On Daqing I was flying in the F-18, I saw a smoke train and it was the enemy SU-30 chasing our F-15 and the J10 was taking off at the runway. I got on the 30s tail and start firing my machine gun at him. I notice the fire coming from the back and I disengage to go after the J-10, who was literally 40 feet away making the same banked turn and everything. I get tone and fire 2 quick missles. Both aircraft blew up at the exact same time.

I've had this happen too. I think the games just confused on how to light it on medium settings. Almost like they screwed up the level of detail for medium settings on the tv station.
I'm sure if you are on the losing team and are getting raped pretty badly you think its wrong.
Your on the winning team its the best part of the game.
A line has to be drawn somewhere in order to give the game fairness and balance. On Oman if I'm on America and we take all the flags, I honestly just fly around patrol over the takable flags. I really dont like to fly over the enemy airfield all that much.
Whoever made the artillary and the spawn for aircraft on Oman the exact same lenght of time is a complete idiot...

IMO, a sniper can be one of the better classes for squad leader. You have an overwatch position of a CP so your squadmates have a short run to get there. There are good snipers out there. Their usually the ones who are at the not-so-obvious snipers nests.
MMm wish the Su-39 (doesn't look any different than a f*ng 25) utilized guided missles... Never like rocket pods all that much. It does seem like these are gonna be the El Alamine style maps with plenty of air but more tanks.
Korea wouldv'e been fun becuase its a mix of WW2 and Vietnam.
Honestly I wish 2142 was its own origional game sans the Battlefield name brand and then make us want a new BF game. Then make a BF MMOFPS that was set in modern times featuring multiple countries you can play as in a single theatre of war. Or base it off of all of our smaller wars Panama, Kosovo, Iraq, Afganistan. But they opted against that becuase Iraq is too much a hot topic issue.

I think Alienware will become a little more mainstream now though. Plus they have the marketing machine behind them known as Dell.
Will the XPS be replaced by Alienware...I wonder.

Wow, um, I want Euro Forces now.
This game doesn't need to have Battlefield attached to it. It could easily be its own game without help from BF name-brand.
At least Quake Wars is based off of an already established idea of Humans vs Strogg (Q2 and Q4) whereas BF2142 really does seem like the generic sci-fi of people destroyed the earth.
I the PCG article it stated that the game will have a new menu for finding games and friends to play with AND Co-OP.

Why?
Why can't the game be developed with Battlefield gameplay in mind but not have its name. BF has been about historical wars and with BF2 a war that isn't all that far fetched. Its not Battlefield if theres giant mechs roaming around killing people. Its Terminator/MechWarrior/Enemy Terrertory/ Aliens/ most every si-fi action game EXCEPT Battlefield.

Mash usually has one to many snipers. Mash has more tactics to it then just driving that APC around the mountain. So I honestly prefer it more.
What use will the recon copter have aside from spamming "Enemy Boat Spotted"

The missles are much better at TKing than they were before. Its an unwritten rule to not fire missles on Wake becuase you are sure to hit a friendly with them. I dont know whats up with them. I killed by wingman becuase I was shooting a F-15 who was on his six with missles. I fired off one missle. Went under the F-15 passed by him it climbed to follow the Su-30 and bam hit him and I got TK x2.
Maybe they will get it right some day.

I don't mind getting killed by C4 alone. Its when the guy placing it purposfully goes down with it and kills himself when they could easily run away.
H. If you TK someone apologize for it. Typing it out is alot better than using the Q commo and saying sorry.
Air to Air combat is alot different now. Im not sure if I like it or not. The new a2a is alot better from the perspective of say being spawn raped on Gulf of Oman. yes it still happens quite a lot and its pretty freaking retarded. Seriously, just move the AA 40 feet in any direction so you just can't line up AA, Su-34, Mig-29 in one run. But yeah. Was getting base rapped. I got off the ground by some crazy act of God in the Su-34. I then proceeded to hunt and kill the enemy jets. I succeeded quite well. You can still tell the skill of another pilot when dogfighting. These guys were pretty average pilots and didn't put up much of a fight.
Right now its moreless getting lucky to get behind the guy by you see him and he doesn't see you sort of thing. Once that is occurs victory is at hand.

1. Steal the training missions from Joint Operations and make them BF2-i-fied. Gives people to practice in a more controlled enviorment and if made correctly. People might learn a thing or two.
2. Spawn invulnerability for a few seconds or until you fire your weapon which ever one comes first. Something needs to change so you don't spawn in front of a bullet or at the center of artillary.
3. More DC insired maps.

