My favorite is what happened to me on Saturday. I had the pilots seat and saw that there was the enemy attack helo molesting our spawn island ( Wake ). I close some distance and level out keeping it steady a moment..wait...wait...wait...then the cannon starts firing. Over ... and over. I manage to type "Missle!" and one fires off in a straight line off to the right. No one seemed to be able to use the TV at all. Very crucial on that Wake map to clear the armor for ground troops. *sigh*

I didn't notice any detriment to gameplay with the 1.3 patch. The server list however is extremely frustrating. Seems like for the most part the people complaining about the squad changes were the ones that were benifiting from abusing the system. Put up or shut up none of us were at the meeting were this change was agreed upon and no amount of hand wringing will change it back.
While that statement relfects your namesake I think it's pretty far from the truth. I'm sure there are some pretty sharp minds playing games that are affected postitively by games ( i.e. making split second decisions out manuevering your opponent and recognizing behavior patterns ).TheEternalPessimist wrote:
No offense but it'd take a very weak mind to be affected by a simple game.
EDIT: Typo
In the many years I've played FPSs sometimes I get that adrenal rush or extreme sense of urgency that I need to not be where Im standing like 5 seconds ago.
I had problems with my Saitek gamepad ( before I could find an adapter for my MS Sidewinder ), but that's neither here nor there. With the Saitek it told me that an unmapped motion was already mapped when clearly I hadn't yet. I switched up the order in which I inputed the commands and it worked eventually. I usually clear out all the commands then start from the top and work my way down. That for some reason caused a conflict somewhere along the line.
Cant you start an offline profile then edit within that profile in Explorer to avoid the conflict? Thought I read something like that in a PC Gamer article. Will have to see if it didn't get thrown out.
I played one round of SF so far and I was thrilled to have the RPG-7 show up. Having hours and hours of DC under my belt the RPG was like reuniting with an old friend. I'd love the RPG-7 on Wake...
For the most part the range of messages that you can send remain the same when you enter a vehicle. Some of the messages that you can send out don't seem as benefical to the driver / passenger / gunner. I try to be an accomodating driver of transport and tank when possible scanning for infantry, then halting to allow a cleaner shot for my gunner. Conversely when armor shows up I duck down a hill or find better cover ( never did get the whole gotta drive on the roads bit ).
When in armor / transport those riding should have a new set of messages to better keep the vehicle at max usage, thereby helping the team out more. I suggest: Halt, Open Fire, Evasive Action being swapped out of rose for less necessary choices. Additonally the when the driver spots infantry a directional aid message should be heard - "Sniper 1 o'clock!". I've stopped in the middle of the road with a Spec Ops guy dead ahead spotting him and honking my horn, but nothing from my gunner. Transport drivers might benefit from a small transparent dot to help target "spots". Eyeballing it works well enough for some but a dot might again help promote spotting of targets when they present themselves.
Helos - "Bandit on our six" is much missed from the days of DC.
On an aside when coming out of TV view, anyone found a way to keep that pesky cockpit off? I've tried binding it to the 3rd "Back" button on my G5 but it just wont take. Although it will toggle my fire rate on infantry weaps. Even binding the cockpit view to right or left mouse wheel tilt wont toggle the cockpit on/off.

Did a DUB person say anything to you, if so which one? Or was it a jealous collective kick vote...sometimes players like to try to get the top scorers booted by voting
How odd, I posted in here yesterday, then later last night I ran into some blatant TKing. Wake Island right, I make my way to the gunner seat on the cobra with the sound of footsteps behind me. In front of me is a spec ops guy holding a remote and the red warning indicator. Since it's the start of the round and the first strike can influence the rest of the map I op to lay him out with the cannon. He comes back from across the deck C4 at the ready and the pilot is not lifting off. No one is saying hop out, hey can me and my buddy have it, nada. He plants ducks out of sight and of course....both dead. I even forgive the TK ( on accident ;-> )
I mess with him for a minute or two plinking away with my pistol as he's ducking behind another waiting player for cover. BH pops so I just hitch a ride and move on. Commander was later trying to motivate us in the chat window and I tossed out a backhanded comment about that guy. He actually said sorry but Im not sure if it was supposed to be sarcastic. Either way he didn't have much ground to stand on being I was 2nd on our team to my squad leader. TK meister hadn't broken 10 points at that point. I mean if you are going to TK for a vehicle at least kick some serious ass when you manage to get it.
Theres a thought. If someone scores Team Vehicle Damage and a Teamkill, pilots a vehicle and doesn't score X amount of points before dying.... Instant kick or ban depending on server setting.

