It's a nice idea, but I don't think it'll hit it off too well on the consumer end.  I personally think I would get irritated with this new product faster than I'd enjoy it.  Although I'd like to see how gaming would work.

yeah if u watch the last link the one with the bill gates they say they are going to be releasing to the public first only to MS market partners and other businesses. From there on it will expand to the customers.

With a price tag between $5,000 and $10,000 per unit, Microsoft isn't immediately aiming for the finger painting set. (The company said it expects prices to drop enough to make consumer versions feasible in three to five years.)

According to the WAPO also.

Yeah, I'm sure there won't be many average home user buyers at first, but that is a very good product for businesses, especially bars, restaurants, etc. Especially with it's ability to take orders, "be the cashier", etc, that could save you a good chunk of money over time.

not sure if you watched all of the clips, but I like the one where you can just place your credit card on the table an the PC will take off the correct amount from the credit card.

also I like the feature with the camera.

I like the idea of setting a digital camera on the table top and having it auto-download the photos via a wireless connection. I wonder how that would work on the digital camera's end?

not at all probs, unless you buy a surfaced enabled one that costs 500$ extra. The thing I'm concerned about is the PC auto reading my credit card info. Imagine the possibilities after infecting a surface PC
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

That is what I was thinking - mucho dinero $$$ - added to the cost of the item. The output port is going to need more power (that of the camera; or whatever) to send via wireless.

Also that credit card thing - yeah(!), new tech. = new problems.
