well the reason you can't get up fast enough is because of that retarded delay they put in (although you can get around the delay by using the crouch key to get back up). i don't want there to be a delay between lying down and getting up, i just want the lying down and the getting up to both take a little more time, as well as reducing your accuracy while you're doing them.Darky wrote:

You can tell how good/smart game programmers are by how the very best players at their game play. If the game is, say, Halo 1, the very best use things like A. aiming, B. teamwork, C. cover...they do things you'd expect a good FPS player to do.
Now look at BF2. The very best players are the ones who can spam crouch, prone and jump in just the right order to make them a flying, shooting diving board, or perhaps they just go for crouch/prone/crouch/prone, or whatever.
It doesn't matter if one player runs straight into the open amongst 3 enemies, if they can make their soldier pull off enough impossible, gravity and physics-defying stunts, that person can kill them all without being touched. I guarantee that someone is getting at least a triple kill without using a bit of cover or teamwork right at this moment.
This would not work in real life.
Now, I don't want to hear a single person say "BF2 is a game, it's not real life, shut up and play." True, it's not real life. But it's not fucking Pac-Man either. There are grenade launchers with minimum arming distance, there is recoil, headshots are deadly...there are a lot of things in this game that are in real life too. In fact, 95% of this game is realistic.
But that 5% remains, it needs to be fixed, and it is the main problem with BF2: Someone with moderate skill can be straight behind an enemy, completely have the drop on him, start firing, and that enemy can jump, turn around, crouch/prone/jump/prone/crouch and take him out. That's just disgusting. If you find yourself in a situation where you have no cover and there is an enemy at point blank range with the jump on you, you should be dead. No exceptions.
A real fix needs to be put in place. I suggest several changes, mostly taking away from the ability to quickly change between prone, crouch, and standing, and preventing accurate, instantaneous gunfire while switching:
1. Longer time to change between stances
2. Shorter jumps
3. Reduced accuracy while quickly going between crouch and standing
4. Much reduced accuracy while going between prone and other stances
These are not fixes to little details. I'm not one of those people who cares that the T-90 is actually better or worse than the M1A2, or how thick the armor plating is, or whatever. I don't care about realism because I want the game to be realistic. I care about realism because I want the game to be FUN. Realistic details like the thickness of armor plating on tanks aren't important. Realistic details that lead to strategic gameplay instead of abusive gameplay are VERY important.
Besides the problem with ridiculous infantry acrobatics, BF2 is essentially a realistic, immersive, large-scale, tactical modern combat simulator. There's no reason it should be only 95% realistic. The biggest change remaining is to punish people who put themselves in a bad tactical position, by letting them get owned by someone who's in a good tactical position.

lately i've been getting killed a ton by the ak-101...i go around a corner, some guy drops to the ground and kills me with what seems to be a single shot from his ak, immediately!! this has happened to me dozens of times
it happens even when i have a ping of like 50 or 70, that's not even enough time for them to fire a single bullet without my comp seeing it (ak fires 600 shots a minute, that's 10 per second, so one shot would take a ping of 100 for me to not see, correct?)
is there some secret here? is this game actually counterstrike now? what the duece is going on?

it's agp, i'll try the refresh rate thing
a while ago i put my old radeon 9200 128mb card in my friend's Shuttle, and it worked just fine. later i put my geforce 6800gs in for about a week and now i've put the 9200 back in, but bf2 won't work. the screen goes black for a second and then goes back to the desktop like nothing happened.
i am not having problems with lag or seeing through buildings, i've read all about those problems...my 9200 actually worked already, with patch 1.22 and everything.
i have done driver cleaner and carefully followed the directions to get rid of my nvidia and ati drivers, then re-installed the newest catalyst drivers, and still no go.
anybody know what i should do?

You know the fence near main road which surrounds a bunch of crates and stuff. So I chucked my C4, expecting to get some 5 kills or something. when i turn up my settings in bf2 past medium, i still get frame rates of 40-50, but sometimes when i look around side to side it's reeaaally jerky, and then sometimes the frame rate just drops suddenly to like 10 fps, and it goes back up if i look in a different direction.
so, my question to you is, when you turn up your settings on your less than perfect rig, do you just get lower average frame rates with no strange jerkiness?
or does anyone else get mostly good frame rates....but then sudden jerkiness and problems
feedback with comp specifications would be great.
btw i have a pentium 4 2.8ghz, a geforce 6800gs AGP, and like i said, 1.5 gigs of ram

well i thought about posting it in help, but it seems like help is more "argg bf2 is crashing again, wtf do i do...and bug problems, and "help me get my knife badge" and stuff. i dunno. if a mod wants to move it, i'm sure they will.

i'm wondering how i can install bf2 on it and not have cd key problems. it would work if i put in my cd key, but then i wouldn't be able to have someone else playing on it at the same time as i play on my comp, right? is there any way to deal with this that also wouldn't make EA think i downloaded it or anything?
thanks for any feedback

i just bought special forces yesterday, and the grappling hook is so great...i'm amazed at how fun it is to climb up stuff with it.
i also like the tear gas. i think it adds a cool element of tactics to the game, and same goes for flashbangs.
i haven't tried the zip line yet.
it seems a little weird that assault, the close range armored combat class, gets the grapple, but i'm not complaining. i just love using it.
now that i've played SF, it's sad to go back to regular BF2 and not have any grapple or anything...which brings me to my point:
i think that the grapple and the other special forces exclusive items add so much to the game that they shouldn't be confined to the expansion.
i'm sure people would still buy SF even if they could already use the grapple, etc. in BF2, they would still want the maps from SF and the ability to unlock the SF guns in BF2.
i would really like to see the grapple, zip line, tear gas, flashbang, and anything else i'm forgetting added to BF2, unlocked from the start.
like i said, it seems a little weird that assault has the grapple, so maybe the certain classes that have the certain items could change a little.
it's all just sooooo fun for me, and it adds another level to an already great game.
edit: what do you guys think about this, any specific feedback?

Seriously now... slot 1? slot a? land grid array? MMX, 3dnow? AMD has always waited for intel to make a leap then duplicate with their own piss poor version of it.
Try viewing the architectural difference between Intel's dual-core and AMD's dual-core. Also view AMD's multi-processor design and Intel's multi-processor design.
Also look at what happened in the early days when 3dfx and nvidia were the only major 3D chipset companies around. Back then, nobody would want to dispute against the Voodoo1 and Voodoo2 hardware. Yet look at nVIDIA now.
Just because AMD tries their best to gain a good footing in the desktop market doesn't make them seemingly inferior as a whole. Intel is considered a leader. If Intel has something that is becoming widespread and possibly adopted, AMD has no choice but to follow through. If AMD doesn't follow through and not include the feature into their next series of processor, they'll get left behind, lose sales, and resultingly die because of it. Strategically, you have to follow through in order to stay competitive and to attract potential customers, all the while trying to find ways to improve upon the current product and to gain a better foothold in the processor market. But sometimes it's best not to follow suit. HyperThreading for instance has never been copied and implemented in AMD's series of processor. Instead, AMD skipped well past that and decided multi-core is a better solution to gain additional performance.I seem to remember Intel releasing a processor that they had to recall... gee... I wonder why. If you wish to be productive in posting, try stating your side of the argument without dragging fanboyism into the thread.99Ram2500 wrote:

Booo!
What a productive first post I made. It's rather difficult to set a standard bar for an even comparison. The only thing we have going into this is how they benchmark and set the bar there. And Conroe is definitely dual-core (ref: AnandTech article, page 1) just to let ya know.unnamednewbie13 wrote:
It's unfair to bench 65nm vs 90nm processors. Also, unless I'm mistaken, the Conroe is single core while (I know this for a fact) the FX60 is dual core, which current apps, for the most part, do not take proper advantage of. Still, I'm suprised the Conroe didn't score a bit higher than the FX60 than this chart indicates. We'll see how Intel holds up against the 90nm AM2 (and the 65nm, once AMD gets to it).
The interest I have in this is how they compare to AMD's current offering. Of course, we haven't seen how AMD's next set of processor will perform when their AM2-socketed processors are released. But we need a standard bar to compare from. We've seen for a while that AMD's S939 and S754 perform exceptionally well for games when compared with Intel's processors. Past reviews and documented benchmarks proved that. That's why we find Intel's Conroe to be so interesting, because it is impressive that Conroe would perform so well even at this stage. Is the 65nm process a factor in its performance? We cannot say nor can we ever find the answer to that. But we'd like to believe that Conroe shows terrific promise despite that it's 6 months away.

THe Shell in the M95 is significantly heavier than the other Sniper Riles. THis is why the bullet drop is more. Its still not much. Since you really cant see more than 400 or so meters in this game (damn fog everywhere) we're talking pixels here.
Dont let my Time as a sniper could your judgement of my experience. I have extensively tested all these guns in SIngle player and on empty servers prior to a game starting.
everything drops at the same rate, regardless of weight. remember that experiment where that one dude dropped a bowling ball and...like...a golf ball or something from a tower, and they fell at the same rate? that's how gravity works.
ALTHOUGH a heavier bullet will probably end up going slower because it's harder to accelerate out of the gun, and in that case it would drop more by the time it got to its target.
also, a bigger bullet will be slowed down by air resistance more, and that will also cause it to drop more before it gets to its target.
but plain weight doesn't cause faster dropping
well there's my science talk for the day, enjoy

