I also had this kind of 'LAG'. 1sec smooth 0.5sec freeze. I deleted all PB stuff and reinstalled PB. LAG disappered. F*cking PB... ok, but it keeps cheaters away.

There seems to be some postprocessing in this video. The exhaust of the helicopter an the jets for example. I cannot say wich smoke/explosion effects have been added afterwards.
I recently played some BF2 after a long break. Daquing Oilfields. It was horrible. Due to a good(?) enemy pilot it was impossible to do anything on the ground. Spawn, live for 30 sec, die. So i tried a new mobile AA technique: Driving to a place which is far away from common ground paths and staying outside the AA, due to the "get-a-free-frag-box" in the HUD of the planes, and waiting for an enemy plane to fly by. First of all i was mostly killed by a plane while driving to such ground-safe-points. Sadly the Pilot was diving in and out of a bombing area, so there was no time to get a lock before he was out of range and his flares disappeared.
Do you have any additional tips regarding lock-on in spite of flares? TIA

Stay with the action! Be near the front. Dont hide in a place nobody walks by.
Nice. this would be my only chance to get the 1337 movement, im too old to do it. Why not bind a key to some nice prone-crouch-sprint-jump-action move.
lukeimnotyoufather: Excellent accuracy with assault rifles. A infantry player. Lives in Karkand. Very good kill streak. A team to combat ratio of big 0,68.

2. Adjusting "Geometry" will improve the distance that you can see dynamic objects (vehicles, people). Again, unless your system is horrible, this should be at medium or high. If you have this set to low, then you will see dynamic objects suddenly appear at about 80% of your maximum View Distance. For example, if you have your geometry set to low, you will struggle to see people on the ground when flying the Apache as a gunner.
Oh my god! The responsible settings programmer should be hung, shot and stoned. Its retarded, stupid and ILLOGICAL! Why? See this points:
[*] What do most ppl understand regarding "geometry setting"? 3D mesh compexity of objects and LOD changing regarding distance. But NOT 'view distance' cuz there is a 'view distance' setting.
[*] 'Texture quality' setting does NOT imply TERRAIN TEXTURES as it should do. So if you want to have nice terrain textures you'll have to accept more terrain objects and higher terrain LOD.
[*] 'specular maps' (water on floor, shiny metal effect) are COUPLED to 'shadow maps' in the 'static lighting' setting. Goddamn i LIKE 'specular maps' but i dont want static shadows.
[*] Since 1.3 'dynamic shadows' cannot be turned on without 'static shadows' being on. It is logical but gives you a disadvantage.
[*] 'Texture filtering' setting is made for idiots. WHAT IS LOW/MED/HIGH? Bilinear, Trilinear, 4xAF or 8xAF? OK there is a AF setting at least, many retarded games do not offer AF setting ingame.
It would be MUCH BETTER being able to have a "ADVANCED SETTINGS" feature like every other good game has. There you could set:
AA, AF, specular maps, shadow maps, normal maps, object view distance, terrain view distance, terrain complexity, object complexity, special effects, dynamic light, dynamic shadows, texture quality and so on.
Ok i measured the object view distance regarding the geometry setting. View distance was 100%.
geometry low:
Infantry - 120m
Tank - 220m
APC - 188m
Jeep - 125m
Stinger - 90m
TOW - 75m
geometry high:
Infantry - 195m
Jeep - 218m
Stinger - 145m
other - map was too small to get a clear view on the object
So you can see AT LEAST +75% FURTHER on high geometry setting!!! If the same value applies to infantry then i'll be much better now. This would explain why i've been killed by invisible TOWs and why my gunner sees much further than me.
How retarded could the programmer be to not imply 'object view distance' into 'view distance. AHRGH!!!
Yes, the first number is FPS the second is time between frames in ms.
If anything else than "view distance" affects view distance then DICE is a bunch of idiots!deject wrote:
Aparrantly there are some other settings that affect your view distance. I'm not sure what they are, but I heard that the Geometry setting can also affect your view distance.
Somebody noticed a setting which affects view distance too?
Well, 'terrain view distance' seems to be much(!) 'bigger' than 'object view distance'. This is very annoying, i permanently see objects pop out of nowhere. So many enemies surprise me, because u cant see them although you should. BS
Hehe this is good.funkstrong wrote:
[...]A good example would be taking the AT weapon away from the AT kit, and you could only kill vehicles with other vehicles and TOWs. Thats what air vehicles are facing.
Well Helos are balanced now i think. But planes have practically no enemies except jets and mobile AA: Take support kit, drive with your tunguska to a place where enemy ground units cant find you, GET OUT of it and wait. If a plane fliess by, give him 6 suppositories in his hot butt. Most pilots dont use their eyes, they only rely on "the boxes" and "grey flags".
But stingers are too bad. DICE often placed them really bad: On oman the beach stingers face in the wrong direction: WHO has ever managed to shoot down a APPROACHING jet? They have to face away.
Conclusion: Stinger kit would make helos too weak, but planes would FINALLY have to FEAR SOMETHING.
A GOOD SOLUTION would be a (stationary) defense system with a relative SMALL attacking radius, but everything inside this radius that flies has to be EASY QUICK PREY. This would be fair. Planes would not attack this small AA defended points. I mean planes flying over real PATRIOT sites are dead meat.
Does anybode else have this 'bug'? If you turn constantly and press your zoom key during turning, then the zoom view appers correctly, but directly after this the view "jumps" in turning direction once instead of moving smooth. This does not happen in single player. So its some client-server issue.
This is so annoying, it often means death while playing a 'mid range sniper', because you cant lineup fast enough fot the life saving headshot with this "jump". I overshoot because of this. Can this be solved with some setting?
TIA

Thats the big question. Remember the "Kyro" graphics card and the "village" benchmark? The Kyro owned Atis and Nvidias cards in special circumstances. I dont know if Nvidia and Ati STILL use the brute-force-method: Calculate EVERY pixel of things in your viewing direction and decide AFTERWARDS with the help of the Z-buffer which pixel is not visible. This causes perfomance loss called overdraw. But today the two companies try to calculate which pixel is visible and which not, as early as possible. Early enough?EvilMonkeySlayer wrote:

No, it wouldn't it'd only really tax memory if the texture was large but since it's 1x1 it wouldn't affect performance at all.
You have to remember that the stuff you can't see doesn't get drawn/rendered.

Would be a solution, but AFAIK it would double the amount of texture work done by your graphic card.EvilMonkeySlayer wrote:
As a VERY easy way to temporarilly (sort of) fix this they could create a 1x1 sized texture that is black and apply it to the other side of objects in BF2. (for example buildings etc)
That way the idiots inside wouldn't at least be able to see people to shoot. But, I suspect that'd be too much effort on EA/Dices part.
BTW it is not a "wall hack", its a simple "engine exploit". Wall hacks are AFAIK progs that allow you to see enemies behind obstacles.
Have to find yout how to do it. I will be able to kick their "asses without honour".
For me all the SMGs have the same accuracy as the DAO12.
I perefer the DAO12 in all situations, the only problem is knowing how many shots are neccesary to kill someone. Mostly 3 or 4 for me.

Am i wrong, or do many high rank players, 2nd Lieutenant and above, evite running by foot? Mostly i see many of them in an APC on Karkand, in a bomber on Oman or in a helo on Sharqi. So do they have this behaviour, or did this behaviour lead to their rank.
U cought a damn f*cker. Nice.
In BF42 it was easy to kill those kind of exploiters. Grenades often could be thrown INTO buildings due to a poor collision algorithm.

Sure, but the problem is, when i cut someone's throat i expect him to die.Spark wrote:

Hey, i just got an idea. Why don't do it like in "Spliter Cell": A nice grab-hold-and-cut animation.
Respect. So what can you tell us about the abilities of planes and the effectiveness of AA systems against aircrafts?
Guys dont forget: Gameplay in more important than realism (for DICE and me). So you'll never find a 1-shot-1-kill-handweapon in BF2.
If BF2 was realistic, you wouldnt be able to fight after one recieved shot. Weapons wouldnt be incapable of shooting father then 50m. Tanks would (perhaps) die if hit by a single Eryx. And so on... To my mind it would be less fun.
Shall be no offence: Its quite interesting how ppl pick out a weapon (system) and want it to be realistic every 2 weeks.

I cant remember if there was a time with no 2-stab-kills.

I still have to stab specops and snipers more then onnce in most cases. But i also had some strange knife kills against supporters at a range of 1,5m (5 foot) while moving like hell.

Found a new one on a "air maps" server:
"Do not switch seats to TV-missile mode." Or something similar.
Whats the purpose of this? Loosing lock? Not flying alone?

Strange, 10 hours ago it worked perfectly, none of the bugs mentioned above. It perhaps still works.<b|k> lukie wrote:

Holy shit, thats the deal. I got 2 times 15 kills with AA and NO badge. Why not? After shooting the missiles i LEFT the AA for not being a target for everyone, then they hit the taret. The message was "lukie [Tunguska] a planewhore" but the game didn't register it as a AA kill. Again a BUG. -.-
Enter your ping range i.e. "160" and refresh. Then remove the "160" and sort by "servername". Now servers shouldn't jump or disappear. HTH
Server browser is worse then it was before. -.-
+now you can search for "servername" and "map" at the same time
+don't need % character for mid-string-search any more
-weird pings, therefore ping filter has to be turned off after a scan
-player info appears after ages of waiting
And all those design-mistakes or bugs:
Nades and eryx bounce off leaves and bushes. You cannot sprint over small obstacles, you stumble a bit. If you exit a TOW before it reloads, wait a bit so it can reload alone, you have to wait 2-3 seconds after getting in to be able to fire it. Not to mention the eryx/tow/missile-tunnels-through enemy bug. And in 90% of the time i need 2 or more stabs with a knife to kill someone.
Sorry i'm a bit pissed at the moment.