The game does look good and inventive. Always leave it to Will Wright to come up with something totally addictive and fresh.

6 people squads waste units. Squads of 4, spread out more, are much more effective for the entire team.
In a 32 player server you have 16 people on your team. Minus 1 for commander you got 15 people. Thats 2 squads of 6 and 1 squad of 3. Or thats 3 squads of 4 and 1 squad of 3. You can cover more CPs with more squads.
Medic, Support, Spec, and Engy/medic/at can take care of pretty much anything. You just ahve to use smart tactics when against tanks.
The problem is this game isn't as Black and white as we all want it to be tactically speaking. The tank if you have it can easily be killed by literally anything. Sticking together is morelss asking the enemy commander to place a arty on you. Smaller teams do help in this respect.
I like the fact that AA is accurate now. But the programming of it is major screwy.
People think the Su-34 is sexy? Thing looks like a pladipus (sp?)
I like the Su 27 best though

I had an experiance like that. Wasn't really the last person alive but I was lonewolfing and no friendlys were nearby.
Karkand pre 1.2 patch. I was on the MEC Most the round I was getting irritated by people and their grenade launchers. I had spent most my time as a special forces guy, but that wasn't panning out so I switched to assault. The suburb was just taken so I was heading that way from the south. I see a squad full of baddies in the area. It was the same group that has been killing me from the get-go. They were heading out on foot toward the train wreck down the road. My commander thoughtfully placed a UAV over the area. I was gaining on them. I noticed two dots stop and start heading toward me, but it was too late. Armed with my trusty AK-101 I turned the corner and the two were running my way. I jumped and fired a nade at their feet to put them at the recieving end of my retribution. They both die. The others become aware of my precesnce. The first one I see I fire a short burst and take em down. The medics frantically running toward his fallen comrades a squeeze of the trigger takes him down. I pop two more guys who were a little farther away. I begin to reload my Ak, but an engineer comes out of nowhere, I pull out my pistol and eventually kill him. I was heavily wounded. So I grabbed the medics kit and self-mediacated then switched back to my AK.
After this I went and hid behind the Suburb as I reloaded my weapons and recollected myself. The went after me one at a time it seemed like. In the end I had exausted my AK and the Gl completely of rounds and I was rather low on pistol rounds. I eventually died, but not before I went on a 11 + kill streak by myself on Karkand.

Good guide. One suggestiong though.
Since many of the maps are small enough that you can literally run in, drop bombs and disappear in a matter of seconds use this to your advantage. AA is good but the farther away you are the less accurate they are. Heck if you catch it just right you can outrun the missles. (Tested this with a F-15 on Clean Sweep against a Shika) Also always have flares ready before you run in for a target, they are more valuable than ever.

In all seriousness though. They one -uped 1942 by making the squads part of the game. Theres no physical award you get for being in a good squad or working as a team. Sure you might get to see you under the best squad section. Since alot of people play based on points then might as well use that to your advantage and say gives the player more points if they heal a squadmate vs someotherguy on your team.
But the bugs/glitches are more important of a fix. Getting into buildings that arn't meant to be in and fixes of fixes should hold the priority.

People complain about delays because somebody decided to set a date. In this buisness there are almost always a delay of some kind its almost expected.
I do like to think that with each iteration they learn something new. I donno about you but BFV wasn't as much a success as 1942. I never bought the game but I borrowed it for a few weeks and could never really get into the game. Vietnam just isn't meant for gaming. So what did they do, alot of the BF2 gameplay is similar to 1942. Alot of the maps are like it. MEC maps are more insired by 1942 and PLA is more BFV. Theres a healthy mix in there.
There can always be improvements that need to be made, one just wonders how long they support BF2 until they shift to the next one in the line.

I'm torn.
On one hand you have a nice little teamwork that gets use in the "bombers" making a pilot and co-pilot work together to rack up the points. On the other F-15s shouldn't drop bombs. You can't outright remove jets from the game, they were in BF1942 and Nam so it is consistant that the game has them. From playing Joint Operations I know that the game could easily function without jet aircraft. Most of the maps would be fine without jets, just add a transport chopper or two and everything would be fine. Probably would have to add an extra mobil AA but thats fine by me. Only the really large maps can use jets to where they make sense. Zatar, Kubra Dam, Clean Sweep, and Fushi pass are all that come to mind where jets would be really valuable to have. Make them like the B17 from 1942, it was in only a handful of maps and people were sure to use it.
So how does the current model operate without being considered CAS. I donno about you, but when I'm flying I fly a CAS style. I look for targets of opportunity and I take out that tank that might be threatening the CP. So what would an A-10 or Su-25 do differently than what I do now in my Mig-29?
The answer. TRUE sorties. Make it required to land to resupply. Get rid of this stalling at 300 crap. But at least make it a challange to land so less people want to fly. Whatever happened to a Spec Ops guy pointing a laser and a jet drops the bomb for the kill? I would have LOVED that. And it would just be like the artillary was in 1942. Give the A-10/Su -25 a handful of weapons so while its out there its deadly as hell but has at least a min and a half "rearm time". Think of it like this, the A-10 goes into battle with lets call it 4 laser guided weapons. 4 dumb bombs, 2 cluster bombs and 2 Aim 9 Sidewinders for self defense purposes. Not to mention it has a nice little cannon onboard. The Su-25 would have a rather similar package.
I know its more of a dream than anything else, but if they would have realized you can't have the same style maps as 1942 and just turn it into modern weaponry.

After a while the stress of the game or just sore wirsts get to me.
I think the patch was good in that they improved AA. Its bad in that they improved AA the wrong way. During my play tests I made some pretty impossible shots when air- to -air.
The statement that if in a dog fight and someone gets behind you, "Your dead" is completely true. Someone in my clan was in a J-10 and I in a JSF. He admits he is a total newbie to flying. He shot me down several times ONLY because he got behind me. Now the better performing plane wins the dogfight, not the pilot.
I really need to fraps how the missles launch now. Almost all the time they have no adjustments. The second they are fired they are directly heading for their target. I barely have outrun a few missles. Go into a roll with afterburner and for some reason the missle has hard time keeping up. Probably becuase its trying to figure out the best way to get to you but it can't becuase its always changing.
Odd thing is once you have a lock, its almost for sure that the missle will hit the target, flares or no flares. You literally have to strike a target only when you have flares advailable, they are only you one chance of survival. I did make flares useful against AA turrets and the Shika by afterburner-flares- hard bank turn. Missles still hit me, but some still did miss.
Btw, usmarine2005 your sig is such a joke. If the F-15 pretty much stalled at 300 mph (or whatever units the game is in) then it would be like flying a brick.

Yesterday I decided to test out the new Anti-air and some new tactics to counter them. I got in Single Player Operation Clean Sweep becuase the MEC have a Shilka and its good to practice against. WHile I was flying a lone APC was taking our base on the island. I didn't have any bombs and I noticed the artillary symbol on the base so I figured if I shot it some with my machine gun the artillary might get it. So I go inbound align the target, they artillary was already landing, squeezed the trigger and bomb.

I wasn't the commander, just an ordinary player. I have noticed this before when you fire at say a helicopter with an AK and it gets shot down by Anti Air, but since you hit it you get credit for the kill.
Has anyone else gotten credit for artillary when they shouldn't have?

JO had a good system but my problem with it was the fact that the last base was usually impossible to take. And those no timelimit servers made it become headaches.
On topic now.
It is fully possible that you join a squad and you still don't play as a team. Heck I'm guilty of that from time to time but its usually becuase A. I'm in a jet. B. I see a target of opportunity that I just can't resist and go run off. So giving people would just form squads and still play like they do now but are in a squad. How often do you see squads of 1 person? I see em quite often. I do agree that you should be rewarded for teamwork rather than lone-wolf play. Which makes you wonder what would work.
After some thinking I rationalized that some team points should be given based off of proximity. Gone would be the days of droping a med pack or ammo and someone picks it up a few minutes later then getting the point for it. Say you'd have to be within 20 meters in order to get credit for someone picking up your ammo or meds. If your outside of it, sure they get the meds but you don't get the point for it.
I wonder if giving a player assist points for spotting an enemy and that enemy is killed within a few moments would encourage more teamwork. Honestly I love it when I am told theres a tank on the next street. Or someone spots a apc and Im flying around, I look on the hud for that target.
Another thought, give the players more information before joining a server on if there are alot of team players in it. Heck filtering the servers off of "average player team score" would be a welcome feature.
Lots of good ideas everyone.

