For my laptop when I'm out and about, a cheaper portable pair to carry around to friend's houses and LAN's and whatnot. Plus, they're sexy and go nicely with the white sexiness of my Vaio .

Edit: It's a SteelSeries Siberia Headset (non-USB, I like my jacks), for anyone that doesn't recognize and witness the fitness.

Any good? They're pretty mid-range affordable price, so I guess the quality will be starkly shittier than my Sennheisers. Still though, I hope they're durable and have decent mid-high quality sound, with a no-bullshit microphone. £50 quid on a headset should manage that just fine nowadays, it's not as if we should have to put up with crackly low-quality microphones and cheapy plastic manufacturing. What's your verdict? I've seen generally favourable reviews all round but I guess when it comes to headsets/earphones, only 0.1% of people even bother spending some serious dolluh anyway... so no one really knows what the actual 'good' stuff is. a couple of us had them originally and recommended them to other bf2s-ers.  they're all extremely happy with their purchase, so that probably says something.

You get what you pay for pretty much. Sound is a little hollow, if you get what I mean. Bass is pretty good, mids are decent, extreme highs can be ear-piercing at times.

Still, nothing stands out as terrible, but I didn't buy them for music anyway. I only use them for gaming, for which they're pretty awesome. Surround sound is good and accurate

I for one am sick of cheap plastic manufacturing. I've gone through a ton of the cheapy Logitechs, and a few higher dollar ones, including my Tritton AX51's which had awesome reviews for durability and well constructed. I never dropped them or abused them, but they developed a stress crack which turned into full on snappage of the left ear piece...which made the left ear cup dangle to the side and not fit against my head, so they were useless.

I'm hoping my new Sennheisers will be some serious beasts and not fucking break on me. They better be, cause they cost me $100.

i drop the Siberias all the time.  i also constantly roll over the mic/headphone wire and become entangled on it and trip when I'm in a hurry.  this has been going on for perhaps 2 years so it's pretty sturdy.

lol, so I'm not the only one that gets the cord tangled around my chair, eh?

It's funny how that happens, cause I don't really think I move that much in my chair...but apparently I do.

nah i barely move in my chair actually.  but the damn cord creeps up to the wheels and when i go to turn the wheels so i can rest my feet on the legs, i roll over the cord.  i sigh heavily then fix it.  then the doorbell rings, my dog goes apeshit, and i stand up to hurry down and catch the UPS guy before he assumes i'm not home, and trip on the cord.  i pull a "2 feet in" NFL catch kind of thing and save kicking the cord out of my sound card, but i land facefirst on the floor.

good times.

some break easily, some don't.

dunno why.

I was lucky and got a great pair, lost them tons of times from over 1.5 meters, and they haven't failed yet. However, my cousing bought one that broke after a week (ear piece fell off), returned it and got a new one that broke, returned it and now he has one that's been solid for ~1.5 years. It's a known problem apparently, so they're nice with the warranty

My friend broke two headsets in one night once.

He had them plugged into the front of his computer, and he got up to do something and tripped over them, and ripped the cord in half. Then, he plugged a different headset in, and DID THE SAME THING AN HOUR LATER!!

They were just cheapy $10 headsets, but it was mad funny.

nope, both have original Icemats.

I have heard stuff about some that had production errors and would nearest fall apart after opening the package. If it isn't a good batch, you'll notice within a couple of days, so you can just RMA it

But thinking about returning and getting this instead:

Will that still put out recognisable HDMI? Or will it be like plugging a digital adapter in an analogue socket?

DVI uses the same signalling as HDMI.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP
