Yeah but how about if someone gets your GUID and reports you for hacking? Besides which I was on my own clan server playing with and against regular players and clanmates who would lose all respect for me. I just left the server straight away and came back in.

Bear with me......
I was playing on my clan server today and after a few minutes of sneaking around and getting 4 kills unharmed I decided to use my UAV to help me aim the airstrike i'd get after my next kill, my UAV didn't seem to work (I ignored this thinking it was just a bug) but someone elses came up and I saw that there was an enemy around the corner. I killed the enemy and pressed my button to use my airstrike.... still no luck.
Again I took this to be some sort of bug and ignored it, I turned the next corner and ran into 3 enemies who I took out with a few bursts from my Uzi, at which point my screen was flashing red and one of my clanmates commented on TS 'bloody hell Vega I could have sworn I hit you then'.
Turn the next corner and i'm on top of one of the enemies flags and converting it to my teams when suddenly I start getting shot at, I get the usual hit indicators and the flashing screen as I turn to face the enemy, who turned out to actually be 3 enemies, they all empty their mags into me with no result - i'm still alive and kicking with just a flashing screen as if to say i'm on the verge of death.
At this point obviously the other team figured out what was going on and started on the chat
'Vega you haxor'
'Vega is hacking omg noob'
'Vega wtf you're invincible'
'My gun is broken'
etc etc
At this point I was extremely confused and kinda worried I was gonna get instantly exiled from my clan forever, one of my clanmates pipes up 'Vega are you unable to pick up any weapons or use your air support?' By this time I had ran out of ammo for my uzi and tried to pick up and enemy gun for more ammo - couldn't pick it up.
According to my clanmate he had been playing on a server a few days earlier when the same thing happened to another player who was told by an admin that they had seen it before and that the only way to sort it out was to logout of the server and log back in again.
I logged out, logged back in - everything back to normal.
Anyone else ran into this???

The name 'Vega' came when i started playing Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six - Raven Shield, i'd decided to take the name of one of the characters from the book 'Rainbow Six' and Julio Vega seemed the most badass of them all (he's one of the teams machine gunners and uses an M60, he's also built like a brick shithouse)
The =FDX= part of my name comes from my old Raven Shield clan ¦FÐX¦, we were pretty much the best clan in the UK and probably one of the best in Europe until the game was ruined by cheats. I still keep in touch with my old clanmates but few of them play BF2 (most of them are waiting for the next Raven Shield).

I'm 99.9% certain that every single weapon in the game is an actual real life weapon, the M107 is just the US Army's updated designation for the Barrett M82 - when the M82 was chosen over the M95 to be their .50 Sniper Rifle they re-designated it M107 (in the same way that SOCOM re-designated the SCAR-L and SCAR-H as the Rifle Mark 16 and Rifle Mark 17 respectively)Spearhead wrote:

I don't think they should add more unlocks, I think they should tweak some of the stock weapons, like the M16. That gun is insanely accurate, although that does pertain to it's real life counterpart.
He meant they renamed the M82 to the M107 because of a law, or something.
Tweaking the M16? It's already the weakest, why the fuck do people hate it so? It's NOT automatic, it's WEAK, 90 percent of noobs think it's the worst weapon in the game, and it takes skill and practice to use it correctly. And you want to make it WORSE?
I don't think there's anything wrong with the M16 but i think that the L85A1 should be made more accurate because at the moment the M16 is better shot for shot (if you don't take the extra zoom of the L85A1's SUSAT into account)
Sorry mate but the Desert Eagle is nothing but a 'Hollywood weapon' in the same fashion as the Minigun that Jesse Ventura hauled around in Predator - not at all practical and certainly something not seriously considered for military use. If we were to have pistol upgrades it should be something with a 3-round burst facility like a Beretta 93R or Glock 18.eX1L31857 wrote:

I don't think we need any more guns but i'd like to once again bring up some fantastic ideas that i thought up in some previous posts -

