I don't know if it's related, but my game has crashed twice now since the patch without me doing anything different.

I got my vet. repair fairly. I was on a 32-player server playing Karkand, and a whole squad of guys was constantly trying to blow up my team's (USA) commander assets. Needless to say, I killed them, repaired the commander toys, and waited for them to come back.
The problem is with lying down and trying to revive someone is that it is slower. If you want to quickly dash out there, revive the guy, and dash back (like I normally do), going prone takes time. However, you have to have good accuracy with the paddles.
How much information?
I'm pretty sure you need to install the game, and then install the patch.
Karkand can be a really fun map, if played correctly. Often, half the MEC team will stick to the Hotel for the entire round, while the rest of the team is spread out, trying to hold the other points - losing them one by one. The suburbs is almost always the first point to be taken, because it is rarely heavily defended. Same deal with the Gatehouse.
I only ever play the 32-size map; I find the 64-size map just isn't as fun. People are spread out more.

I love jets myself; I had a 104-point round just using the SU-34 on Oman not too long ago. No joystick for me, either.
As for the "becoming what you hate", I've only recently discovered that I'm much more of a vehicle whore than I'd like to believe. However, I'm currently working on my small-arms K/D ratios. I'll be much happier if and when I have a positive ratio for carbines.

The defib whore sounds the best.
I have a knife-kill only account myself: http://bf2s.com/player/59986309/ Haven't played on it much, though.

I play for fun. However, badges, points, and rankings give me a feeling of accomplishment.
In my experience, you need at least 1 Gb of RAM (which I have) to play BF2 with any amount of ease.
I think he was commander while others were stat padding. He'd get a 2x bonus in points if his team won as well.
Yes, they lowered the requirements. You should be a Gunnery Sergeant once you patch it, and as soon as you reach 20,000 points, you'll become a Master Sergeant. Unfortunately, you don't have all the badges required to become a First Sergeant. Only difference is the rank name and image, however.
In my experience, the best unlock in comparison to the original is the DAO-12. Definitely worth it. The G36C is as you put so well, "awesome". Yes, the lack of a red-dot scope is a drawback, but one easily overcome. As for assault, I guess it depends whether you like the grenade launcher or not.
Looking at your stats though (assuming schizferatu is your nick), you need to download the latest patch. You will rank up SEVERAL times, allowing you to choose multiple unlocks.

I love knives. I've gone entire rounds just using it, even after getting my badges. The key is timing, and not going after a guy with a shotgun. =/
My tip for you is to just practice your timing, and try and take them by surprise. Also, always go on Karkand with a size-32 map and 32 players.

The next award I'm going to try to get is my Vet Explosives. Car bombing worked for me (on Kubra Dam) to get my basic, but I think I'm going to try the Karkand method for my Vet.
I think that jet missiles need to have their targeting systems tweaked. If I target an enemy jet, most likely he will start going around and around in circles. Firing a missile while going in circles has about a 1 in 100 chance of hitting. Most of the time, the missiles swerve off. If jet missiles were able to hit more easily, then it would solve a lot of these "jet whoring" problems.
I'm a "bomber whore" myself, but find that it becomes stupid if a jet is chasing me in circles, getting nowhere. I would rather die right away, respawn, get back into the air, and find him before he finds me.

That happened to me once. This guy killed me twice, so I asked what's up. Red name glitch. So, I tell him to stop shotting me and tell him where I'm coming from. The guy, obviously an idiot, keeps killing me. I find the best solution for the Red Name glitch is to simply leave, annoying as it may be.
Well, if BF2 had blood and gore, it would probably be rated M, meaning fewer sales from the young teenager demographic.
I'd also appreciate it if you put my friend on as well.

I was bombing whenever I wasn't being chased by a jet or targeted by a stinger.
Newbies, I can understand, but I've come across skilled, high-ranking players who just "noob tube" for the entire game (mostly just in Karkand). It just makes me mad that they can't have just a little more fun at the expense of a few points. =/
I was playing on the {Kamikaze} Ranked Server on Gulf of Oman earlier today, and decided to go in a bomber for a little while, and was, well, bombing people. Now, all the people on the opposite team are located in their control points. So, that's where I was bombing. Nothing unfair with that, right? I mean, stingers have been bringing me down no problem. But no.
The Admin, who just happened to be on the other team, kicks me. The reason? Base raping. That is the biggest load I have ever seen. Even if you might think that's base raping, I guess you'd have to ignore the chopper whores, totally raping our CPs, on the same team as the admin.
What do you think? Is CP-bombing unfair?

Spotting is always important. I do it all the time before I shoot, unless there's a very strong chance that I'll kill the guy. If I'm a sniper and in a good position, say, the crane in Sharqi, I'll constantly spot.
There seems to be a max distance for spotting, though; sometimes when I try to spot halfway across the map, even though I'm zoomed in with the sniper and can easily see the guy, it just says "Enemy forces spotted."
Spotting is very useful if I'm in a dogfight with another jet, so I can see where said jet is. Same with attack-heli fights.

I like the new map; it has a good layout to it, and flags can easily change hands (at least in the servers I was playing in...). It feels a little gimmicky almost, compared to the other BF2 maps, but it's just generally a good map. No shortage of action.
I personally liked when ranks were few and far between.
a) It gives you a greater feeling of accomplishment when ranking up.
b) It's easier to tell who the better players are.
c) Getting unlocks faster is nice, but now anyone can grab a DAO-12... I felt special using that gun.

Personally, I don't think there should be different indicators for infantry. Tanks, and APCs should have different indicators, maybe. What I would really like are different targeting indicators for aircraft, 'cause I avoid AA differently than I do jets...
Meh, I'm a good pilot, but don't use a joystick.
Not saying it isn't a good idea, though.

A guy did that to me. I asked him what he was doing but refused to respond. He didn't go back to pick up anyone, though.
My nickname is a combination of leet speek (which I find funny) and my lame attempt at creativity.
The saddest knife kills are when the person is running in the opposite direction as you, you start chasing them from behind, and when you're one foot away from stabbing them, you run out of sprint. Then they turn around for one reason or another and shoot you in the face. Happened a few times; it frustrates the hell outta me.
I have an XPS Gen 3 too... not quite as good as yours, though. I run everything on default (medium), even though I could run it higher. Meh, graphics aren't everything.
