That helped me resolve my issue. I posted it here in case anyone was having the same issue I was. I had to disable User Account Control and my anti-virus and the installer was able to start. Thanks!Project Reality Forums wrote:
Since a lot of people seem to be having problems with PR 0.85, and all the answers and fixes seem to be the same, I'm going to write up a quick FAQ.
Q: I cannot run the installer, it just hangs.
A: If you are running Windows Vista, try disabling User Account Control (UAC). You can also try disabling your anti-virus protection, and any other program that may be interfering with the launch of the installer. If this doesn't help, it may be a corrupted download. You can try fixing the corrupt sectors by using the torrent and pointing the save location to the corrupted installer, saving you having to download the entire file again.
Q: I have no desktop shortcut, how can I run PR?
Q: There is no pr.exe, how can I run PR?
Q: I get kicked off servers for mods\pr\shaders_client.zip MD5Tool Mismatch errors.
A: As of PR 0.85, unlike other versions, it no longer requires pr.exe. You need to update your shortcuts to launch bf2.exe. More information on how to do this is in the Installation Guide wiki. See HERE.
If you are still getting kicked for md5 failures on that file, you need to ensure that you indeed have that file. Check /Battlefield 2/mods/pr/ and see if there is a shaders_client.zip file. It should be 184 KB (188,781 bytes). If it is not there, reinstall PR 0.85 Core.
Q: I am getting kicked from servers for Punkbuster MD5Tool Mismatch <filename> errors, and the filename is not mods\pr\shaders_client.zip.
A: This error means the files you are using have been modified one way or another. Could've been by accident, could've been on purpose. Either way, you will get kicked. To fix, take note of the filename. If it is "something" or "mods\bf2\something", you need to reinstall BF2 and patch to v1.41. If it is "mods\pr\something", you need to reinstall PR 0.85. Information on how to correctly install BF2 and PR can be found in the Installation Guide wiki. See HERE.
Q: I am getting kicked from servers for Punkbuster issues other than md5 kicks.
A: Most commonly, these types of issues are solved by updating Punkbuster files. You can do this by running PBSetup. If that still doesn't fix the issue, try running PBSVC and reinstalling the Punkbuster service.
Q: I am getting a warning screen about pr.exe when trying to launch PR.
A: You did not uninstall a previous version of PR before installing PR 0.85. Read the Installation Guide wiki on how to properly update your version to PR 0.85. See HERE.
Q: I get the following error when trying to join a server, "You have an older version than the server."
A: This means that you are not running BF2 1.41. Ensure that you have run this patch. The proper installation order can be found in the Installation Guide wiki. See HERE.
Q: I have no maps when I try to create a server.
A: First, ensure that you have downloaded PR 0.85 Levels. If you have and have installed it, you need to edit the following file, use notepad or similar to open: "Documents\Battlefield 2\Profiles\<profile>\General.con" (where <profile> is the number of your profile, as seen in the order of the login screen, 0001 being the first in the list). Once you have opened that file, edit the line "GeneralSettings.setUseBots" and change the 1 to a 0. Save, and you should be fine.
Q: I am getting crash to desktops when loading/changing levels.
Q: I am getting a lot of lag on levels.
A: The most common cause of this is that you are running out of memory. BF2 was a memory intensive game, and PR only increases on that.
First, you can try lowering your video settings, in particular, Textures. If that doesn't help or fix your issue, you can try increasing your virtual memory. Information on how to do this is located in the Installation Guide wiki. See HERE.
If that STILL doesn't work, you can try patching your bf2.exe to allow it to use more than 2GB of memory. Firstly, you want to backup your current bf2.exe in your /Battlefield 2/ folder. To do this, simply rename it from bf2.exe to bf2.exe.original. You should back it up incase you have any issues in the future. Now you need to download the patched bf2.exe. This can be found in THIS zip file (THIS one if your using the EA Downloader version) (If you get a virus warning, ignore it, just a false positive). Simply extract it next to bf2.exe.original, and your good to go. Thanks to R.J.Travis for the original method.
I just downloaded this version of the game and I posted under another thread, but I think I would rather post my question here. Look:

Guys, I need some help. I downloaded the core files. I got the core set up and the levels set up files, however, when I click to install the game nothing happens. My computer loads the installer in the background, but it never shows up to actually install the game. My system starts to run much slower after that. I don't know whats wrong. I have 4 gigs of ram, an intel core 2 duo with 2.7 speed. My graphics card is radeon hd 2600 xt with 512mb. Am I doing something wrong? I set the core file to open as administrator on Vista. I can't think of anything else.... if you have this trouble too, please let me know. PM me or something thank you!

Daqing Oilfields is my favorite map, so I play on Army of Death \A*D/ a lot. Legion At War L@W is a great one for armored fury.
And then of course, one of the best servers out there, is FullContactWar. Always great teamwork going on there, and Voip is encouraged.
I agree, this makes the most sense to me.**LiLp-DeFiNeD wrote:

my fav? is www.archdesi.blogspot.com because its mine! lol
lmao, I was on a server last night in Karkland and I was MEC on my way to the USMC spawn points. I was going through the mountains on the right side of the map. I guess I was "camping" because the admin kicked me off the server. I mean, I wasn't even sitting in one spot, I was on my way toward their base. I guess I can't spawn kill in that server! lolBeduin wrote:
Spawn kill! I think I got mine like that back in the days...
Ok, so the Kits I could use are Medic and Support. Now, what do you guys think are the top 5 maps that would be the best to level up on Pistol and Knife?
I tried last night on Karkland but I was annoyed by the nade spammers!

