First time was 120+mph in my '90 Beretta. I went so fast, the computer shut down the engine. I was late for work that day. Since then, I have broken the 100mph mark twice but never caught. I have only been picked up twice for something stupid like 10-15 over, and that was because I wasn't paying attention.

It's a very VERY small town and it's more of a resort than anything. I go there specifically each time my dad and I take a trip up to vermont yearly. I love it there.
I see the article now, but I don't get how they'd become part of NH...
Main article: Killington, Vermont secession movement
Killington's voters have twice voted to secede from Vermont and join the state of New Hampshire 25 miles to the east. The movement stems from what some residents perceive as an inequity in taxes sent to the state of Vermont, and services received. The votes are largely symbolic, as secession would require the agreement of both states' legislatures and the U.S. Congress.

Vermont's problems are that it is stuck in the 70's, too many people are smoking pot, and the state politicians' only answers to their problems are to dig into the people's pockets and raise taxes. Oh and try to arrest the current Pres. and Vice Pres.

Bush has just under 2 years left. Give it a freaking rest. We started this war, give our troops the chance to end it. He has to live the rest of his life knowing he has the blood of how many thousands of troops staining his hands. All I hear is "bring our troops home" and "impeach the pres." and "no more money for war". I am getting really sick of it. Answer this: HOW WILL IMPEACHING THE PRESIDENT FIX OUR CURRENT SITUATION?
Lets play out the impeachment scenario:
-Bush gets impeached, goes to jail, doesn't get his $200
-Cheney becomes new President
-Cheney has heart attack from stress (or old age) or gets arrested & jailed for shooting another lawyer
-Nancy Pelosi becomes President
-Pelosi starts her menstruation cycle - World War III
I would rather keep Bush in until the end of his term than risk the latter. Just my 2 cents.

You are right, it's not a deterrent for that sort of person. It is a method of punishment. People like that can't be rehabilitated, and I really don't like spending money to keep them alive in prison until the day they die. I would rather spring for some electricity, a length of rope, a syringe full of Sodium thiopental, Pancuronium bromide, & Potassium chloride, etc...UnOriginalNuttah wrote:

The problem with removing the death penalty is that you take away the fear of the consequences for a criminal's actions. It is not so much as a way for the victims to get closure, but to take away the attitude of: "I will end up in a nice, warm prison, getting 3 squares a day and some exercise." THAT is why I am for the death penalty!!!
First off: Saddam was convicted by an Islamic court of law. Their laws institute far greater punishments than that of the US. They also provide for those punishments to be carried out very swiftly. That being the case, I think only Muslims would be able to offer a true opinion on Saddam's punishment. Me personally, I hope his neck doesn't snap when he falls.
As far as the death penalty goes, it's purpose is more effective as a deterant of crime. If a person comtemplates committing a crime worthy of the death penalty, he/she may think otherwise. The problem is that not only do enough states not use it, but many criminals opt for plea bargains offered by the prosecution. Here in New Hampshire, we are about to have our first capital murder case in many years. You can read it for yourselves here: http://www.wmur.com/news/10250896/detail.html It won't be long before we build a brand new lethal injection chamber. Personally, I think gallows are cheaper, but, it's not my decision.

Ok, but how do his comments reflect upon military officers? Their commission in the service REQUIRES a college degree. How do you think they feel?Agent_Dung_Bomb wrote:
Well, you can call it what you want, but the fact is that much of the military is now coming out of places where unemployment is high, and high school graduates are a rarity.
Edit: An enlistment in the service requires some sort of high school diploma or GED. Not only that, most college is paid for by the service, i.e. tuition reimbursement, GI Bill, Nat'l Guard programs, etc...
Besides, the best thing for a young person is to do a tour in the service. With some of the kids I am seeing today, a foot in the ass during boot camp is just what they need. Plus it gives them skills for a good job after the service as well as some discipline.
If Sen. Ketchup, I mean, Kerry WAS talking about the Pres., he should have done a far better job of making sure uneducated GI's, like myself, knew he was referring to Bush. Out of context or not, the man is still an ass-clown. That particular comment was out of line and completely uncalled for. If he wants to make a joke, he should go for this one:
"Bush's suit is black..................................................................................................................not!!!"
BTW, I love the thread title. Everytime I read it, I get a chuckle.

The last time I was pulled over was because I spun my wheels pulling out of a gas station. I was held at gun point because the cops thought I robbed the place & was making my getaway. How was I supposed to know the police station was across the street? It was dark out. Since I was in the middle of po-dunk nowhere Oklahoma, I thought I was going to get shot or worse.

Actually, I just heard that USAF basic is going to 12 weeks. The last few years, it has been 7 weeks.
Good luck, Frank. The 10 years I have spent in the USAF and ANG have been the best.
The best advice I can give you is this:
1) Enjoy your job, whatever it is, and don't hate where ever it is you get stationed. If you don't like your job, you will be miserable and your career will suffer. If you only hate the place you are stationed at, you will not find anything fun to do and you will be miserable. There are other options if you don't like what you do or where you are at, unless you get sent to Iraq.
2) Watch the drinking. If you are under age, just wait until you hit 21. Seriously, I have seen many young people's lives get ruined due to underage drinking. Just friggin' wait. It won't kill you.
3) Take your job seriously, but not too seriously. Especially since you are going in for SP. You can get really hurt really quick if you screw around.
4) Don't dread Basic Training. Learn from it & don't bounce. Drill Instructors HATE bouncing.
Finally...
5) If the Command Chief Master Sergeant for 19th Air Force visits your unit, don't say "Yea" to him if he asks you a question. If you (or someone else) does, get a picture and post it, because I haven't seen that look in a few years.
San Antonio is a cool place. You will be there for a while. Go to Dick's Last Resort down on the Riverwalk.
Oh, btw, stay away from Navy chicks. Trust me on this.

I think that may be a fire code violation in the US. If a fire fighter is responding and can't open the door from the outside, that's a problem. Besides, I don't think locking down the school like that is the answer. I don't know what the answer is.
It seems, I could be wrong here, a lot for these shootings with a kid being the shooter, involves kids who had been mistreated by their peers. Insert random sarcastic "DUH" here. Perhaps the answer is for these kids to treat each other better. It could be as simple as that. Perhaps schools shoud be teaching the "Golden Rule" more often and at a younger age. "Treat others as you want to be treated." How hard is that?!? Seriously.
In the meantime, since I live near a high school, I think I may go down to my ANG base and pull my kevlar out of inventory. It may not stop a bullet completely, but I will have a better chance than others at survival.
I voted no. I remember my teachers from high school and there's no way I would want them to be carrying. And that was 10+ years ago.