Would be cool to have mods for the weapons, but only certain weapons should have certain mods to keep balance, for instance you would have to choose between a Scope or a Silencer for your M16. The Scope increases accuracy at range and decreases your field of vision, the Silencer allows you to kill quietly but decreases your range. Everything has pro's and con's so that you have to compromise. Below is a list of the Pro's and Con's as well as the ideas I have for the weapons.
Suppressor (Silencer) - Kill silently but decreases range
Scope - 2.5x magnification (like the L85A1's SUSAT) increases accuracy but decreases field of view
Aimpoint - Same as what the M4 and SCAR-L have - imcreases accuracy slightly but decreases FOV
Scope AND Rifled Slugs - Extends effective range of pump-shotguns at cost of area damage
High-Cap Magazine - Doubles the ammo in a pistol clip, halves the total ammo carried
Laser Sight - Aiming reference that doesn't restrict view but can be seen by enemy
Thermal Scope - Allows Snipers to have a clear view of enemies obstructed by buildings, foliage and vehicles
Assault Rifles -
M16 - Scope or Suppressor
AK101/47 - Scope or Suppressor
G3 - Scope or Suppressor
F2000 - Suppressor or Aimpoint
L85A1 - Suppressor or Aimpoint
G36E - Scope or Suppressor
Carbines -
M4 - Scope or Suppressor
QBZ-97 - Scope or Suppressor
Ak-74U - Scope or Suppressor
G36C - Scope or Suppressor
SCAR-L - Scope or Suppressor
Shotguns -
NOR982/M11-87 - Scope AND Rifled Slugs
Pistols -
92FS/MR-444/QSZ-92 - High-Cap Magazine or Laser Sight
LMG's -
RPK-74/M249/Type 95/MG36/PKM - Scopes
SMG's -
MP5/Type 85/PP-19 - Aimpoint and Suppressor or Laser and Suppressor
Sniper Rifles -
M24 - Thermal Scope
M95 - Thermal Scope
Type 88 - Thermal Scope or Suppressor
SVD - Thermal Scope or Suppressor

My ideas that I posted before should probably be limited - maybe with each unlock you earn you should also earn a weapons upgrade.
For instance - for the 10 unlocks I have in my account ( http://bf2s.com/player/43786882/ ) I would unlock the following upgrades
Suppressor for my G36C
Rifled Slugs and Scope for my M11-87
Laser Sight for my MR-444 (because the iron sights are shit)
Scope for my MG36
Aimpoint and Silencer for my MP5
Thermal Scope for my M95
Thermal Scope for my M24
Suppressor for my SVD
Suppressor for my G3
High-Cap Magazine for my 92FS
These Weapon upgrades are selected with an extra button in the Class Selection Screen and can also be viewed in your BFHQ with stats showing how they affect the weapons.
So with my new idea, everyone is limited to a certain number of upgrades (impossible to unlock them all and each weapon can only have one).
God i'm a funkin genius!
Well you only got one more kill than required in that screenshot, when i got my SF Sniper badge i got 40 or so kills before it registered - probably due to kills registering as suicides or some other reason. Looks like you'll just have to try harder - 50+ kills is really not all that difficult on Warlord, Ghost Town or Surge.
Not sure if you're referring to me or not but yes i have trained with the USMC, Rangers, SBS and Royal Marines - hoping to meet the IDF some time soon.millhous wrote:

Theres no doubting that that the USA has by far the biggest and best armed forces on earth but they rely heavily on technology (which often lets them down) and money (the country and therefore the countries armed forces are basically owned by the corporations) If we're talking about the best trained then it has to be Great Britain or Israel.
Britain has many hundreds of years of history (something the US certainly doesn't have), many of it spent at war with someone or other, for this reason Britain has the best disciplined and one of the best trained armies in the world. As for comparing Special Forces (how many times have we heard this discussion and how many people are speaking from experience), nothing comes close to the SAS and SBS. Give a Delta or Ranger a bergen and tell them to do Pen Y Fan and they'll shit in their pants - The Rangers don't come close to the Parachute Regiment in terms of training and they aren't even considered Special Forces.
Israel has been at war for pretty much the entire duration of it's existence - what better way to be trained to the highest standards.

