Played Karkand and Died....a lot. My streak of deaths still holds at 23. I almost gave up on the game......almost.
Quite a discussion here. I have no idea if this has been shared but this website goes through the whole "shooting" and is quite interesting.

I tried the Beta and Demo and they both were painful but I was giving it the benefit of the doubt. When the BF2 demo came out it was Gulf of Oman (great map but it had its flaws) and I was figuring the same with 2142 but the map is awful, just awful. And now we have this!!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!!! Unbelieveable.
hahahahahahahahahaha:

EA has released the Battlefield 2142 v1.01 patch today. This is a must download for anyone who has purchased the game not using the EA downloader. If you purchased the game through the EA downloader, you do not need this patch as you already have it.
We are all very excited with the release of Battlefield 2142 this week. Like you we are eager to play online and start collecting our Dog Tags. To be more proactive in our patching we are releasing a 1.01 patch to address a performance issue. This is a small patch, but well worth the stability it will give. Battlefield 2142 will notify you at the login screen if there is a newer version of BF2142 out. EA Downloader will then start if you have it installed. We are doing everything possible to ensure the best experience for BF2142's first patch and appreciate your understanding.
This has just put the nail in the coffin for this craptastic game.

Grapic Artist, would love to be a pilot, comercial or a test pilot.
Macs have come a long way and are only getting better. PC's with Vista will be an interesting situation. I am eager to see how its going to look and how its going to work. I am sorry but I have no faith in Windoz! I love my mac for my graphic design work and I love my pc for gameplay. I would love to have one of them fancy new macs and then I can do both on only one machine. Now that would be sweet.
These terrorists are at club med for cryin out loud! They are eating 4 meals a day, in air conditioned rooms, they read their Koran and now and again they are put into a cold room and the chilli peppers are blasted through to get info out of them. They have it easier then almost every person in the US prison system and that includes the guards.
America needs to get back to its old ways (flame me on this one guys). When the red coats came over and the US militia fought the same way they did, it turned into a disaster. Standing in a line and shooting was just too much of a nightmare and they were loosing to a far better trained and armed army. So they came up with new tactics and hid amongest the trees, or behind rocks and ambushed the british army. They created the hit and fade and hit again tactics. Now they are being held to pretty much the same things as the british army held back in the revolutionary war by not adapting. They need to adapt or it will be a much higher death toll for the US. Send in the spec forces, delta squad, rangers, make these guys sweat and rout them out. Either that or just blow the frell outta the Sunni triangle (getting women and children and the elderly out first)
Just my 2 cents.

You should see if the scanner has a transparancy adaptor. If it does then the software that came with it should do the trick or if you have photoshop then you could use that. If it doesnt then see if there is one available for your scanner, too pricey then go to a local photolab and see if they can do it for you.
Good luck mate.

I just saw an ad asking Bush to do something about Darfur! I was a wee bit incensed by it due to the fact that the EU, UN, NAto and almost every other african nation around it have done nothing to help the people in Darfur, but maybe the great Satan can stop its war and help (sarcasm people). I just dont get it. I truly dont. Maybe someone can explain! PLEASE!
I am all for shooting Care bears but this looks too tripped out.

If you changed the name of the BF.exe then you will have to change it back to the original name as the patch wont work, it didnt for me. I got that "modified content" message too and had to reinstall and repatch. It sucked.

