Counting in the errors in that graph, 2011 may as well fit into the grey area (or even worse, far below it), which I assume is the boundary for the results with maximum deviation from the mean 1979-2010 value.
But that video shows some pretty severe shrinkage (if it's to be trusted), and while I agree that the mankind has contributed its share to the greenhouse effect, It's hard to believe that greenhouse gases are the major cause of it, it's simply too fast.

Played metro (rush mode), feels like Call of Duty (guess that's the mode to cater MW2 fanbois) with bigger (badder) map.
Too much foliage, rocks and cover, and it feels too big for that kind of play style, there's no way you can check them for possible threats.
It truly is a mindless rush, hoping to not get shot in the face by the guy hiding 5 meters away in a bush while you run towards the objective.
But yeah, conquest is gonna be it I hope (else I'm gonna return to beheading people in TF2)

I know that not everyone is like this lowing. But the whole point you were trying to make is that we are in wrong because we don't meet burglars with guns, like you do. And there's one of our differences, we just don't view this kind of things like you do. Maybe we would have, if we had piles of illegal guns floating around.
Thank god we don't.
Thank god we don't.
@lowing
We obviously don't, there's NO NEED to carry a gun around here nor to keep it at home. There isn't. It's not like the crime stats are skyhigh and the govt. just won't let us carry guns. We have other problems to deal with, crime on this level just isn't one of them.
And my case was about petty crimes, like stealing a toaster or 50 EUR from someone, you don't get prison time here for that. So combined with the fact that most of our cities have a population of about 10-20k, there's a quick way of finding this guy again if he has some previous records.
If the continues to break the law though, he might be facing some jail time.

Criminals are not feeling comfortable, most of the time the local police already know who to question first, who's the prime suspect, etc when it happens. Because there's a really small percentage of population that's doing this stuff. Murders happen very rarely, most of the crime stats are filled with burglaries. And the police ARE my solution, unless there's a life threatening or some very serious situation, I'm not gonna take a law into my hands, that's why they are there.lowing wrote:

Crazy idea but you know, more guns doesn't really mean more safety.
I am safer with my gun in my nightstand or on my hip. Why? because our criminals DO carry fuckin guns. and it is futile to get into a chicken or egg debate over it. I carry because criminals carry, and I will give myself a chance at defending against them.
And usually people get their stuff back. And even if they don't, buy it again, forget it, get over it. Shit happens and the odds of you getting robbed again are very small.
But I guess your world is a different world and maybe you do need a gun to feel safe, I don't know. But don't try to impose your views of safety to others and making our governments look like shit cos they don't allow everyone who can write to carry a gun. Again, gun doesn't mean increased safety here and there's no need for your gun laws in every country.

As for you in jolly ole England, can't help ya, your govt. has forbidden you the right to defend yourself by any real method, so yeah hel pthe criminal load your stuff in his car is really your only choice if you don't want to endanger yourself.
Secondly, any normal person here doesn't even think about keeping a gun in the home (unless he's a police officer or has affiliation with the army, even they aren't allowed to carry guns around freely (talking about soldiers off duty)) and the rate of burglaries isn't that low, they happen quite frequently. But there's almost NEVER and by never I really mean never any casualties or wounded. That's probably connected with the strict gun laws and the fact that no one can overreact and shoot/kill, either the burglar or the victim.
But I guess when you have millions of guns in the circulation your views shift and morph into the thinking that every delinquent out there is out to get you and your family.

I really don't understand why should anyone be pulling a gun on the burglar trying to steal some stuff. What I linked certainly isn't the only reason why this shit is happening but it's arguably one of the major reasons. I can relate the riots with similar incident we had in our country last year when a student organization literally used naive/stupid students for demonstrations on its behalf (related with student work - students would be in a pretty much same position if the law passed or not).Uzique wrote:

It lasted for a day and ended in a parliament building getting bombarded with granite cubes. The majority of students was drunk, loud and disorderly (to put it mildly). They didn't even know why the fuck were they protesting, main reason was to get drunk, skip classes and throw shit into cops and parliament. There was no economic crisis involved whatsoever. They didn't do it because they were desperate for changes , they did it because they were immoral and plain fucking stupid and just needed to destroy shit out of pure arrogance and ignorance.
While the economic situation is different in GB now, similar principles still apply. Situation escalated to this proportion mainly because younger generations who are involved in it have no sense of authority and little or no morals. What even sparked the riots? Some shady gangsta dude got shot. This was no student uprisal in China. This was a riot consisting of people, who have nothing better to do than to rob stores and set stuff on fire without any real apparent reason. Well in reality, there are many reasons, as you said, from socioeconomic to family and society related (dysfunctional families, etc etc.). But covering all that is beyond me.

Emphasis on FUNDAMENATLISTS, so this doesn't get mistaken for another "religion is evil, kill the religion" bullshit post.

The point is, it was not the only one which stood in the way of science. Feudalism reigned over Europe at that time, wars were fought constantly, Muslims were pretty much present on Iberian peninsula the whole time, etc. etc.Kmar wrote:
Their leaders supported it. They did stand in the way of science, in the most sadistic of all ways. That is without question. Galileo's teachings were condemed before he even had a chance to speak in front of the the catholic leadership. That isn't to say they haven't also contributed. We have the big bang theory (Georges LemaƮtre) for example. The fact that there has also been contributions does not erase the past.
The Church (not the Catholic scholars) didn't really give a crap about most of the scientific progress that went on. It was interested only in progress which could imply some heretic notion. You mentioned Galileo, he was very religious, the problem was he was also very fond of Reformation (Martin Luther). The whole argument between him and church isn't as simple as "omfg you heretic earth is the center of the universe now go and live in your house for the rest of your life".
There were so many factors involved in the development of science at the time that pointing the finger at Church at saying "It's your fault we aren't in star trek era yet" makes little sense.
The vast majority of people feared Inquisition like hell. Public executions always attracted lots of people but I wouldn't go as far to say that everyone there was a bloodthirsty maniac who enjoyed that kind of stuff.Bertster7 wrote:

