il take a stab at this. the comfort zone of a harden criminal is not the same for a first time offender, so you can't treat them the same. However, on the otherhand, all it takes is one murder to end up on death row...Would it be accurate to say that life in prison is worse for the non-hardened criminals while death is worse for hardened criminals? I never thought of your argument that way before, really changes the perspective.lowing wrote:
well I already made my argument for life in prison, and it went ignored so I will tell you.Jenspm wrote:
I understand the argument, but I disagree with it.lowing wrote:
for human rights to apply, you would need to emulate humane behavior. It would also mean you hold a child molesters life as just a sacred as his victim. Surely you can understand the argument against that notion.
Although the victim may have been a better asset to society, and of higher value in that sense, the molester's right to life isn't of any less value than anyone else's - it can't be, it is, in my opinion, infinite - and no-one has the right to take it.
If faced with the choice of saving Ghandi or a child molester from a burning building? Ghandi.
If given a gun and a bullet, I'd kill neither.
If life in prison means, life of routine, life of responsibility, life of complacency and comfort zone. That is not a punishment.. If you favor life in prison with anxiety, and turmoil, you have won me over for life in prison.
As I said before, ex cons commit crimes for the sole purpose of going back to prison and their comfort zones. When life in prison really does become worse than death for criminals, and they fight to be executed instead of fight to stay alive, I will support life in prison.

you think the ontario teacher's pension plan is good? you realize ontario is going broke because the public sector holds it by the balls.
is that a brag post?JohnG@lt wrote:
Why is this forum inundated with foreigners trying to teach Americans about their own history?
just curious as to where to find statistics that show killing an inmate is more expensive than housing them for life. links would be appreciated.
I don't have twitter, probably never will, but I don't have a problem will those who do use it. Actually closing your eyes does make you free of the idiots that surround you. Take for instance private property, no idiot will be on your property if you don't want them there. The internet works the same way, if you don't want to view stupid twitter updates, don't view their profile.lowing wrote:
I don't follow anyone, what I speak of are those idiots that do follow them and those idiots that feel the need to be followed. Just because I close my eyes does not mean I am magically free of the idiots that surround me.JohnG@lt wrote:
So don't follow him. Free will and all. You get to choose who you 'follow'. Same as you can choose who to be friends with on facebook. If someone posts something that offends you, defriend them or stop following them. All that control, all that power, right at your fingertips! So, if you see someone posting about their bowel movements it's your own damn fault.lowing wrote:

and no, time has not passed me by, I get it, I simply see no reason to follow around some jack off on twitter waiting for him to spit out his next thought, regardless as to how trivial it might be.
And as for you not understanding their choice in friends, well, there's a lot of people that don't understand your choices either. We're not all the same, nor should we try to be. Life would be hideously boring.
The second figure says a lot. A lot of people here in Canada think we're handling the recession well compared to most countries. When you look at the figure as a percentage of GDP, we're clearly not. GDP may not be the entirely story of a country, but it sure is important.
I actually enjoyed the trailer. Won't know for sure until we see gameplay for the multiplayer. We can't expect DICE to make the same game twice, CoD has clearly influenced them, for better or for worse. If you want another BF2 game, go play BF2.
cant wait to see adjustment bureau, looks really good.
a bit long? anyone in any social science program at a university will know what a long read is.
yea Harper is definitely a control freak, at least over news. Last year, Harper showed up at my local college (Niagara College) and my friend in journalism was in charge of getting together questions. Well lets just say, the prime ministers office censored all questions and banned certain topics. From what I've heard from friends doing federal internships with the Conservatives, he keeps a real tight leash on everything.
cant believe lowing thinks Obama is a Marxism. Are you kidding me? In regards to his healthcare policy, its no where near Marx like policy. All he did was mandate YOUR choice of private health insurance.
He is right about greed existing in in socialism as well as capitalism, can he really deny that capitalism allows for greater exploitation than socialism?
If you still don't believe that they control heads of governments, then that means you haven't done enough proper research, not because say your lacking research abilities but because that further information is being kept from you. Hence its real.jord wrote:
I've done as much research as I'm going to on secret groups, if they're really that secret people shouldn't be able to do any kind of proper research on them.LostFate wrote:

There probably are these secret groups but how much power they wield is probably overestimated.
I think the freemasons have no influence on anything other than their own members. Maybe I'm wrong, or maybe I'm right about the freemasons but there are other more powerful organisations out there. In which case ignorance is bliss.
I've heard of the bilderberg group, the nwo, the illuminati, free masons, knights templar and all that, and I still don't believe they control the world of the top governments.
this thing has so much potential, they better not screw it up... didn't they try and pull this beta key activation junk on us for bf2142?
It's just the type of justice system used. Here in Canada, we don't have a count system, ex. you murder someone, you get charged with 2nd degree murder only once. I actually like the count system and the way it's used in the United States because it sort puts into perspective the actual amount of pain someone can do.
Would vote for Ron Paul if I could (be American)
I think you nailed it when you said capitalism creates inequality. That's exactly what it does, destroys the middle class. I'd like to hear where more people are on this scale, a poll would have been nice.oug wrote:
4 as in I have no debts, but that's because I don't really own anything of value either. The money I make barely takes care of my basic needs, but that little extra that makes you happy some times is scarce. Plus, the way things are going around here, not only will I not see a raise any time soon, but the money I make will seem less and less what with all the prices going up.
Anyway: what's wrong with being rich? Well... the problem lies with the fact that capitalism creates inequality. Only few people succeed, thus making disproportionate amounts of money. On the other hand, more and more people are forced to live with less.
On a personal level, I see nothing wrong with being rich, it is after all everyone's dream to live comfortably and without worries. I try not to judge people based on their wealth. But that does not include the super-rich and those whose only goal in life is money. But even then there are differences between people. Bill Gates for example: he made a business, it was uber-successful, he made a ton of money. But I have nothing against him, no matter how much money he has. On the other hand, you have people like Vardinoyannis (Greek shipping industry bastard) who made money by breaking embargos and selling weapons wherever there was a war going on. Now fuckers like him, I wish dead.
Whats the point of only a two party system? It's horrible, you absolutely limit any type of change happening. Look at both McCain and Obama, look at how similar they are certain issues, its stupid, you'd think they belong for the same party. Not to mention how impossible it would be for a third party candidate to get anywhere when the media is so biased against them.Flaming_Maniac wrote:
Two party system assures that petty bullshit is minimized due to lack of targets.
When there is only one other party to target there is only so much mud to dig up and time that can be spent attacking the other party before you become a broken record. Especially in a society like ours where gossip and vicious personal attacks are gobbled up by the public, reducing the crap that makes people pay attention to irrelevant issues instead of the real issues can help lead to better informed voters.
I think the main objective was to prove that anyone can sue anyone, although by suing God you kind dismiss your disbelief in God so nice failboat Ernie.
He don't have that much pull.
Ye, I would say so, I mean I'm in the same generation as you and all I can say is it doesn't look good. Neither McCain or Obama will solve anything. It seems to me the GOP and Dems are very similar on certain issues, it's like both candidates are from the same party, the fucking do nothing party.
if you dont like taxes then i wouldnt advise coming to Canada.
Doesn't matter which lever you pull, they both are for mccain.
I think I need to see some attack ads first.
See, this is where your wrong. I fucking choose to null at 2 failed options. I don't understand serge, why all of these questions with only 2 possible answers? What is there to prove?????? dear god.sergeriver wrote:
You can only pick one. What would you rather be? A white religious folk or a black Atheist? I'd rather be a black atheist.
Unless your in connection with the NWO, don't plan on being actually elected
Argh, I hate both of these candidates. Atleast McCain's wife doesn't get involved in politics as Obama's wife. Obama's wife goes on all of these tv shows and acts all important.
Can anyone find one for one written now about the late 2000 century?
I'm going to have to agree with parker for once. Downloading music, who's is harming, retarded uber rich record companies that don't give a shit about the artists they "claim" to support? It's not even stealing, it's sharing. Governments have bigger problems to deal with other then people who downloading music & movies.Deadmonkiefart wrote:

Dude, the whole pirating music era was because cd's were too damn expensive. Now they've made them cheaper and they've made it so you don't have to buy a whole album if you only like one song. Is .99 really too much to pay? I'm just asking this as a musician who has music on Itunes, lol.
I don't even like Apple's, but they are superior for certain functions. I'd never be the guy who bought an apple to surf the internetz and blog about how good my starbucks is, but if I were opening my own studio, you bet your ass I'd have a Mac in that shit...
On topic, Big Red seems to love an old fashioned censoring every week or so...
They are the same family Bush and Clinton, so both of them fucked it up as one.
He looks like prince charles
I only wish on there that you could completely get rid of military.
I just don't understand, McCain know nothing about the economy.
Lowing just doesn't understand some people are not born into this world with the same advantages as you. Yes thats right people, lowing expected everyone else in society to be left a huge fortune just like he was. Just because some people are having trouble financially doesn't mean we should just let them roll over and die. If I were homeless I too would vote for someone who would be willing to hand out money to homeless people. I'm not sure how you became so possessed in such a selfish idiotic way but maybe some time homeless would do you some good.
Yeah, I'll man up unlike parker here. Scared of it sure, but I find you can easily distract yourself and forget about it and live life not thinking about.
....There were people that knew about the attacks before it happen. Agents closed off parts of the towers before to "do some maintenance", but were really loading the place up with explosives. Important people were told not to fly that day. I'm not for every crazy conspiracy but it's important to question to stupid shit government does.Braddock wrote:
for example a conspiracy theorist may believe that the world trade centre was deliberately demolished on September 11th because of the the shape of the roof and debris plumes at the time of collapse or the diagonally-cut column stumps seen in the debris in the aftermath. Interesting observations but ones that don't explain how the explosives were all put in place without arousing any interest prior to the catastrophe or how no one has ever let slip about the operation despite the number of people that would be required to implement such a plan.
I think Kmarion put it best of what is exactly going to happen.
If you guys think this is bad, wait for when they want every person in the world to get an RFID chip implanted in them. No wonder the politicians don't know anything or do anything about immigration, why build a system to stop illegal immigrants coming in when you're going to eventually make Canada, United States and Mexico one borderless country. And on Alex Jones, he's probably going to be the first guy on the red list to be sent to a FEMA camp and be killed, while the newspapers will call it a "suicide".

Why make another section to make these people feel more important than they really are?
I remember when I made this topic and flaming maniac had a cow, shows how biased of a mod he is when he closes mine but engages in this one.
It doesn't matter when they put out of Iraq, because right after they'll be pulling into Iran.
Ron Paul, Hope for America.
He's probably in Gitmo by now.
Yes because the government(s) would still hate their people and want to hurt them with or without religion.
wheres the Vietnam option?
I can't believe that the police actually traded jail time for her parental rights, how the fuck is that justice?