I wasnt crazy about it. I wish we could have tried more than one map, maybe that would have changed my mind. I dont think I will be buying it.
Ireland couldnt have had it's freedom without American influence or American money. So why is that a bad thing for Iraq? Ireland is doing fantastically well now with American companies leading the way and spending many dollars on the infrastructure there. Cant they employ that in Iraq?
Not a good thing to say there Cameron, with it being so close to 9/11 and all. Makes ya look like an eejit and a heartless culchie!CameronPoe wrote:

Oh man, who remembers "Monkey"? I loved that show with a passion. That and "The Water Margin".
LOL, I watched almost all of those shows including some great Irish shows....Wanderly Wagon, Zig and Zag. Classic stuff. Anyone remember The Goodies? it was kinda like the kids friendly version on Monty Python. I loved Saturday morning tv. We would wake up watch some cartoons then some serial episodes like Flash Gordon or Rocket man, then some Carry on movie would come on......too funny.
The Goonies was an awesome movie that I just watched again with my kids and they loved it. Chunk is the best. I hope the rumors are true and that they make a sequel. Interesting side note: the leader of Modrors army in Return of the King was based on Sloth in the goonies.....thought that was pretty cool.
I remember this show but I cant remember this episode:

I had some problems last night after installing the full patch: it wouldnt let me start the game. The BF2 screen would come up and then black screen.....flicker....then back to the desktop......arghhhhh! I was frustrated but then I realized that I had renamed my bf2.exe and i was wondering if that was the reason. So i uninstalled everything and the reinstalled everything and got to play on Jalalabad and had a blast. It was a smooth as a babys arse. Couple of times it stuttered but I figure I have to do the PB tweak and that will fix it. I also didnt notice the delay in the prone-stand up, it seemed fine to me. All in all, a good patch (far better than 1.3).

Question: Is this going to kill off SF, AF and that European thing-a-ma-jig? I love SF but couldnt be bothered playing the other 2.
What a great game. This took BF2 to a level that EA wishes it could get. It was so much fun and the maps were huge so I cant wait to try it with a full 64 guys playing. I havent done that yet as I get some serious lag for the first 10 minutes of playing, then it eases up a great bit....1.3 nightmares.
Keep up the great work, POE guys. You have made this game more fun than was thought possible.

I got mine the good ol way....dying A LOT. It was the first medal I got and it sucked. I was killed 23 times in a row on one round......it was my very first time playing BF2 and as you can tell I got owned, BIG time. I havent had a round like that since.....close, but not that close, in the early days. I have gotten a wee bit better and will never get another one (i pray).
If you are new to BF2 stay away from Wake and Oman for your first game as the J10 and choppers will eat you alive. I love those maps now, but I got torn a new one on those maps from the jet jocks when I first started.

Now, if only they can make it ranked and get rid of all the lag, I will be a happy man. The game does rock!

Look I know that Bush can be a tard and the way he has handled things is quite questionable to say the least. I for one can be happy in the fact that Kerry didnt win. This world would be a far more dangerous place if he was in charge. But I know the media in a lot of countries are anti-american and thats their right to be but this place is amazing and I have lived here 15 years and will always love this place. Yes there are dipshits that travel and make an ass of themselves.....in Ireland you could always tell they were americans with the Kelly green jacket and the Orange pants and white hat...lol. But America is my home now and I will fight for it as my Children are american and wobetide the boy who wants to mess with them.
Whats with all the bashing of America? Every day there is a "Do you hate America.....vote now" kind of vote. WTFrell?