Re-read what i said and you'll see that i said on a decent round on CERTAIN maps i can own pretty much anyone or anything. It also doesn't matter about what range i encounter someone, when you're good with the pistol it's easy to get kills out to 100m+, any further and you just seek cover or use the AT missile.=FDX=VEga wrote:

The idea of giving the AT class a rifle or even a carbine is ridiculous, the idea of the 7 distinct classes in the game is that each one has a job to do as part of a TEAM. If the Anti-Tank guys can't do their jobs properly then its the fault of the Assault, Support and Medics in his squad who need to give him some cover. Just to make it clear -
Medic - Heal and revive friendlies and Light Infantry
Sniper - Long range fire support and reconnaissance
Assault - Name says it all, Heavy Infantry who should be first into the CP
Engineer - Vehicle driver/pilot, repairs friendlies, mines areas
Anti-tank - DESTROYS VEHICLES - thats it - no need to be taking on infantry in great numbers
Support - Provides heavy fire support and resupplies friendlies
Spec-Ops - Demolitions of enemy commander assets and jack-of-all-trades light infantry
The anti-tank kit would be completely overpowered if given anything but the current weapons, on a decent round on certain maps i can personally own pretty much anyone and anything with the DAO-12 kit. Given a decent assault rifle, the strength of the kit would be ridiculous - The person who had the idea of giving the AT kit an assault rifle with a scope is a penis - that would be combining all of the good parts of the Assault kit (body armour and assault rifle) with the good parts of the AT kit (ability to kill vehicles at range - something no other kit can do) as well as adding a scope to the rifle.

A Kord is the 12.7mm MG mounted on the top of FAVs, Vodniks, T90s etc - the equivalent of the Browning M2 HB which is found on the DPV, HMMWV and M1A2 Abrams.
HYDRA is 70mm WAFAR (Wrap-Around Fin Aerial Rocket) used by the AH-1Z as well as Apaches and Eurocopters.

Gotta be the M95 simply because it allows you to do something that no other unlock (or default weapon) allows you to do - kill pilots and drivers through cockpits and windows. After the M95 it would be the DAO-12, a weapon that turns the Anti Tank kit into a jack of all trades - DAO-12 kicks arse in CQB, Pistol for range and SRAW/Eryx for extreme range/vehicles.

So, a nice shot indeed but it became a beautiful goal because of a keeper error.
Any WC goalie should have deflected that shot.
Great post and a +1 for you.
My thinking is that Sven should probably play 4-5-1 in the next match with Crouchy up front and Cole Lampard Gerrard Beckham and Lennon from left to right in the midfield, if Lampard is playing shit again they should get rid of him and bring young Theo on and revert to 4-4-2. Rooney should also come on at half time for Crouch (so that he doesn't go mental when Sven takes him off again) My theory is that it doesn't matter what team we put out as long as it's got Stevie G in it cos he's god anyway.
Just my 50p

Yep thats a safer route and therefore one i'd use. You can also climb the ladder underneath that CP and take the flag while still on the ladder, if any trouble comes along you can just slide back down and escape.
Passenger guns in the DPV and FAV are the respective armies LMG's
The gun on the American vehicles is a .50 Browning M2 HB. The one on the PLA and MEC vehicles is a 12.7 'Kord'
You're correct about the Parker-Hale Model 85 being a big contender to the Accuracy International, but that was the Accuracy International PM as opposed to the AW (Arctic Warfare) which the British Army has since adopted as the L96A1. The PM was the original model but the AW is vastly improved.Todd_Angelo wrote:

In all honesty there might be 30 guns (probably more, including historical models) that are good enough for most sniping roles. For extreme range the actual accuracy of individual rifles can and does vary beyond the paper performance - just like with cars you can get a good one and a lemon - so a lot of this is just theoretical anyway. And let's not forget a Ma Deuce was used for Hathcock's famous kill!
Agreed. The SVD is officially an 'infantry support weapon' or 'marksman rifle' designed to extend the range of the Soviet Army's infantry squads, when it was introduced to the Soviet army every infantry squad had a man with an SVD.DeadboyUSMC wrote:
I'd have to say anyone that uses the SVD isn't quite a sniper. Come on, that thing's basically just an assault rifle with shity refire rate.
The L96A1 is most definately a sniper rifle in every sense of the word, it was designed from the ground up as such and was intended as a replacement for the Enfield L42 (another sniper rifle incase there was any doubt )
If you want to be REALLY anal about it then you could quite easily say that the L96A1 is one of only 2 sniper rifles in the game (the M24 being the other one) - the M95 is intended primarily as an anti-materiel rifle and the SVD and Type-88 are 'infantry support weapons'.
Aside from all this, the M24 isn't even the standard rifle of the USMC - it was replaced by the M40 and its subsequent models which have been improved over the years by the Marines and others. The L96A1 is widely considered to be one of the finest rifles in the world, many companies have tried to create something to rival it but it still beats 99% of them. This is coming from someone who has used the L96 and many other rifles for REAL, not in a GAME.
In conclusion - ditch the bitching and stop pretending that using anything but the L96 suddenly makes you more of a sniper than the 'L96 noobs', if someone is comfortable with the L96 then they should use it, I've been using it but i still go for the other rifles depending on the map and situation. They all have their strengths and weaknesses and no one rifle is better or worse if you know how to use them properly. It's my theory that lots of people only use the fucking thing cos its got a cool noise anyway
SVD, M95, M24 or L96 - All snipers are equal (except for Nyte - who sucks)

