The longer you hold the button, the more bombs that fall... However, it's either one or all.
Use the mines like C4... Just throw them on a tank or whatever and once they move it blows up. Great for booby-trapping unoccupied enemy vehicles too.
Welcome VEga! Not bad ideas... Especially the individual C4 detonation. But, how would you do it from a vehicle when the 'F' keys are to switch positions and the number keys are for weapons switch? Hm... Maybe C4 with variable delay would be a good middle ground?
Don't know if this is in the other 5 pages of posts, but here ya go...
Forward Air Controller (FAC)
Sprint-- Meduim
No body armor
Knife
Pistol
M-16/ AK-47
Smoke grenades
Targeting laser (select, no weapon in hand, left click setup)
Binoculars
Two badges. One for FAC combat and one for successful laser assisted kills (like medic and support). FAC Support maybe?
Points-- First "spotter" gets credit in cases of more then one "laze" on one target. Friendly laser on friendly target with kill penalizes the spotter -4 ,plus number of team deaths and the shooter -1 plus number of team deaths (you said shoot so I shot). So, two in a tank for the shooter would be -1 - 2= -3. Where as the spotter would be -4 - 2= -6. For enemy kills, 2 team points for spotter and 'X' number of kills per shot, for shooter just kills.
Special Abilities-- Allows BVR (Beyond Visible Range, but not from one side of a map to the other) targeting for helos and jets (with missiles) with laser (this could be tough in rough terrain like Kubra or Fushee and really hard in foggy weather). Uses binoculars to spot targets that show in HUD of jet or helo and on mini- map for extended period of time. On no air-asset maps can be used to extend range of anti-tank/ TOW.
Weaknesses-- 3 Second setup/dismantle of targeting system. Shooter must have a clear shot from where they are to where the target is. Targeting/ spotting can only be done from ground (no "Ha ha! I'm in a blackhawk and we can see everyone!"). Spotter and shooter have to be looking at (flying toward) the same target and spotter has to stay on target, plus if either one dies, missile misses (teamwork at its best) and if target moves in cover, miss. One "laze", one shot. Can't sweep with laser for targets (lock with left click, off with right click, if unlock after missiles normal range, miss). Targeting system has limited battery life less than NVGs in SF (recharged with supply bag). When targeting system is setup, you show as target in jet HUD.
Sounds like more cons than pros perhaps, but it would be awesome... Folks using this kit would have to coordiate with air assest, anti-tank and TOWs and visa-versa. No real balance issue as any map with air power, both sides have it and anyone can mount a TOW or carry the anti-tank kit. In addition you couldn't just sit still if you showed as a target to a jet.

Indeed.
Never heard of a 1.62 inch rocket... Lots of 2.75 inch rockets in the world though...
All off the "Blackhawk" series helos can carry those...
Yeah, I agree... Give the weapon the damage ability it deserves. In additon, the most limiting factor of being a sniper is the distance you can see. So if you give it more damage it yes will be a one hit kill, but on a lot of the maps you can't see THAT far to make it anymore of a threat then it already is.
Look at 'ThreeFeathers' stats... Hey has a death FROM a zipline....
Bayonets on the assault rifles (AKs, M-16s) would be alright too (and realistic)... Or add the ability to smack someone in the head with the butt of your gun. Perhaps not a kill, but disorientation (reverse the axis of your mouse) and knocked down?
Happy Days Are Here Again!
LONG LIVE CHUY!
LONG LIVE CHUY!
I find myself playing in my sleep sometimes... Then I get out of bed the next day and play more... My wife says I need help... I say I need a new wife.
Calm down.... I just had to vent...
If it's stupid and it works it ain't stupid...
I can't hear people whistle at work most of the time.. Though now that I think about it, I do see a few people walking around with their lips puckered and they look like retards...
I swear, the majority of people have no problems with BF2, BF2:SF, or it's patches... You folks need to examine your systems and not blame EA or any on else for your computer buffoonery...
Here's a fix though... Take your computer, put it back in the box you got it in and send it back to whatever two-bit pre-built-system bullshit company you bought it from and stick with Atari, Xbox, Playstation or whatever tickles you pea-brain fancy and quit posting "Whaaaa! My BF2 bla bla bla doesn't work!"
Okay, I vented. I feel better.