On August 16, 2005, at 0700 hours eastern daylight savings time, a call that changed the life of every member of the Stokely family came to our home in Sharpsburg GA - "Mr. Stokely, this is Major Hulsey; I am here with Chaplain Dicoppo and we need to speak with you urgently but your dog will not let us to the door." I knew the moment I hung the phone up and ran at a fast gait to the door and down the steps, meeting them in the driveway that they were at my home to tell me my "boy" was dead. It was a long day that day, and it has been a long year to say the least. But, today, as I write this email, I want to share with you a special photo of then Spc. Mike Stokely (promoted to SGT posthumously). The photo most often used is of Mike Stokely before he left for Iraq, and is itself a great icon of his persona. But, this photo I now share is so very special, for it is of Mike Stokely, the Iraq War Veteran and shows the essence and spirit of who Mike Stokely was, even as a soldier in war – big generous eyes that said I’ll look after you, and that ever famous friendly smile that said I am your friend.
In this picture, Mike Stokely and his squad had just come upon another squad from another unit whose HumVee had been hit by an IED. A medic from Mike's squad - Autry - is working on the wounded soldier while Mike acts as a fixture and holds the wounded man’s IV bag. If you zoom in, you see the actual sweat beads on Mike Stokely’s nose. Notice the bird flying in the background off his right shoulder and the tank and machine gun set up off his left. In the midst of such circumstances, this American Soldier named Mike Stokely simply did what he could to make life a little better in whatever way he could, even if it was to lay down his own gun, stand prone in the open, and hold a wounded soldier’s IV bag elevated so gravity would keep vital fluids flowing into the wounded soldier. All the while, Mike Stokely, as he always did, took it in stride and smiled. In the weeks before this Mike had seen many opportunities for he and his buddies to be seriously injured or killed. They endured harsh living conditions – primitive at best. Yet, the same smiling confidence you see in the attached photo is the same smiling confidence he had all along in Iraq, even till the moment of 0220 hours on 16 Aug 2005 as Mike stood cover flank for his best friend and another soldier checking out a suspicious site on a road they were clearing for convoy traffic. That site, near a village called Mulla Fayyad just two miles west of FOB Richardson / Yusufiyah where 2 nd Platoon E Troop 108th CAV 48th Brigade GA NATL GUARD was stationed, turned out to be the location of a very powerful IED that seriously wounded two of Mike’s fellow soldiers, and could have easily killed others, and was the cause of Mike’s fatal wounds.
The insurgency succeeded in killing SGT Mike Stokely in the early morning hours of August 16, 2005, but they absolutely failed in their main objective which was to kill the spirit of Mike Stokely and his family and thereby cause us to cry out to bring the troops home and to wither into a false sense of security by isolation. As our family approaches the all important moment of 6:20 p.m. Tuesday, August 15 – which is 2:20 a.m. August 16 in Iraq, we stand more united and more committed to the war on terrorism and bringing a civilized peace for democracy to the people of Iraq. Friends, fellow soldiers and family will gather at the grave of Mike Stokely on GA 81 south of Loganville in Corinth Memorial Gardens, across from Corinth Christian Church at 1820 hours (6:20 p.m.) 15 Aug and we will remember Mike Stokely, SGT US Army – husband, son, brother and friend. We will remember what he stood for – Duty, Honor and Country. We will rejoice in his willingness to give his life for his country and the bible verse that is inscribed on his grave marker – John 15:13 – No Greater Love… I will speak these words – “as our first year of grieving comes to an end, let us always remember the mournful sound of TAPS , but let us now answer the call of Reveille and report for duty – a duty to live life fully and happily as a free people. Let the bugle sound Charge as we honor Mike Stokely by living full and happy lives as possible, for we owe him that much and we can best honor him in so doing that.
Our family is truly blessed to have had Mike Stokely for 23 years. In the year that has gone by since Mike's death, the Stokely family has been on an amazing journey of service as a family who sought to continue supporting the soldier dearest to our hearts after his death in the same manner we supported him as he lived. In return, we have been given an outpouring of support and generosity and seen great honor and tribute paid Mike. We will never forget what has been done for Mike and our family and it must be made known that such outpouring has made us able to endure this hardship of a broken heart. Mike would be embarassed at all the attention, and probably quite put out with me for all that I have written. In his humble, simple view of what he did, he would have said "what's the big deal, so I got killed in Iraq - get over it." He truly would not have seen what he did as a big deal, just as he didn't see it a big deal to stand on a roadway a few days before his own death and hold an IV bag for a wounded soldier. How could a father such as myself possibly deserve such a son? Surely the goodness of God is shown in his kindness by blessing me with the privilege and honor to be Mike Stokely's dad.
I close by saying this - while others debated, Mike Stokely served. While others continue to debate, we, as a family, stand committed to the service Mike Stokely gave his country and the principles of peace and freedom he found just causes worth dying for. Mike Stokely would do it all over again even knowing the eventual outcome of his own death. Mike Stokely wasn’t a SGT York, or Audie Murhpy. He was just a kid next door who wanted to do his duty, and was willing to die for his country He was loved by his family, friends, and fellow soldiers. He has been sorely missed by all of us. WE will never forget his name, his service, and certainly we will never forget his eyes and smile.
GOD BLESS the United States