I think the reason people go on about the sniper kit is because of the fact that its so different to play with and requires much more skill to be really good with. Sure anyone can just pick it up and piss people off by getting the occasional long range kill, but to really use the kit effectively, to be able to consistantly make first round kills beyond 200m and finally (and surely most importantly) to really make a difference to your team, you need to be pretty skilled.
The same elitism can be found in real life, Snipers live in a secretive world which is so close and yet so far away from the world of other soldiers, they learn the same skills and take them to extremes that other soldiers wouldn't even think about. Real snipers are taught to avoid elitism and to treat other soldiers as equals, spotty little 12 year olds from Toronto aren't quite so humble

Today i reversed my T90 over a teammate in a BMP3 behind me, somehow managed to destroy the thing and got 2 team vehicle damage points before it blew up. Fortunately he lost the points for the teamkill so we both lost points for what happened.
Depends greatly on the situation, if i'm playing a CQB map like Karkand, Mashtuur or Sharqi then i'll usually reload if i have any less than 20 rounds (unless i have the G3 then its less than 10) However if i'm playing on a wide open map then i'll usually try to conserve my ammo cos the chances are that i'll use more before i die than on a manic map like Karkand.
If i'm a sniper I always conserve every last round from my rifle, i'm usually on my way to a new perch if i'm reloading (unless i'm in a particularly safe spot) so it doesn't really hinder me all that much. I really hate being stuck with just a pistol and having to sneak around till i find a support guy or supply crate so every shot is important.

Best score as a sniper was on Wake - 202 points (also my overall BRS) Got 80 or so kills, loads of assists and loads of flags defense/capture points. Just kept moving stealthily from point to point and laying claymores to cover the obvious points of approach. My commander realised i was his best chance of keeping the flags so he kept me happy with UAV's, Supply Crates and spotting, this meant that i knew when to move on to another flag or stay and defend for a few minutes. Think i probably bagged myself about 10 choppers during that round as well (M95 + flag capturing chopper = boom headshot)
Haha thats good stuff. Pretty sure i've done something similar before and been very late for work, bosses just don't believe you when you tell them a story like that.
I have a clan tag (=FDX=) but FDX is my old clan from Raven Shield and we aren't active in BF2, we still all keep in touch and occasionally have a game of BF2 (those that own the game). I now wish that i'd anticipated the addition of the prefix feature in 1.03 because i'm pretty sure the tag at the front of my name will stop me from getting in most clans. I am looking for one however
G3 is the old Bundeswehr rifle (German army standard) and the G36 is the new one. The G36E is the export version of the standard rifle (The Spanish army use it) and differs only in having a 1.5x sight as opposed to the 3x sight featured on the G36.FFLink13 wrote:

I spent my time between 20K and 50K practicing my sniping and getting the 100 hours in for my gold badge (mostly) Now i have more trouble missing than i do hitting and i reckon i can kick just about anyones arse when i've got a scope to my eye and i've just finished a crazy shift at work (annoying customers = limitless aggression) I'd definately say if theres a class you don't play all that often then try to stick to that for a while, when the Veteran Support Combat badge was the only one i didn't have i'd only played 4 hours so i spent the next week playing almost exclusively with the M249 and RPK and found myself wondering why i'd stayed away for so long. And if you really do need to continue sniping you really can't do much harm to your KDR while using that shiny new L96, and if you ever need a sniper buddy feel free to add me on XFire
P.S. Just noticed you haven't got your Expert Pistol Badge yet - very good fun to get this badge but the hardest part is just getting the 500 global kills, try some close range sniping and finish off your targets with the peashooter.