No, let both sides have them for this reason. Diversion. Let's say I am attacking, and I shoot a flare up. You are going to spearhead your defense in that area. Now that your team is looking all over where that flare was fired, I walk in and put you to bed... In addition, if someone trying to be sneaky is stupid enough to fire a flare gun before they actually should, they deserve to be shot at.
The Phalinx is a 20mm gatling. Same gun as in the F-16, F-15, F-15 and so on. M61A1.
You don't need gamespy to play online.
For clarification --
There are no "UV" tracking missiles. IR missile track a narrow band of the IR spectrum which prevents them from locking onto things like the sun, hot terrain, or reflections off such things as concrete. Newer ones have limited target recognition incorperated into thier software. Even "passive" missiles rely on the aircrafts radar for tracking until launch so there is warning, but once an aircraft fires an IR missile the launching aircraft can nose away "fire and forget". With the exception of the A-10 in which case there is no warning because there is no radar in the A-10. There is a flare (MJU-50) that when fired emmits no visible light. Fully IR. Lauch it in the dark and you don't give away your position.
Radar guided missiles fall in to two catagories. Semi and full. The AIM-7 series relies on the launching aircrafts radar for target postition all the way to impact. Which means the aircraft has to stay lock onto that one target the whole time. The AIM-120 flies mid course semi-active until within the range of the missiles radar then it's on its own (which is a LONG way). With the radar sets in F-15, F-16, F-14, and F-18 they can track and target up to eight seperate aircraft (called Track-While-Scan) and fire at each one in turn or priorititze the targets of greater threat. I don't know much about the AIM-54 Phoenix, mainly because I'm in the Air Force not the Navy, but what I do know is that because of the size and range of the missiles radar it's one of the ONLY full active missiles, anywhere. Also works simularly to the AIM-120. Target multiple, shoot multiple. It's unfortunately going away with the F-14 retirement. And for those who are wondering, the Phoenix is not the longest ranged A2A missile ever made. The Soviets had one that could be handed off to sattelites for over-the-horizon engagement.
The new AIM-9X is a serious heavy hitter... Still tracks IR, but with the new helmet mounted targeting systems, it can be launched off boresight. Normal AIM-9s (P/L/M) need to be actually pointed physically at the target in order to be within what is called the "cone". Closer to the center of the "cone" the higher chance of kill. All the pilot has to do with the AIM-9X is look at the target, fire, and the missile will go almost in any direction within I believe 75-90 degrees from the aircraft without aid of radar. There is a great video on the Raytheon website that shows this. http://www.raytheon.com/products/aim_9x/
Oh, the anti-air missiles on the carrier in BF2 are WAY off. In reality, they are the sea launched version of the AIM-7. "Sea Sparrow".
I know more, just can't tell.

I run a very clean system. No extra crap running. All I have running is core system apps, hardware apps, Xfire and TeamSpeak. Another thing that will kill a system is anti-virus software. If you have it where it scans on every read and write your performance will take a HUGE hit. Plus, I am only using about 15% of my space on my 120 GB HD
Most my graphics setting are on medium for performance. Yeah it's cool to see the nice pretty terrain and shimmering water, but it's not needed. Also, make sure your actual video card settings are not max'd out. Let the BF2 video settings run the show. Try all standard settings on your card then move them up to the point where load times lag, then adjust.
One thing I do notice, when I do change my settings whether it be because I updated drivers or just screwing around, the progress slows in two areas, Geometry and Collisions.
System (custom built)-
3.0 Ghz P4 Intel
Intel D865PERL MoBo
1.5 GB DDR400 PC133 Mem
120 GB IBM 7200 rpm HD (Primary)
60 GB Maxtor ??? rpm HD
ATI X700 Video
Viewsonic A70F 17" monitor
Creative Labs XGamer 5.1 Sound (old as hell but works great) w/ JLB speaks
Microsoft wireless KB and mouse
Logitech G5 mouse
Microsoft Trackball Explorer
Thrustmaster Cougar HOTAS stick and throttle

I have zero problems with load times (1.5 mb ram). If you look at where you are at when the bar stops, you may need to ajust your video settings. I have a ATI X700 most setting set to medium and I only wait 30 secs max.
EDIT- Make sure you have the latest drivers for everything also...