I make sure to say in Team chat the persons name and what they did so others at least have the heads up. After that I just keep doin my thing without worrying about them too much. I dont help the team any if Im busy with some jackass. There sadly isn't any way to overcome and beat griefers. They always end up winning.
I play there pretty frequently and yes this is a major problem. For some reason the auto-balance and team swap after a round ending were removed. Admins are usually on in the afternoon ( PST ).
I have had this same problem....I have the 1.2 patch on my HD along with the previous ones. I'll give 1.2 full a run again and see if it repairs it.
Yeah that should do ya there SIRNUCKLES play a round of SF and you'll get the unlocks. It will take sometime for BFHQ to catch up but when I did this I ended up with (6) unlocks.
NOW
Sir, are you finding that servers that you used to play before SF don't let you in now due to a "unmoddified" message after loading a map? And by servers used to play I mean in BF2 not SF. Miss my favorite Wake servers.

Lets see I tried installing SF once before the newest patch came out got frustrated and just wanted to play BF2 so ended up uninstalling everything. Since then I've played BF2 with the newest patch, installed SF then ended up running the patch again to get back up to speed.imdead wrote:
Did you install SF BEFORE patching??
After searching for a bit I'll post in here since there may be some disgruntled players that have ran into this.
So I install SF and afterwards 2 servers in my favorites..highlighted green...load up til it's time to join then I get the "Server only allows unmodded content". After installing SF I made sure to run my patches and I can play on one of my favorites it's a 24/7 Karkand, but the Wake Island ones no go. Anyone found a solution to this or is it ditch SF and reinstall BF2 to get back to what the servers perceive as normal unmodded content?

Wow what a dick! I'm glad that Marky-poo here had the insight into all our thoughts to lambast Josh, since apparently no one wants to hear any of his ideas. Christ Mark is your grasp of the English language so poor that you can't ascertain what someone is trying to say with marginal English abilities. If something isn't wrapped up in a purdy wittle package with a bow you're going to condem a person from ever touching a computer. He just offered a solution to a problem that some people may perceive as valuable. While "you're" at it keep it zipped up and never touch a woman again, I'd hate to think your seed could one day have to deal with your tolerance.Markimus wrote:

Im not even going to attempt going thru 14 pages of rant. The OP only posed a question to us, that may or may not be his/her opinon.
I would have to say that anyone that thinks that statement is true is severely out of touch with the times. Most of the game makers are around my age ( 29 ) well over 19. A lot of us playing today are the kids that played these games with sticks and plastic toys in our backyards back in the early 80s. Finally our imaginations manifest into something somewhat tangilble. Although playing Army & Swordsman I didn't imagine TKers and griefers.

I've done this twice now...once on Karkand and on Wake. Both times it has helped me help the team by singlehandedly defending a flag.
On wake I had spawned at the North Village where a tank also spawns for your team. None of us had taken it so I decided to aquire it. Too late a yankee pig dog stole it. He has seen me running around so he knows Im here. I've made my way behind a longhouse on the north side with the flag and him on the other. Quick goat thinking, I pull out a frag grenade and toss it towards his right rear. At the edge of the building I ready my C4 and wait while battery acid pumps through my veins. *BOOM* the frag goes off and Im sprinting around the corner. I'm greeted by the rear of his turret as he's trying to find me, plant two charges and head back to my starting point. *Caaaaalick* "You Defended Flag", and the Lord did grin.
Pulled the same stunt on Karkand at the Gatehouse. Behind the 1st building nearest bridge side. Tank there trying to solo cap. Tossed a frag towards the UAV shack then ran out and planted.