3 buttons for my thumb are afterburner, swap weapons, and 2ndary fire
4 buttons at the base are for flares and different views
just get as much as you can on the flight stick so you dont have to worry about using the keyboard
Oh I wish the jets had a CCIP!
Its all about practice man. If you have a joystick just load up SP and map a button so its the rearview look after you drop them see where they landed and keep trying. Use the fighters to learn how to bomb, anyone can hit anything when they are in the "bombers"

Sorry for the confusion I didnt phrase that well.
Its a trade-off by the sheer fact of vulnerability. If he is inside the APC he can't really be harmed by anything but a tank/ AT/ SF/ Engy or aircraft really. While if he's on foot pretty much anything in the world can kill him. He also loses manuverability. Note to mention vehicles show up on the HUD for jets so they have a pretty good idea of where targets are at. APCs can't duck behind a sandbag for some cover and its just a big target. If you can move it out of the way an confuse an AT guy as to where you might be going, good for you, but its a challange. Its just different to being in an APC vs infantry. This whole game is about tradeoffs. Every class has a trade-off, their weapons, what seat to get in when in a vehicle; all of it does matter.

When I was reading about BF2 before it came out, many articles spoke of how a squad commander could be in an APC and everyone could spawn on him. At the time I thought "cool that means that he can stay in there and act as a spawn point and not fight as an ifantry but his squadmates can spawn on him as a tradeoff" Little did I know that my assumption was dead wrong. I know EA/Dice would never remove insquad spawning, but, if an APC or a light transport could be a spawn point if a squad leaders in it. Sure you'd have to add an APC or two to the map but then that would help the overall balance and assure each team has a anti-tank and an engineer.
I wonder how many people would buy a game if they made a ton of gameplay changes and sell it as another game. . .
Depending on what all they fixed, I might.

No, just saying Im not sure they are really even needed in the game. Besides if the aircraft were the A-10 and Su25t they they would be ALOT slower.
Aside from the CONSTANT complaining of various issues people have with BF2, there is somethings that are seriously flawed which many people over look and tend to forget. Many look at a problem in a very black and white sense. AA can't hit anything. So its made almost 100% accurate. Grenade launchers from 3 feet away and people jumping to fire them, removed ability to jump and shoot. There is a reasonably solution to everything.
In my years of gaming I have come across several FPS that have to BF feel of things. First game like this I played was C&C Renegade. It was actually pre-BF1942 and the multiplayer mostly consisted of destroying the other teams base structures. You earned money with points and then bought character classes or tanks. Massing for an attack in that game was simple. There was no jet or artillary strike that can come out of nowhere and claim your life or damage your newly aquired tank. There were distinct front lines for the most part. Then came BF-1942 where artillary required use of a spotter and the B-17 was a team effort, the gunners were valuable to the pilot and the pilot to the team. Soon came Joint Operations into my life. This was a run and gun style game but it had front lines to an extent but you can still go deep behind enemy lines and still live for a long time. Massing for teamwork was always fun, but due to map design flaws it hardly helped. (Each CP was a bunker that could only be attacked if it was the forwardmost bunker for each team the CP had a radius of varrying widths in which players had to be in. Some maps it was small others it was huge.)
Then there's BF2. The game where organized crazyness prevails. From my experiances the game is based on the concept of random teamplay.
Like all games a player must spawn someplace. Some games give the player a form of protection either invincibility for x amount of time or you spawn someplace where the enemy can't easily get to. In BF2 the player spawns in mid-air at several convinent locations and whereever it may be you MUST be instatly aware of your surroundings. There in my opinion are a good percentage of kills/deaths that are directly related to bad timing and players spawning. Be it spawning and there just happends to be arty at the same location 2 seconds later, or you come up on an enemy who happens to be a squad leader, one second he's alone the next theres 4 others standing there or you spawn right behind and enemy with their back turned. Its all happened to us at least once in this game.
Then theres the jets. Unlike BF1942 where the maps seemed bigger and the aircraft were slower. The jets in this game are fast, nibble, and until recently damn near impossible for infantry to kill. I am a flyboy, I love flying, I thought flying in BF2 was extasy until I got a combat flight sim. Now BF2 is cartoony to me. The maps seem to small for flying. Why am I flying my jet through a pipe in a dam? it just doesn't make sense. I'd be plenty happy if I didn't have to fly so close to the ground and that I could drop laser guided bombs as designated by whomever. BF2 is a close army combat game that utilizes everything of the modern army. Aircraft are hardly close to the action. I would understand if I was in an A-10 or SU-15t doing CAS (Close Air Support). But tactical fighters like the JSF, F-15, MIG-29?!?! Those I see up in the sky, dogfighting not bombing targets or straffing runways with the machine gun. So is the only reason they are in the game is to keep it like Battlefield series, where the games span over 60+ years of warfare and the idea was to keep the SAME basic idea for how to use air units!?!
Honestly, would you the average or hardcore player mind if they removed jets entirely? Or at least gave each side a CAS aircraft for the much needed balance that would become a tank war? Or even a flying spawn point like there was in in Secret Weapons? and scratch the whole squad leader spawning thing.
BF2 feels like a very random game now. How often has something come totally out of nowhere killed you? Jets are so fast they arn't there one moment the next they are. Helicopters, like the black hawk can hover way above ground and rain bullets down and you can't do much about it. You turn the corner and boom theres a tank pointing his barrel at you. The whole ordeal of spawning, especially with Squad Leaders. They have so much that feels so real, yet theres so much that feels so fake.
Thus BF2, unlike other games is built off of the concept of random. and it amazingly works....to an extent.
So is the system broke?