Thanks guys for all the help, I will try with Medic and Sniper when I get a chance. I'm sure it'll be fun! lol
Hey guys, I know a lot of you have more experience than I do when it comes to BF2 and I think you might be helpful to me. I'm trying to get my pistol badge and my knife badge. I'm working with pistol first because its easier, I mean, I'm pretty decent with the pistol in-game. However, I'd like to know which kit you guys would recommend to use pistol with. I haven't payed attention to see if there is a difference within the kits when it comes to the pistol and I haven't really focused on using it much. I thank you in advance!
I bought this: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications … =H231-2606 on Friday!

Is it year 2005 again? Welcome to battlefield, Pab!
Anyways, you guys are right. It is a game to have fun, it is a game to blow things up and kill people! Thats the whole point. I'm just saying, sometimes it's annoying when people are just walking around, hoggin the tanks, helis and other things and NOT CAPPING flags. Having everyone else do all the work, don't get me wrong though, BF2 is fun and I love blowing crap up! Thanks for all the replies! You guys PWN!
LMAO!!!!!! You got me too!ColCarnage wrote:

Nope, never. What difference does it make?
Don't even get me started with camping...! lmaosteelie34 wrote:
i still find teamwork occasionally. usually i just squad lead... if people spawn on me, great, i keep inviting them the next rounds. it all depends on the server too. the well known, consistently populated servers usually have a core of regulars who always use teamwork. the lesser known servers or smaller games usually just have people flying around or camping
lmao! I'm sorry, but that made me laugh! lmaoGR34 wrote:

My friend plays this Mod, I've heard its kinda strange. I mean, It doesn't bother me that people have fun playing, it just like "what the heck are they doing?" Just sitting around, not capturing flags or USING the weapons we have such as helis and tanks. I understand that it's pub and pub = whatever. But what is the point of playing a game when you're not interested in getting the assets to win?Ace.O.Lamb wrote:
Two words: Project reality! I recently downloaded it and its everything Bf2 vanilla is not. EVERYONE works in squads and as a whole team!
Oh and by the way, Ace, I downloaded Project Reality but have not yet installed it. I'm still waiting for some more information about it and some feedback from friends. From what you said, it seems you would recommend it.
Lol, Yeah, I guess they don't know any better. I, however, have not been playing BF2 for a while. I got the game back in 2007 and played on and off, I didn't play for about a year and I started again recently. I don't consider myself a veteran or anything, because I have a LOT of things to learn. I think I'm a noob, lol, but I can tell the difference between success with teamwork and failure working alone!I'm Jamesey wrote:
The average bf2 player lacks ingame IQ and prefers to run around on their own avoiding flags and being useful in general.
I didn’t know where to post this thread, so I’m posting it here.
Last night I was playing on Wake Island with a friend and I was on the North Village flag. I was US and the Chinese were putting up a fight. My friend and I noticed something, I mean, we were playing and we noticed that we were doing most of the work. We were on a squad and people kept joining but everyone else that was not in my squad was driving around in the transport cars and tanks, and were not pushing enough to capture flags. While people on the Heli’s were flying around, I don’t know what they were doing, but they were enjoying recreational time I guess. Our commander was so annoying, he was just doing artillery strikes on all the uncapped flags, killing everyone, including us! It was so annoying being teamkilled while trying to capture a flag. There was another dude on our team that I guess had bad eyesight, because he kept mistaking us for the enemy and nading us, and sniping us!
Anyways, the point of this thread is, why can’t people just work together instead of trying to do everything by themselves? I mean, the commander has a job, the squads and squad members have a job. If they do their job correctly, they will win the round. Now, I can’t seem to find the answer to why people want to be lone wolves. They don’t accomplish anything and are obstacles because they can’t really be communicated with as good as with someone on your squad. Instead of being useful, they become obstacles.
Does anyone else have any comments on this? Any opinions? I apologize in advance if I posted this in the wrong section! Sorry!
But hey, the Chinese were in a little hut by the North Village, there were four of them in it trying to capture the flag… so I used my rocket launcher and.. goooooodddd byee! LOL Its always nice to get more than one kill with a nade!
Take care guys, keep up the good gamin on BF2!

omg... 4 star general.. and I'm only a Sargeant...
So far it looks really awesome, the only thing I don't really like is the uniforms, but hey, it was in 1943! lol But that trailer looks realllllllyy cool!
Well I think, just as many of you do, that a noob with any kit is annoying. Specially a medic that is right infront of you when you're dead and ignores the many attempts times you call out "medic!" But a camping sniper can be very, very annoying. But hey, give him a dose of his own medecine. Find him and snipe him! Being a good player on BF2 means you have to be diverse, so getting good with every kit is essential!
Thank you for taking the time to post this. I am very interested because I, too, unload a clip on someone, a whole magazine, and they kill me with one shot. It is frustrating, anyways, I have two questions. I'm a little confused with the whole ping thing, after I join any server I do the tilde (~) and enter the command. Now, as the person asked before me, this is before any server correct? And the other question, I'm assuming I would have to back up my config files before messing with this right? Thanks again for your time! Keep up the good work!
I am relaxed most of the time, analyzing and studying the battlefield. However, when there is an opportunity to capatilize on the damage, in a good way, I can be abusive. I am a relaxed, serious gamer!
Mine is my last name. I, however, have a lot of different names when I play online on different games. They vary!
Wow this is very good, thanks for taking the time to post this information!