this is overall a good idea that possibly has a few flaws. the flaws would be easily worked out by a smart team of competent programmers who know how to test ideas thoroughly, and this would add another layer of depth and teamwork to the game if done correctly.
anyone who says otherwise is either getting hung up on small details that would be worked out, or didn't read the original post all the way...honestly, do you really think there would be sniper stat padders spotting for 1/10 of a single point? of course not.
so you say they could just spam-spot? what about the idea i just read where there's a maximum of 6 spots every 30 seconds? combined with the idea of not playing the sound clip for people outside a certain distance radius? problem solved. things like that could EASILY fix every minor problem with this idea.
sometimes ideas are flawed in principle and can never be changed enough to work. this is not one of those ideas. with a little thought, it would be perfect.
edit: sorry, i had 6 spots a minute when the actual suggestion was every 30 seconds. the point is that simple adjustments like that can be applied to fix minor problems with the basic idea.

after i tried it just went straight back to the first part...even though it says that unless you get an error it worked, it's a little unsettling to just suddenly be transported back to the beginning of your upload experience with no warning.

the ak101.. all pros use them weps.. including me obviously =]... with the new 1.2 patch the g3 is a killing mechine but not so much dat its conciderd unfair =]
as for my favorite, i recently unlocked the g3 and f2000 and have been playing with them a bit, but i still love the m16's burst up close...a kill in the time it takes to double-click.
unfortunately the bus gets destroyed by what appear to be giant exploding jacks released from an enemy bomber...steve wonders why regular-looking bombs just aren't good enough
i agree with this except that i think it's not your fault if the commander doesn't tell you to blow up the assets, so i think you should get 2 points per asset no matter what. other than that, i can't believe EA doesn't have a system like this in place already. EA if you're reading this, seriously, it's about time this was balanced out.unnamednewbie13 wrote:
I think the following would be cool...
Bonus Team Points:
3 for killing enemy aircraft while on foot.
2 for killing enemy aircraft while in any non-air vehicle.
1 for killing enemy aircraft while in other aircraft.
2 for killing enemy armor while on foot with any kit weapon.
1 for killing enemy armor while in other armor.
1 for killing enemy transports in any manner.
2 for killing enemy assets in any manner, responding to "set demolitions" order.
1 for killing enemy assets in any manner, without "set demolitions" order.
2 for destroying a bridge in any manner, responding to "set demolitions" order.
1 destroying a bridge in any manner, without "set demolitions" order.
2 & punish immunity for killing anybody with more than 10 punished teamkills in one match.

i've actually only played 1.2 on this computer. i'm going to see if i get the problem with settings on low, although my system should be able to handle much more than that, even if it isn't top of the line. as for the video drivers, i have the latest that work with my card, 83.40.
i have a pentium 4 at 2.8ghz, 1.5 gigs of ram (512 unknown that came with my comp, 1 gig kingston) and a geforce 6800gs agp card. my 3dmark05 score is about 5000. i've been playing with most settings at medium and AA on 4x, and i get frame rates of anywhere from about 30 to about 70, but most of the time it's 40-50.
however, once every game or two, my fps will suddenly drop to maybe 5-10. the weird part is, when i look away from where everyone is, it usually goes smooth again. as soon as i get another person on my screen, it drops. it can be a tank, a foot soldier, anything. also, i don't have to be able to see them directly, just their user name.
i first thought it was something to do with my wireless internet connection lagging, but i noticed that the problem also happens in single player if my settings are on high. what happens then is i'll be getting about 40 fps no matter what's happening if i'm looking in one direction, but if i look quickly to the left or right it slows for a second, and then sometimes it will just randomly start the 5-10 fps thing.
any help on this would be much appreciated.

That's true.
As far as I'm concerned not getting any points would have been a crime. I'm just saying really that we aren't being encouraged to destroy these objects if there isn't anything in it for us. There really is no reason to play for a win, and that is why you have so many medic whores, jet/chopper whores, etc... we need incentive, and incentive is points.

I'd say a very short summary of what bf2 should be is: a balanced game promoting teamwork.
There are many things promoting teamwork already, like supplies, heals, etc. However, destroying the enemy's assets is a very important task, but you still only get 1 point for destroying something. In my opinion, 1 is too little - you only get 5 points for the quite difficult job of destroying every piece of equipment in the largest size base.
People get 5 points for dropping a bomb in a jet, blasting a few infantry in a tank, or throwing a c4 sandwich. This encourages more people to do those things and less people to try to take out assets.
That is imbalance.
If each asset destroyed gave 2-3 points (it could even be variable - 2 for the scan trailer, 3 for uav and artillery), it would encourage people just enough so that more people would try to take out assets, but not too many. It would be much better balanced. 1 point creates a lack of incentive for the job, 4 or 5 points would create too much incentive, and I believe 2 or 3 would be perfect.
What is necessary to get EA's attention on this? I'm guessing they don't browse through every post on these forums.
P.S. I believe this post should actually be in bf2 improvements, could someone move it please?