IMO if a card is supported to play any game it should always be supported for said game. You can't just drop cards after x amount of time. People will still be playing it.
Dice did drop the ball on scaleable graphics. Not everyone can afford the latest and greatest hardware. And at the rate video cards are comming out its near impossible to get a good card thats going to last more than a year or two. Lets not forget AGP-PCIE bridge that has been built now. I got an AGP mobo shortly before PCIe took off. Thank God for Nvidia converting their 7800 into an AGP card so they can sell it. Now the 6800 will drop in price and better cards are more affordable. And upgrading becomes a real option.
My 5700 runs fine, but the graphics suck. But its still playable. It does help that I have 2gb of ram and a athlon 3400+ helping it out.

Can't throw C4 (why the hell not!?!?!)
Teammates don't get killed by mines (they can be killed by grenades, why not mines?)
AA has the incredible magic missle
and last but not least, anyone thing headshots are more frequent now? I was a support turned corner and there was any engy with a MP7 I went prone and died instantly. Strange. . .

I'm all for good team work in the game but with every player doing their best damn near impression of reality will get you nowhere. The time to gather before a strike to execute is probably longer for the AA to spawn back again. . . It just doesn't seem like it would work for the average player.
Yes but in real life the jets arn't 100 feet off the ground and the F-15s primary role isn't a bomber...ASI_ramone77 wrote:
Well in real life all you do with a SAM is fire and forget plus it will only take one missile to take a jet down.
So in my opinion happy days because I hate jets!
All in all, we pilots have to be more careful. I noticed when I was playing today many of the other pilots were attacking stinger locations regardless if someone was there or not. Some pilots (the whore kind) have the timing down exactly on how long it takes for a jet to respawn or a stinger and they come in guns guns guns. No matter how accurate the AA missle is, its still useless when there isn't a launcher. IMO there should be an infantry class with a single stinger. Like give it to the AT class as another unlock but they carry 1 or 2 less AT rockets as a tradeoff.
I havn't flown a whole lot yet, and will probably jump on an empty server with a friend and test out the whole system and see how truely effective the new AA is. But from what I have seen its better for the game this way for all involved. The skill pilots who actually attack stuff thats close to a CP will be more rewarded than the runway whores of the game.
I like to follow other jets, but I try not to use missles. I've been screwed way to many times by the stupid stray missles and their love to find friendlies.
PS This shouldn't be a "My stats are better than you thread" becuase there is always someone better than you unless you are ranked #1.

Well, thats what happens in the openendedness of BF2. Sometimes I love the fact that I could run behind their lines and cap a base, other times I hate it. Some of the maps would be impossible to win unless you could do that. I've rarly seen a game of Karkand where USMC takes the first flag and marches down over the rest of them. Its moreless spliting the enemies lines and making them fight two fronts. Mashuter is more designed with that in mind giving the MEC 3 spawns and easy access to the other spawn points.
I'm glad it is openended because other games that are like BF (a la Joint Operations) it made the choice of which spawn you have to assult. Heck you had to attack them in a certain order. Yes it kept the action concentrated on a small area, but most the maps were designed like crap and it was impossible for the most part to take alot of the bases.
BF2 does have a map editor, it just sucks becuase you have to have the map installed on your HD before joinin a server.

In long range combat I dont mind people jumping around trying not to get shot. Hell I jump like mad if I am taking fire and I don't know from where. But its the "within 5 feet of me, they jump n fire a grenade at my feet" bunny hoping that I hate. At least have the guy who fired it die too or take substancial damage.
It would have been nice if it was the transport version, but oh well. You can't give it that much bigger an advantage of the Apache.