I've done a lot of sniping and it really all depends on the situation. I normally go for the Bolt-Action rifles (M95, M24, L96A1) cos i'm more of a one shot kill sniper than a five shot kill sniper but i did have a very good round with the SVD yesterday on Mass Destruction (40 or so kills). If i'm getting bothered by helicopters or there are a lot of PKM'ers around i'll switch to the M95 but i'm not quite as proficient at heashots with the M95 as i am with the M24 and L96A1 (I get headshots with those rifles probably 70% of the time, at any distance) so i stick with those 2 when there are long range shots to be made. I'd say the best rule to follow is to stick to what you're comfortable with - if you're a hide in the corner and pick em off from a mile away kinda guy then go for a bolt action sniper (preferably the L96A1 or M24), if you're a run around and get in the thick of things cos you're not bothered about your KDR kinda guy then definately stick with the SVD, Type-88 or M95.
I'm veering towards the M95 as my favourite rifle simply because i fall somewhere inbetween the two styles of play but seeing as the L96A1 is a rifle i've known and loved in the real world and its one of the few British rilfes i'm going to have to go for that one.

They are all easy on the right map, i'd say Engineer or Anti-Tank but they can easily get the kills on Karkand or Sharqi. Sniper is easy (50+ kills on my favourite sniper map Sharqi is not a problem) and so are the others. The only difficult thing about the combat badges is spending 100 hours playing with them.
Ok ok I found a better picture from the greatest film of all time 'Commando'
Shortly after Arnie fed this deer he beat it to death with his PKM, skinned it and mounted it on his wall. Later on in the film he goes on a rampage with his PKM and generally rocks all over anyone who gets in his way.

My favourite picture that springs to mind when I come across one of the million PKM-whores playing BF2 now -
Not sure what my Global Rank is and can't be arsed to check but i've got decent accuracy with the Sniper Rifles (53% and gradually climbing) and a decent KDR ( 2.36 and gradually climbing but i'm trying to play as a sniper less often now to get myself some more gold badges)
I'm never going to get anywhere near the top of the world ranking because I haven't the time to put in 200+ hours as a sniper.

All of the USMC guys should just be chunky motherfunkers like the 'Big MEC' and they should add a Somali army into the game with some maps based around Mogadishu (sounds like another booster pack to me). Instead of grenades the Somalis get an unlimited supply of stones to throw at the USMC with each one doing 10 points of damage. The Somalis should also be able to run faster and the USMC should be able to do 'the truffle shuffle' as a special move which makes everyone within a 20 metre radius collapse with laughter.
I love it when people try to vote me out, just means i'm playing well. It's a real compliment.
Had a 2nd Lieutenant constantly trying to vote me and a friend out yesterday because we formed a very good squad and kicked arse for several rounds, he started called us 'noobs' and 'fags' because we were 'camping'. Well it's my opinion that theres no such thing as camping in BF2 because its a game of attack AND defense - we just happened to be defending a flag which he was too stubborn to give up trying to take. You would have thought that a 2nd Lt would have enough sense and experience to take a kicking like a man.
As for the PKM, I don't think its all that overpowered, it still requires some degree of skill to use and in the right hands any weapon can be overpowered. The only thing that needs to be changed is the recoil, its should have varying degrees of recoil depending on whether you are standing, crouched or prone. Theres not a man on earth, apart from maybe Arnie or Chuck Norris (who doesn't need weapons anyway) who could stand and fire a machine gun accurately.

Read my earlier post in this thread about using bullet drop (the one with the picture of the crosshair) and keep practicing. I've been playing online shooters for years and i've always been a sniper, I've only just started getting scores worth bragging about with the sniper kit, my KDR is slowly increasing as is my accuracy and I rarely miss a shot nowadays.
Keep practicing and good luck.

