I'd like to know, if there are more bf2 players on this forum that are pilot in real-life.
I am myself a F16C pilot at Volkel Netherlands airbase 312Sqn cpt. Richard.
Flew for 1200 flight hours in my F16C.

I know BF2 isnt any realistic about flying, but i like it.

Please share your aviation background.

Respect. So what can you tell us about the abilities of planes and the effectiveness of AA systems against aircrafts?

What do they really call the flying stick that they use on airplanes? I know it isn't called a joystick, lmao...

Well, i used to play Combat flight simulator and FS2004 alot, not anymore. Don't even have a joystick now, i'm still interested in planes and whatnot though, moreso cars but still. I'm thinking of going into Aviation after i leave university but who knows, anything can happen.

The flying in BF2 is fun, it has a good feel and doesn't punish you so bad if you make slight mistakes. I'll probably get a joystick but for BF2 it really isn't needed.

How did you end up in the airforce flying F16's anyway? Just curious,

A fighter jet has more then one control unit.
Dont forget the Rudder Pedal system, which must be controlled with your feet (left & right).
And there is trust control, to speed up or down.

The last control unit (answer to your question), is the throttle for up & down movements.

The AA in bf2 is really FAR from real.

Depends on what AA is used (patriot, stinger) but in most cases, locked means death.
Thats why we operate at high altitude.

Abilities of an F16C?

Power Plant F-16C:
one Pratt and Whitney F100-PW-200/220/229:  27,000 pounds(12,150 kilograms)
Length 49 feet, 5 inches (14.8 meters)
Height 16 feet (4.8 meters)
Wingspan 32 feet, 8 inches (9.8 meters)
Speed 1,500 mph (Mach 2 at altitude)
Ceiling Above 50,000 feet (15 kilometers)
Maximum Takeoff Weight 37,500 pounds (16,875 kilograms)

For the record, the F15E Strike Eagle doubles this performance.

A person I once SCUBA dived with works for the Dutch Military and opperates a Patriot battery. Those things are pretty destructive and once locked you can't escape. Nice thing to mention ; the Patriot radar also locked onto cars on the nearby highway Talk about a traffic jam reducer

How does gaining altitude affect a jet's performance? Teller me 'cause I don't knows (and don't want to go do independent research [please!])!!!!

The higher you go, the less dense the air is, which means less air being pulled into the engine for combustion.

That's what I was thinking, but I was confused because in BF2, you get faster the higher you go (thus...soopreem befuzzlement).

Well, you do go faster.  The air is less dense so the plane moves thru the air better, and it also increase fuel efficiency to a certain point.  It all depends on the design of the engine.

I really have no bearing on the workings of engines (especially jet ones) and our atmosphere . Although it was always obvious to me that video games aren't a representation of real world actuality, just kinda' made my uh...lack of situationally significant knowledge...a little more transparent (even though, in this regard, BF2 was mostly a party of correctitude). So uhm...will jets go haywire like they do in BF2 at a certain point in altitude?