Maps that have the "push" format. The name escapes me but DC had a map like that where you had to take the points in order. Of course maybe this time we won't die from standing too close to the flag. ( edit Medina Ridge there it is )
On a cue from DoD, MGs can be fired any time with less than desireable accuracy, OR you have to deploy the bipod / set up on a ledge, window, etc. with much much better results. Keep people from diving with a large MG and attaining laser bolt accuracy. MGs should be sent back to the support bin where they belong.
Moveable PCs after they are down and wounded. Sometimes I just need to be moved 4 feet back behind some cover to avoid getting killed 5 seconds later by the guy that just got me and more often than not is still watching my area.
( I was going to go with Helo Physics for #3 but ah...lets not go there right? )

Just because if I could have any pistol and a free supply of ammo for it...god knows it would cost a mint. The P-90s sidekick the Five Seven.

Pilots had it easy for too long. Air power was too overpowering in this game. The counter measures offered didn't do the job so now they pose a greater threat. Good pilots will adapt just like everyone else and overcome this new challenge. If anything this only enriches gameplay for all as the SAM sites become more important targets of opportunity. People will actually want to get in them and use them now. As it stood more often than not you'd see them empty and even fewer kills from them in any given round. So add another task to your Spec Ops list....denial of AA
That sucks man. I was on a 24/7 Wake island game where some guy was planting C4 on the Blackhawk out the gates. Took down 5 of us which, if you play the map, can be the make or break swing for the USMC. Respawn again and he's back at it so I jump on the grenade so to speak and drop him. Of course I get punished why not. Apparently he and his friend purchased an account each to just grief people, bragging they had been banned by 10 servers that night.
Sounds more like an unfortunate consequence of the game as opposed to part of it. A Catch-22 with trying to maintain order without a reliable admin on because even then they fail us. People just seem to suck in general. I'd like see a game element that compiles IDs and based on recomendations from other players grant you commands to help keep order in the games you play.

They dont have to change the game they want to. When you put out a modern military online game and it degrades into people jumping around like B-movie kung fu guys, walking down tight quarters with grenade launchers armed at the ready and generally looking lame...you want to change something.blackcracka wrote:
I think you all will be very dissappointed if/when the patch comes out.
It is TOTAL BS that EA has to change the game we've spent hundreds of hours perfecting our skills on.
Just like the last patch, it is going to be gay, and it will make me be all pissed off and not want to play the game. How would you all feel if they completely changed the vehicles, removed many of the jets from maps.. lowered the number of nades you have... Its totally queer.
Down with the patch. How could you say long live the patch when you have no idea what the f they are going to do.. its probably going to be another ploy to get you to buy another "booster" pack..
B S if you ask me
If you dont want to play the game cause you're all pissed off why would you have 539 hours logged with over 100K points? Hell you were on today! The changes you imply wouldn't happen unless it changes the idea that they created and sold had changed dramatically.
And we do have an idea of what the pack is going do...most patches have notes that give you some heads up as to what is to come.
A lot of people were smart and decided not to exploit the system by relying on gimmicks and tricks to get by. Those are going to be the biggest opponents of this patch.
Sheesh people come on that's not an exploit nor hack....
Its just Death Blossom

I had a front row seat for a Darwin candidate. Wake Island at the N end in the lower level of a tower. Got a few raiders coming in from the village and as I'm reloading an AT guy comes tromping through the foliage. Finish reloading and begin to fire off rounds and never hit the guy once. He comes right at me while I'm inside the tower, jumps and fires his rocket at me....sadly the window was a bit lower. Rocket detonates killing him inches from me.
Thanks for the link. Guess I was wrong on both accounts. Sadly I get more info from a 3rd party than an official site.
*You can NOT throw C4 when jumping. You can jump and throw grenades but you can not throw medic or ammopacks.
*UAV is now a flying airplane that circels the area. All weapons can harm the UAV but most efficient is the Jeep MG that only took about 5 seconds to kill the UAV. The COMM will have to learn to place the UAV right so it cant be fired at to easy. AT probably will be able to kill the UAV with a lot of practising.