I managed to get the veteran repair badge legitimately but I know a few people that gave up trying and padded it. Don't give up just yet, try playing on servers with 20 or so people on size 64 maps, maps with bombers (F15, SU-30, SU-34) are the best ones to try on because its very easy to take out commander assets with the 5 bombs. Play as commander, stick with your assets and keep repairing them and you shouldn't have a problem getting the 10 repair points.
Feel sorry for those who are pulling their hair out trying to get 25 repair points - damn near impossible in my eyes.

Just outside.............. Hull
BUT not in Hull.

Yep thats the one, gotta love it when the buggers try to jump out as the BH is about to hit the dirt and they get killed just as easily :-p
'Blackhawk down, we got a Blackhawk down'
P.S. EvilMonkey I see you are from Leeds, good to meet a fellow Yorkshire sniper

Not sure if it has the most but i'd certainly say it has the same amount as the M95 which is considerably more than the M24.
Before the 1.2 patch I was able to kill chopper pilots quite easily, now it's almost too easy. The gunners in the side seats are also very easy to kill. I once got a kill streak of 27 as a sniper (which i've only recently beaten while being in a tank), mostly from shooting the guys in a blackhawk that was hovering over the power plant in Mashtuur, managed to bag myself 3 blackhawks and various passengers during that one round and I was commander as well
The guys in the boats are certainly some of the most satisfying kills, you can see very little of the driver as he speeds along so it not only takes good skill to lead the target but also to get the Bullet Drop perfect to hit that tiny piece of head.
It would be nice to have Mil-dots or something similar on the in game scopes which we can use to accurately place shots at range, unfortunately it just takes a hell of a lot of practice to be able to confidently take any shot at any range and get clean kills.

Ok heres a screenshot of the L96 scope that i've edited to show you rough guides to where to aim -
The first marking out from the centre should be where you aim for targets 120m - 200m or so, the next one out is 200 - 300 and the final one 300+
To help illustrate my point further heres a map of Sharqi Peninsula (my favourite sniping map), Within the circle that i have marked you should be able to kill anyone from the roof of the TV station with a headshot using the first marking out on the scope above. The same applies if you are shooting people on top of the TV station within this sort of distance.
I certainly wouldn't recommend sniping from the roof though, theres absolutely no cover and you silhouette yourself against the skyline. Fortunately i have got hundreds of kills from people who don't follow this advice and they usually keep trying to find me until the round ends.
As i said its very rough and i'm going to try to make some videos with FRAPS to accompany the sniper guide I am working on (should be finished in a week or so but i'm doing 23 days in a row at work so i'm pretty busy). I'm hoping that I can get maybe 5 or 6 videos of me making shots at various distances and from various favourite sniper spots. I'm hoping these will go a long way towards helping my guide be the final word on sniping

I'd say a long shot is anything that requires the use of bullet drop, with the M95 this is probably anything beyond 100m or so, with the M24 its anything beyond 150m. Usually its not the long shots that are difficult for me anymore, i've learned to compensate for BD and the difficult ones are the ones at 100+ metres where i can only see a tiny part of someone like a foot sticking through a wall (thanks to DICE to this wonderful, sniper friendly bug)
One of my friends insists that he has no use for bolt action snipers anymore because a PKM or SVD can rock all over them, I told him that the PKM and SVD can't match the bolt actions for precision and he doesn't believe me. He also doesn't believe in Bullet Drop, he says its only required with the M95 and thats only at distances of 300m or more. Opinions anyone?

Any map with a bomber jet is easy too, so long as you can fly. just make sure you dont have a co-pilot, else he'll get half the kills.
Anyone half decent at the game can get the kill requirements for any kit without whoring vehicles, people who earn them like this don't deserve them and will hopefully contract gonorrhea for their sins.
Sniper is a piece of piss - check my earlier post.Elamdri wrote:
It may be kinda hard for sniper, but thats why God..er... I mean DICE gave us tanks.
I spent this entire round as a sniper and got my gold badges - 51 kills and I only needed 38. This is the first expert combat badge i have been able to get and it was piss easy.
I would imagine that it would be very easy to get 50 kills or more on a good round of Warlord with any of the kits, and thats without using any vehicles.
Is this guy trying to sell us a FAMAS or something? Sounds like a sales rep.Tagmaestro wrote:
The FAMAS is my favorite. It's highly accurate due to its long barrel and delayed blowback feature.
It totes one of the highest RPM of all assault rifles, and it is quite modular.