Not all Catholics supported the Inquisition, and while there is no doubt it was responsible for outlawing and impeding many scientific works and scientists, you just can't deny the fact that various Catholic orders (like Jesuits) preserved an enormous quantity of knowledge through the the whole middle ages and contributed a lot to spreading this knowledge among people via numerous universities.
So saying that Catholics are to blame for human development retardation is far from accurate (to put it mildly).

a/ You're making all the Catholics guilty for the work of an Inquisition lunatics. This is pretty stupid.Uzique wrote:
catholics have a lot more to be sorry for in the last 1,000 years of history

b/ Since you said in the last 1000 years I'm going to assume you're talking about Inquisition, which started in the late 12th century.
While it holds some responsibility for "retarding human development" in that era, the main reason for that lies in decline of Roman empire and so called Dark ages which were a direct consequence of that.
Example: contrary to popular belief, most of academics in middle ages recognized Earth to be a sphere and not flat. And guess what, most (if not all) of those academics were Catholics.
I'm not trying to defend actions which were done by Catholics in Inquisition, I'm negating the fact that human development was majorly retarded because of these actions.

Alamut by Vladimir Bartol
The story is based on a life of the presumably first political terrorist, 11th century Ismaili leader Hasan ibn Sabbah.
Much more than a prophetic treatise or political allegory on terrorism, Alamut is a gripping story of one man’s unmanacled drive to play God and the human price paid by the innocent to fuel that drive.
I've read it some months ago for my schoolwork, I must say it gives quite some views on the justification of terrorism, especially after the war-on-terror has started. To sum it up, it gives you a lot to think about gruesome nature of the mankind and how can one threaten and nullify so many lives in order to achieve his goals. Extremely recommended (not just because the author is the same nationality as me:p).

Since I haven't found any specific thread about this great browser game (it has cool and detailed pictures:P), I'm starting a new one.
http://www.ogame.org/
The official description of the game:
OGame is a strategy-game set in space. Thousands of players across the world compete at the same time. In order to play you only need a web browser.
My description:
When you register for free (only mail, account name and pass are needed), you get to choose your own universe in which you are going to play. Once you do this, you start on a randomly selected planet in a solar system, which is positioned in a galaxy. So every universe is divided into galaxies and solar systems, each system can hold up to 15 planets.
You start with a minimum amount of resources, which are metal, crystal and deuterium. At the beginning, everyone concentrates on building and upgrading your mines, which produce the resources mentioned above. After some time and some decent upgrades, you can start building your defenses (rocket launchers being the cheapest, different sorts of lasers and ultimately, costly and powerful plasma turrets) and making even more upgrades on mines or you can start building your fleet and raid other people with it. It all depends on your playstyle. Once you build a research lab (which should happen quite soon) you can conduct more research on different fields (new types of defense and attack ships, improvements on armor and attack power, faster building times, etc etc).
The game is quite complex and I described only a small portion of it. Things like rapid fire, profits, graviton research, what RIP means, advanced defense and attack strategies and descriptions of different playstyles can be found at the pages below:

Barcelona deserved to win, Chelsea played like shite after they've scored (turtle tactics?) and they really can't be proud of Drogba tbh. Referee sucked but who cares, both sides were affected by his decisions.

People hate it:
-because they force their opinions to other people
-because they give 20 year old footages as proof of animals being constatnly tortured and aboused
-because they are hypocrits
-because PETA mostly consists of people, who don't have any idea what's going on, it's just popular to be a vegeterian
Strict laws almost everywere around the world forbid torturing of the animals, beef farms are regularly inspected (at least in developed countries), when animals are killed it only takes a short moment.
But PETA insists that they should be freed. Yes, go back to nature, constant fear of being eaten by any animal higher in the foodchain. Nature isn't like a fucking cartoon or something. It's cruel. Hunt for meat, looking for water, walking for tens of miles per day, ... And when the end comes, you don't die quickly and almost without pain. It's a whole different story (including liver, leg bites, being eaten alive, ...)
Eating meat is natural, people are omnivores and no vegan/vegeterian/whatever will change that.

Played with the settings today: E6320 3.2 GHz Orthos stable on 1.47 V. Core temperatures never exceed 55 C. The thing was, my northbridge was burning hot. I found an old 8 cm fan somewhere, mounted it on northbridge and voila, 10 degree temp drop.
I will test some more today morning (almost 1 am here) and see if I can get it stable on some safer voltages. And when I think about it, I too think 65 is too hot. I was ocing my graphic card lately and 65 there is almost low lol:).
Thanks for the info btw:).

Wow. But temps aren't so high (65 full load). But what is the default vcore for C2D anyway?
Any overclocks? Did you check the temperatures? It sounds like a classic overheating problem.
Increase northbridge, southbridge voltage, ram voltage and vcore. You call 1.4V high? Mine E6320 is at 1.55V:).

Sooner or later, you will overclock. And with C2D, new mobos and sensors it's almost impossible to fry anything, so don't worry.

You mean pcie? And again, there won't be any difference:)
You probably think that the 512 MB one will perform better. It won't. Big amount of memory only comes in at high resolutions, but the 7600 core is too weak for anything above 1280*1024... even that res is probably too high. Not to mention that huge 20 MHz core overclock...
Check your PCIe mode. On P5B Deluxe it lowered to 1x when overclocking (especilally when going over 3.0GHz), this might be the same. Of course this means huge loss of performance.
Doom is not allowed in this thread.
