork.superfly_cox wrote:
I've always liked Karkand though I haven't made an effort to play only city map. Last night I got onto a 64 player Karkand-only server and it was one of the worst bf2 experiences i've had. Everybody was obsessed with whoring of some kind and nobody seemed to play to win.
Conversely, when I have played on servers that rotate through all the maps or even the city map the experiences on karkand have been fine.
Also, if you DO join an all-Karkand map, don't complain that everyone is a sniper or support or medic if YOU are playing one of those kits. Go as Engineer and LAY THE MINES YOURSELF. Don't complain that nobody else does. Well, unless you want to hear everyone else complain that YOU were claymore/pkm/shock paddle whoring.
Mine too. I'm going to try installing a soundcard and try it from that instead of the on-board sound on my motherboard. I run the audio setup thingy and it works fine.... I set the levels, yada-yada. But it won't work when I run the actual game. It is so frustrating. I have printed out dozens of "tips" from different people all over the forums and I'm going to try them all, one by one, tonight.LOSER|Tearsofromance wrote:

Well, if the rule is posted on the server info portion of the load screen, you have NO excuse for being kicked for violating it. I've seen a few servers with rules that I thought were crap and I just quit loading it. As long as it isn't against the ROE, and IndianScout twice decided that it isn't, then it's fine by me. I wouldn't play there, but if I did I'd abide by the rules.
Was playing MEC on Karkand. A HMMWV took off along the west side of the map all the way past the square to the point where the four occupants would bail and hoof it to the CP up on the northeast (can't remember the name.) I, as sniper, happened to be crouched behind a wall no more than 10m from them as they were approaching. I knew I was toast -- couldn't run or I'd be seen, but if I stayed where I was, they would run right into me. So I spammed all my nades nearly straight in the air one after the other as the hummer was stopping. RIGHT as it stopped, the nades went off in quick succession. The driver tried to reverse but the vehicle was jammed between the wall and a hill and couldn't move. I guess they stayed in the vehicle, thinking it was safer, or that they'd manage to get away. Well, the last nade blew the thing, killing the entire squad. More luck than skill on my part, but it WAS better odds than 4 to 1 with a pistol.
I had the same experience with another clan, so I don't blame you for posting here. This was on a server I had played many times before. What happened to me was that one of the clan members TKd me with a jet. OK, no problem, I forgive. I respawn, go back to where I was headed, approach the spot he TKd me, and BOOM, he bombs me again. *Sigh* Forgive again. I type "quit with the jet TKing please", respawn, and head off again. BOOM. He bombs me a third time in under two minutes. I punish. Sorry, but three TKs by the same guy in two minutes is either intentional or just plain stupid. That deserves a punish. Of course, two minutes later I'm booted. "Admin decision."
I rejoin and demand to know who booted me, and why. Of course, it was the TKer himself. Reason: I punished for an accidental TK. I said I punished for three by the same person in two minutes, not one TK. He says if I have a problem with it, take it up on their forums. Kicked again. Admin decision.
I go to the forums site, sign up, and find the thread that deals with admin complaints. I post the story much as I did above. The thread is deleted five minutes later. I make another thread asking why they would have a thread for complaints if they just delete them. Thread deleted, account banned. I make another account, post again, and finally get a response that is basically along the lines of "you must have been banned for being an asshole or a n00b-tuber." Thread closed, new account banned.
The point is, there really ISN'T a point in posting a grievance on most clans' forums. The deck is stacked against you from the start. (As if you would know the "proper channels" of a clan to which you do not belong.) I appreciate the warning, though. It is nice to know which servers are "clanocentric" and don't tolerate dissention.

I have historically played Assault more than all the other classes by a large margin. Sniper is my second favorite, but that's when I'm in the mood for tactics and stealth rather than brute force. Recently I've been playing other classes about half the time as I get better at the game and can understand what is NEEDED for the team rather than what I WANT to play. The G3 is my favorite weapon, and I like to be in the fray so to speak. But when I notice there is a paucity of supplies being dropped, or that our arty is getting hosed and noone is repairing it, etc., I will change classes when I get killed to help out. I don't play medic much at all since everyone else does. There is seldom a need for more medics.
I ignore it and spawn somewhere else. There is little point in fighting back, since every death is a ticket against your team, not to mention the time spent on revenge is time missed capping enemy flags. We ARE all team players, right?
The point is that all RANKED servers must abide by the same rules. You want infantry only? Fine, great! That actually DOES sound fun. Do it on an unranked server.
A few comments:
First, I've never been TKd for a jet, but you'd see why if you look at my profile. I'm holding off, for the most part, on trying to fly jets until I think I've reasonably mastered piloting them on local servers. I understand how valuable jets are to a team, and I KNOW I'm not good enough as a pilot to use them. Not yet anyway. It has been said countless times before, but, and this is coming from someone with only 17 total minutes in a jet, and only 6 kills as aviator, not a "jet whore" as some like to call them: If you are still learning how to fly a jet, DON'T do it on a populated server. The ONLY exception, IMO, is if you see that a jet is at it's spawn point and an enemy WILL get into it if you don't.... THEN jump in the jet and give it a whirl. (That's where my 17 minutes in a jet came from.) That is the ONLY way you help your team as a pilot who sucks at flying.
That being said, what I can't understand is why, on a server like Wake, four, five, sometimes nine guys will all be on an empty airfield hopping around like mad, waiting for the jet to reappear. Not just for a second or two, but for minutes on end. Even if it DOES appear, the odds of you actually GETTING the jet are slim unless you TK. Helicopters spawn nearby and leave with a pilot only or a pilot and one passenger, yet the jet people are still there, hopping around. I've seen this while playing commander on Oman countless times. Half of the USMC team is on the carrier hopping around while MEC forces waltz in and take the four beach flags with little or no resistance. It is almost as if there is a large portion of BF2 players who, if they can't be in a jet, don't want to play at all. So they send half the round waiting while the enemy takes all the flags, snipers pick them off, and arty comes down in waves around them. THAT behavior is JUST as selfish as TKing to get the jet. If there is NO jet at the spawn point and, when you arrive, someone else is already waiting for the next jet to spawn, MOVE YOUR ASS and get into the fight some other way. You are NO better than the guy who TKs for the jet if you spend more than a few moments waiting for the spawn, since both cost the team tickets.

Don't use the words "whore" and "whoring" as suffixes for every behavior, strategy, or action that you disagree with or wouldn't use yourself. Not everyone plays the game exactly like you do, and the various strategies and player behaviors that exist make this game rather interesting. Nothing is more annoying than listening to people whine incessantly about "sniper whores" or "artillery whores" or any other "whore" for that matter.
My most played server is Moongamer's Mostly Oman server, and I must say it is one of the better admined servers I've seen. The admins give warnings when people are doing something that could get them booted, but actually DO boot teamkillers, etc. Just the right amount of admining. Perhaps this was an isolated incident?
Of course, it is possible, even likely, that your weapon didn't outperform his, but that YOU outperformed HIM. I killed some asshat with my pistol at a range of about 15 feet whilst he was draining every round of his PKM without hitting me a single time. His aim just sucked.
I've noticed that some snipers get spooked when you spot them after they hit you the first time and start returning fire, and instead of taking the time to get careful aim at you (even though they only need ONE more hit to kill you), they just start spitting rounds out as quickly as possible.