What about a flare gun as an item of equipment like the grapling hook or zip line? Only avail. on night maps. What kit though would be the question.... Engineer maybe? I have yet to run into a mine on a night map.
Everyone needs a goal in life...
Bravo! People hate change. Even when it's good change. EA could have come out witht he best title EVER and someone will bitch because it's not what they wanted or they get their pee-pees knocked in the dirt so then the game sucks. Plus, no one FORCED them to buy it. The conspiracy theory that EA is forcing people to buy the title in order to continue to enjoy BF2 is a huge load of crap. Those who bought it get some new stuff, those who chose not to can still play like the expansion never existed. Just play on servers that don't have the new mods and you're good to go.
I noticed there there is a bug with the rank progress now... BF2s shows 58%, but the BFHQ from what I can figure is around 30%. I'll be pissed if I've been been plugging away for 20k points to get 1st Sergeant to have the goal go higher. I also notice that the points aren't showing the same on BF2s vs. BFHQ.
I notice there is an aerial ribbon for kills in an airplane? Where are the airplanes?
I'll have to look it up... LOL
Outstanding.... Thanks...
We use this phrase in aircraft maintenance... Pilots are stick actuators. For example -- Pilot lands with an AGM-65 problem. Works fine for us on the ground. Good video, good slew and lock. We say "R2 (remove and replaced) stick actuator.
Therefore, keyboard actuator is the operator of the keyboard.

My load times havn't changed at all. Still about 30 seconds. The first time however, it took about 2 minutes.
The day maps I have seen are huge. Warlord and Surge are real big. Iron Gator isn't AS big, but because of the scenerio, it isn't meant to be.||BFA||xZeler8 wrote:
there are some day maps which are cool, but they are pretty small and VERY fast paced...if you play BF2 and absolutely hate tank whores then this game is for you, neither tanks nor helos seems to stay alive too long in this one
The NVG stuff on the night maps takes some getting used to and the novilty of using the new stuff is distracting, plus everyone is running around all crazy shooing tear gas and throwing flashbangs at anything that moves, but that will wear of in time.
So yes. The tactics have changed, but it's worth it.
I submitted the question to EA. We'll see what comes of it.
No, I downloaded it from EA already, but I would feel better if there was a way to download it again or whatever to make a back up of my ALREADY authenticated version... For clarification there shaunboulton...
has anyone figured out how to create or download a back-up of BF2SF so it can be burned to a disk for safe keeping?
I think you should be able to shoot lights out.
Add a flashlight to certain weapons that would give the same blind effect as a flashbang while pointed at someone at close range.
Add headlights to vehicles and a spotlight position to boats, but not the jet skies (having same effect as above).

I got 3 right off the bat after my first round...
You have to run the original version to get the original maps. If you have servers on your favs that are running original maps, and you join from Spec For., it will close it then run the original BF2.
That's what I've seen anyway...