What about Crysis? I am looking forward to that one more than Quake Wars or 2142.
Bertie is an arse and always will be. That fucker used to come to my parents home, whilest canvasing to get into the Dail, and eat my feckin dinner(we didnt have a lot back then). The thing is the asylum seekers are getting kicked out after the asylum application process ends. No tear-jerking stories have permitted any illegal immigrant to stay here - a great achievement for politicians who are always asked to pander to the 'Deportation is Racism' brigade. We changed our constitution to make it even more difficult to get Irish citizenship (the 'must have one Irish parent' rule). The benefits the illegals get are far from luxury - it's barely enough to get by on, and when their application is eventually turned down: they're on a chartered plane to wherever they came from asap.captain_itchy_pants wrote:

Poor Paddy who has worked every day for 30 years gets nothing and if he says anything hes called a racist?!?!?!
Bertie is getting a huge kick back from the EU and Irelands sons and daughters are paying the price.
We have 100s of thousands of legal immigrants coming here right now from Eastern Europe and that is driving our economic growth by sustaining our ability to cater for demand for products and services. Ireland has long had a tradition of emigrating to go and work hard and make a living - the trend has now reversed completely and we now have an opportunity to reward others who wish to do the same as our ancestors. I won't begrudge one Pole or Lithuanian - fellow EU citizens - coming here to make a living.
Personally I think Bertie is improving in his manner of dealing with immigration, after a shaky start.
I dont begrudge any person the right to live where they are as long as they have done it legally. My parents and brothers and sister still live in Dublin and they see the state that illegal immigrants are turning Dublin into. Yes they are making changes but they arent coming soon enough. I am glad there are hard workers that want to make a difference in Irelands future but there are some who cant give a shite about it. Irelands crime rate has jumped and I hear of drive by shootings, and the huge drug problem brought in by the asylum seekers. More people under the age of 25 are being treated for drug problems in Ireland than in any other country in the EU.
Lets fix the border first then see. We are already helping them by hiring illegals and them sending money to their families. I have nothing against Mexicans or any immigrant...I am one myself. But Mexico has programs on how to get into America that is funded by the mexican government. The money that is sent back is so helpful to a corrupt government that they are helping them get over the border. Fix that first then America should HELP them.

I am an Irishman living in the States and I love it here. I have been back several time to the awl sod but each time it gets harder to go back. Dublin (my home town) has turned into a shit hole (not that it wasnt when I left 14 years ago). My wife and children are American and my family and their friends love them and never a bad word or a negative action is put towards them (they know I will rip them limb from limb if they ever thought so)
Poe, I wonder why there is always a negativity towards the US in most of your posts? You live on the west coast....galway? Sligo? I know a lot of American companies on that side of the Isle. America has been the leading financeer in a lot of businesses in Ireland and has made it one of the fastest and porfitable countries in europe or the world for that matter. I just wanna know why the hate, dislike, general displeasure with the good ol' US of A?

Ireland is going to shit right now with the Drug Lords and the Immigrants killing each other. Its not only them, last night I call my Mum to see how she was and she told me that one of her 15 year old neighbors was slashed in the neck and "cut to shreds" by a 16 year old at a chippe. WTF? Dublin has changed a lot and I am so glad I dont live there anymore. I guess crime increase with Irelands continued prosperity. Back in the day you could beat the livin shit outta each other and then have a pint of the dark stuff and be done with in. Now days you dont say shit or someone will pulll a gun and kill you. Fecking cowards.