Visible doesn't mean you can shoot it down. If you ask why not then you should really think about the post that originally and offically stated the change and not a speculatory post.MrPredictable wrote:

"UAVs are now visible in the world so if you are being scanned, you can know about it and take action against it" - If it was able to be shot down I think they would have stated so outright. If you take the statement at face value the writer is implying that since the opposing team has no indication they are under surveillance, this visual reference will let them know. Then they can take action against it by changing tactics, postition or defending themselves accordingly. Shooting it down is assumed not implied.
Likewise it is assumed that you cannot throw C4 while jumping. Unless it is posted officially in a news section it's pure guesswork by people that are biased. Obviously seeing posts from people that think throwing C4 is bush league they are just expressing distaste. For continuity I'd assume you would be able to throw C4 while jumping, but unless it's from an offical horses mouth I wouldnt post yea or nea nor believe half of the people saying so.
I think the whole point to removing the hopping/diving is because it detracts from what the developer intended the game to be. Naturally with any online game these days people find every possible way to gain an upper hand. No amount of testing will catch these behaviors and tricks. For now you toss it out there and see how it evolves after you have done enough testing to publish a tolerable product. I say tolerable since we've seen the incomplete titles time and time again. The amount of posts about hopping/diving addresses a gameplay issue that detracts from the experience. Leaving the hopping/diving in the game and developing a strategy is a dead end from their point of view. The contemporary shooter has turned into a bad kung fu movie with guns so it has been fixed. Wether or not something new will be the new FOTM is an inevitibility. Wether or not it merits a patch is up to them. I'd imagine they, the devs would want our gameplay to mirror the intro movie. That's a game the majority wants to play. Picture a pre 1.2 intro movie. The guys running towards the flag all hopping around while about 3 different grenades get lobbed in. Another guy takes himself out and an enemy with a grendade coming up the ladder. Meanwhile someone is doing the worm avoiding MG fire.
SOB! I remeber this one from Desert Combat. Basarah's Edge I think it was. Would have thought mappers would have learned from that one and not allowed it to happen in a retail version. Will have to see if I can duplicate it on Karkand to combat the monkeys that use it.
Shop around and if this your first time building a computer get some experienced assistance. Nothing worse than snapping the mobo on installation or damaging the pins on the processor. Plus someone that has put together a system knows the best order to do things in already and might save you some headache and cuts. If you have the means grab a Sound Blaster X-Fi, I just put together a rig for about 1300 USD and that sound is pretty immersive. A great perk if you can afford it. ( btw only really works with BF2 atm )
Also if you want to keep the cost down you really dont need the dualing vid cards unless you are into benchmarking, numbers and making your friends jealous. Check dedicated computer / electronic stores for deals. Here we have Frys Electronics and they sell processors and mobos for great prices. Downside is you have to take their mobo which isn't always ... ever the best but it works well enough.
Routers ... eh I dont think there is much other than what brand you like most. The routers that are for "gaming" are really only beneficial to you if you share the bandwith with someone in your place. Say they are doing like P2P stuff, large downloads and such then your gaming packets will be prioritized and you'll see improvement..otherwise it's not really worth it.
Old issues of Maximum PC and PC Gamer can be helpful. Especially PC Gamer #144 I have here that has a photo tutorial on building a computer.

Shooting while jumping.....if we cant sprint and shoot then why can we jump and shoot w/o penalty to accuracy?
Player models clipping walls while prone, then able to take damage on exposed limbs
A stamina penalty for jumping

Vanilla refers to the original version of a game without mods or expansions. Apparrently Vanilla is normal which is ludicrious because vanilla is anything but. It's vanilla! Wonder why Rocky Road didn't get picked or maybe Chocolate Mint for that matter I hate that flavor.
Currently I am a Gunnery Sgt in BF2. If I were to pick up SF would I be allowed the unlocks I would have earned had I had SF since my early days or would I have to wait another 9K points til the next fire hoop...er promotion?

Sort of the problem with the nature of online game beast. People have a certain mob mentality. Something gets labeled and then aforementioned something carries over into other games. I don't think I have seen bunny hopping like back in the CS days with some yahoo doing 50mph down the ramp on dust. Someone just jumping repeatedly over and over is just that. If anything it makes them easier to hit because they commit themselves to moving in one direction they can't change once they leave the ground.
I think a lot of people would be pleased if there was some sort of physic standard in BF2. People jumping and diving still are able to fire off weapons with success. When sprinting we can't lob grenades, push buttons or drop mines. A 40mm grenade blast within 5-10 ft rarely kills or seems to slow down the person firing. Personally I'd love to see people that fire weapons in the air suffer a huge ACC penalty or fall on their asses. The only times I've really jumped away have been from vehicle fire or mounted weapons. Other than that I choose not to jump around in firefights or abuse the tube. In fact I'm embarassed that I even managed to score one kill with it. Figure I'll worry about shooting straight first and the rest will fall into place.