Every idiot can hit with bombs. And if your godf'ing useless team pilots are not interested in hunting enemy planes but bombing flags, then you're really f'ed. Yope, im pissed at the moment. I also met a enemy godlike MI-28 gunner, i didnt even get a chance to lead my erxy in hiss ass. Stinger were not availible.
I think "relaxation time" is the right word. In DC you could really see the deviation while moving perfectly because of the crosshair size.
This "relaxation time" would be really important for sniper rifles: Do we have to wait 1 second before firing, or not?

Yope, on the one side some awards are a joke. AA and GD i.e. Repair needs balancing also.
But on the other side some awards have to be hard to get even for good players, there have to be the right rare circumstances for these badges. Why? There has to be some kind of a award-slope, some awards have to be a sign of real skill (or statpadding ).

Does anybody serve in an army around the world and/or knows how effective AA (Stinger, Patriot, SA-Family, ...) is against planes? I mean can an US fighter (not a stealth bomber) fly over China without being shot by a air-to-ground missile? Is AA useless against planes in RL?

*FG* I know why ppl spawn at the airfield only. There is no good taking a tank or APC because they'll be bombed to pieces a second after being manned. The only hope are jets. lolpolarbearz wrote:

Spawning at conc site and hotel gives you 2 apcs and a tank, but NOOOOOOOOOOOO everyone wants a piece of the jets, so good for me, i'm getting more kills, sucks to be you, you refuse to spawn at any other flag but the airfield and get capped back to the uncap.
Shut the fuck up, bend the fuck over, and die like the stupid bitch you are.
Well i liked BF1942. You could change almost everything without PB bitching: Sounds, textures, animations, models and minimap elements. I changed in DC the shotgun animation, made the M1A2 quiter (original sound caused headache) and changed the knife to a batleth. (Range and damage were not changeable of course) Now you can't do anything. Sad thing about this: Lightskins couldn't be detected by PB.DecJW wrote:

I dont care about security of IE7 at all. It can be full of holes and bugs. BUT it HAS TO interpret HTML/CSS/PNG/Javascript/... properly! It must not hinder web designers in their crativity because 80% of 'humanity' uses it.
Bombing is easy, easy kills, no doubt. Surviving other jets (and perhaps AA) isn't.
What is experience? Well, i think this: Knowing where all AA are located and which field of view they have. Knowing best approach routes for gunning every flag. Right approching is essential. Watching minimap to chose a rich target.
By the way, the higher RANK you are, the more powerful vehicles you HAVE TO use. E.g. Bomber on Oman or tank on Karky. Noblesse oblige !
And if someone wants to investigate my stats. If i get a plane, my only priority are enemy planes. Keeping them busy keeps them from raping my team.

So conclusion is: DICE likes mainbaseraping. Otherwise they would have put 3 Stingers 4 Tows and more than 3 f'ing spawnpoints in the mainbase. I would have put a ub3r-defense-gun inside the mainbase.
This is a GAME! A game is intended to be FUN! So anti-main-base-rape rules assure FUN for 100% of the players and not only for 50%.
So some rules ensure FUN for ALL, and not POINTS for HALF of all.
And if your team suxx, you have absoluteley no chance of changing the situation, when being nailed to your uncap. DICE should have designed uncaps safer and more capable of self defense.
And it really suxx being on the baseraping team. It is so boring, absoluteley no challenge, nothing to do.

In case BF2 has no ping-compensating, you need to lead a running target (3m/s) with a ping of 20ms approximately by 2*20ms*3m/s = 12cm or 5inch AT LEAST!
Why? Assuming a ping of 20ms, you see a guy on your PC, but in reality he is already a bit further, because the information you got from the server is 20ms old. Now you shoot the guy, but your information takes 20ms to to the server, so effectively you have to compensate 40ms. That means, shoot there where the enemy will be in 40ms.
But i think DICE implemented some kind of compensation for the feared "client side hits" well known from bf1942, because i seldom had client side hits in bf2 regarding vehicles. Remember DC? Trying to hit a slightly moving helo with a tank? You had to lead A LOT!

Shock paddles have a big range. (In singleplayer) you can shock a gunner of a vlodnik from the back entrance.
Does somebody know why i almost always have to stab people 2 times to kill them? Does armor absorb the first hit?

Fully agree. Best games are balanced games. Being owned like hell isn't fun, but owning n00bs isn't fun too.
A "intelligent team balance" would be nice. Depending on the points earned the round before, players will be put into the teams balanced. I mean three 50-points-player on MEC and three 50-points-player on US side in the next round.

This ingame browser still freezes, because it is poorly programmed. If a clicked server doesn't respond or whatever else, the menu is unusable. No abort button, no timeout.
The good thing about this browser: It is fast, and you see the points of the two teams separately. So you can see immediately if teams are f'king unbalanced, regarding points and skill.
