My Dead Horse Was Named "Unlock"

I know this is a well-beaten horse, I just spent an hour reading everything the search turned up on, "Unlocks".
I am wondering what to take for my second unlock at Corporal.

It seems that I hear 2major opinions:

1) Get the unlock for the class you play the most.
I play AT, Spec Ops, and Assault most. I also enjoy sniping - my 1st (and only) unlock has been the M95. It isn't near as accurate as the defaults but it really is possible and loads of fun to shoot through chopper glass and into some pilot, watching him crash and burn.
I play engy sometimes when I am commander so I can keep things fixed. I play medic during street battles that are getting messy. I also enjoy Support when I want revenge and know I will respawn before the flag is capped.

2) All the weapons have advantages ( as well as downsides too). One guy [kilroy0097] said it best:

Unlock weapons are to be looked at as an alternative subclass for that class. Think of it as Class Mark II. It does not make your class better. It will make that class perform a slightly different role. Assault with G3 becomes a Rifleman. Anti-Tank with DAO-12 becomes close combat killer but can no longer offer medium range fire support. Medic with L85A1 becomes a medium range sniper and has that auto capability for close range. USMC Engineer can actually maybe survive a fire fight at close range with the MK3A1. Support is more deadly if skilled in close combat support with PKM but can not really offer massive supression fire like before. Sniper well.. is still just a sniper. No real role change unless you call anti-helicopter (if you are damn good) a role change. The G36C for Special Ops also doesn't really change their role all that much though you have to learn to use iron sights for sniping. I feel it is still one of the best Unlocks.

Public Service Annoucement: The Unlock Weapons DO NOT make your class significantly better. The Unlock Weapons enhances your class and gives you ability to slightly diversify as Class Mark II.

I imagine I will go with the DAO-12 it seems to make my AT a very well-rounded guy. I have actually tried it before and I hated the recoil but, I figure I will just start firing lower and get used to it.

The G36c sounds awesome too but, I love the red dot scope on the M4 and AK 74U.

My only other idea is maybe the PKM for all out power but, I doubt it.

this has already been well covered in countless threads. It's a matter of personal choice. Everyone of us plays BF2 differently.

It all depends on how you define your role in BF2. The advice "take the unlock for the class you play most" is generally the best you will hear, I guess. You don't want to unlock a weapon for a kit you are never going to play anyway, do you ?

second advice: join a server with global unlocks and play a few rounds. check our the different options. this will help you to find the best unlock.

As clear as I made my realization to this, even in the post's title - I knew online gamers, being as anal as most of them are, just wouldn't be able to resist pointing it out again :-P

I always make it a point to get the unlock for a combat badge i dont have yet. that way it will be easier to get that badge when i get around to it.

In my experience, the best unlock in comparison to the original is the DAO-12. Definitely worth it. The G36C is as you put so well, "awesome". Yes, the lack of a red-dot scope is a drawback, but one easily overcome. As for assault, I guess it depends whether you like the grenade launcher or not.

Looking at your stats though (assuming schizferatu is your nick), you need to download the latest patch. You will rank up SEVERAL times, allowing you to choose multiple unlocks.

If you spend an hour reading, you surely must have noticed a few things:

1) There is no such thing as the ultra must have top of the best unlock. They are all equally useful, and are surely not better over the whole line than any vanilla gun. It all depends on which kit you play the most. That should have been written whole over the place, anything else is almost surely personal preference, and thus will not help you much.

2) In al those posts you must have noticed that "anal gamers" prefer you keep your question relevant to an existing thread IN that existing thread. It does not matter how obvious your title is, moreover it is stating that you know it has been mentioned ad nausea, and prefer to ignore it and add your little bit.

3) Implying that a mod, whom happened to even take the time and give you an answer in stead of just closing the thread, is some "anal gamer" is a rather unwise thing to say.

May I suggest that next time that you've spend an hour reading, you actually try understand the message.

Yes, they lowered the requirements. You should be a Gunnery Sergeant once you patch it, and as soon as you reach 20,000 points, you'll become a Master Sergeant. Unfortunately, you don't have all the badges required to become a First Sergeant. Only difference is the rank name and image, however.

What people need to remember is that unlocks arn't nessisarily a better weapon they are an alternative,(okay maybe except the FN2000 or whatever. I had a run in with that beast today, GL, Flashbangs and all, although it might be just because the kit is good...)