I killed a sniper on the crane a Sharqi with my pistol from the stairs right under it... I used an entire clip hittng the little parts of him showing. He never thought to look straight down...
I disagree that the US has been the greatest aggressor. If you look at our involvement in world wars, Korea, Vietnam, Bosnia, etc. we've been there to aid someone else. Never has the US invaded a nation with the intent of actually keeping it. WWI, help Europe. WWII, help Europe and basically prevent Japan from taking over all of the Pacific and keep them from getting to Australia. Korea, push China and the Soviet Union back to keep them from Japan. Vietnam started as helping the French. Desert Shield/ Desert Storm we aided Kuwait and defended Isreal as well as Saudi Arabia. Many ask why we didn't level Iraq in the '90s? That wasn't the mission. Though I believe that if we would have got Saddam then, things would perhaps be different now. However, what's to say that if we had gone into Iraq then with the intention we have now that we would have been in the same situation then we are now?
Then you get the folks that say that the war in Iraq is about oil. During Desert Storm, I was just graduating highschool getting ready to join the Air Force. I was dead-set about my feelings that what we were doing was the right thing for world stability. Now that I am older, been in the military for a little over a decade, I see things differently. Damn right it's about oil! World runs on it! If Iraq would have kept Kuwait then pushed into rest of the Arabian penninsula, Iraq would have contolled a HUGE portion of the worlds oil causing massive world economic problems.
Being in the Air Force as a bomb loader I get asked all the time why we don't level the areas where the worst fighting is. IMO two reasons. First off, it would be self-defeating if we start blowing the hell out of the country our president have vowed to help. Killing the people you are trying to help isn't good form. Second, we have so many troops on the ground it would be difficult to bomb areas without taking the chance of friendly-fire accidents. You'd have to pull all the troops out, bomb it, and then what? You just made a parking lot out of an area you were trying to defend. However, I do humor these people by telling them that muntions technology enables aircraft to drop concrete bombs with guidance packages that could level a buildings without the blast effect. I also tell them that there is air power in use. A-10s fly close air support. B-52s fly death halos over areas waiting for coordinates for GPS guided bombs from forward air contollers to drop on anything at a moments notice. F-15s and F-15s fly patrols for fast attack response and airspace security. Attack helicopters fly recon hunting out would be attackers and neutalizing them.
Back on topic -- I feel that the perseption of the US being a huge aggressor recently comes from the ability to blow up anything, anywhere, anytime with devistating effects and because of media coverage you can watch the news and all you see is troop and death that the hands of those troops. Which in turn give the impression that all we're doing is blowing crap up and killing people. Rarely do you hear about the good things that are happening. War is messy. Will means be justified at the end? Time will tell... This perception also comes from the fact that we have big guns and big bombs and we aren't afraid to use them when the situation calls for it. Our military IS aggressive. We send waves of aircraft and ground troops into a nation, bomb it back to the stone age with such speed that it looks like we have no resistance. That's the idea! Cripple your enemy fast and make them beg you stop.

Where's the beer?
Hm.... Perhaps he is onto something. Sure have the sniper rifle have a reticle but make the deviation so bad that you would have more luck throwing the gun at the guy... Plus with the recoil of a .50 cal? Kind like running around with the support gun trying to shoot someone while you're standing up. Plus with the reload time with the sniper you wouldn't stand a chance anyway if you missed against a semi/auto weapon.
Totally agree! The "gang" (all 3 of us) that I play with brought up the same thing just the other night. Nothing better than hearing the hollow sound of the butt of a gun against someones head. Thought I feel I would be at the receiving end more often then not...
As far as the buildings-- This game is realistic on many levels, but as for building interaction it totally lacks. You're right, make the buildings actual BUILDINGS. Doors, windows and all... Also, on some maps with light structures, make them where they can be totally destroyed. Tin roof immune to arty? Please... Give the ability to enter a buiding, defend it, us it as a fire base. Awesome. Think of the tactical possibilities... But here's the question -- Do you take away the ability of the UAV and Scan to see through walls? Would you make the UAV blind and only make the Scan see into buildings? With the ability of arty and large muntions to destroy and damage buildings, there would have to be a line drawn. No holes blown in a building safe from UAV? Or only after damaged? But then would this prompt a huge drive to blow up everything around? Hm.... Great tactical and strategic question... Would folks destroy a structure to keep it from the enemy, or keep it in case they need it later taking the chance the enemy will take it anyway?
Karkand, Sharqi and Mashtur would see massive, long drawn out battles where you would actually have to fight buidling to building rather than just run the streets...
Also, I feel that oil tanks, and oil fields on the maps that have them should be able to be blown up throwing smoke into the air inhibiting the ability or air defense or air supremecy. Think about it. Blow them up on purpose to keep aircraft from being able to see down or blow them up so air defense can't see up. Also, this could cause a fog on the battlefield limiting the distance people could see on the ground. Make random wind effect so the smoke is never blown in the same direction? Wind blowing away from the battlefield? Wasted muntions...
Gulf of Oman, Zatar, and Oil Feilds would see some serious action...
Total environmental interaction.

I would say add a MANPADS (man-portanble air defense system) unit. Make it swappable with the anti-tank unit. Give it the standard knife and pistol then perhaps a shotgun and a 4 round stinger kit. Perhaps make it where it can always see aircraft without someone spotting them and without aid of UAV on the radar?
