Cities: Skylines put me a solid week behind in lectures. Such a good city builderpirana6 wrote:
Just got Cities: Skylines today. Pretty freakin awesome. My last sim-type city game was SimCity 2000 so take that as you will.
I was debating between SimCity and this and finally decided on the latter. I'm sure I would have been happy with both, but my one major issue with SimCity was the inability to expand your current city. I realize you can build a new city but I didn't like the idea of starting over. There were pros do doing it with the specializations, but it didn't sway me enough.

can't be a USB device (keyboard/mouse are the only things plugged in) - usually in the middle of the night so doubt it's vibrations from walking.
I live in an old ass house so I wouldn't be surprised if the the electrical stuff is a little shoddy.
Also there's a "mcupdate_scheduled" thing in the task scheduler that has the "wake the computer" box checked and it's set for every day at 12:07AM (thought it usually turns on between 1230 and 1245) would it be bad to disable it?
Been a while since I've been here, but I've googled and cant figure it out so I figured I'd see if anyone around here can help.

Ideas?

wondering what kind of settings I'm going to be looking at playing this game. I can run BFBC2 at all highs except for AA and AS filtering which are both turned off.
I'd considered building a computer again with the same tower and PSU but my business had a slight accident in which 30grand worth of equipment was destroyed, so that's a no go for the moment.

So I got a new hard drive [http://www.frys.com/product/5947234?sit … 20Pod:Pod4] plugged it in, turned on the computer and it spun up and showed up in the bios. When vista booted it didn't show up when I opened up the "Computer" tab. It shows up in the device manager...? So the computer recognizes that it's there, but I can't access it, I can't find anywhere to format it. Did I miss something or is it busted? I didn't think I had to worry about jumpers or master/slave or primary/secondary drives with SATA drives...

Look at the last picture, the thin little black cable near the top left of the graphics card connects from the gpu to the sound card, and the gpu comes with a DVI to HDMI converter. I had the card for a while but ended up taking it back and never got a chance to see if it carried sound... but I don't know why it would come with that cable if it didn't?

It makes sense when you see a snake with two heads, because they actually have heads.
They lack legs, and even if fetal snakes have some pre-leg structure left over from their evolutionary history, the amount of sequence addition/change that would need to happen to form a complete leg would be nearly impossible. That's really odd to say the least.

I'm returning mine next week.
After 5-10 minutes in most games it will either freeze the computer or CTD.
Temps are fine, nothings over clocked, everything worked perfectly with my 8800 GTS 512
Or you could get it and just wait until drivers that work come out

Right now it's on craigslist for 100, I'll probably get 80ish for it. I don't mind spending 50-70 bucks for a gtx 275... It'll future proof me for a while, I don't play many games anymore
Right? I mean they give a ton of money in grants and scholarships, but it's still fucking outrageous
Well I could... but computers are less of a priority these days. I have to buy books for next semester, I just bought an 1800 dollar bike and I'm going to have to get a 200 dollar kit next semester for the cycling team... I mean I work but I'm also going to a school that costs 46k a year to go to..
Yeah it doesn't make much sense. Last year I applied for and got so many outside scholarships that I thought that my university would end up giving me less than they said they would. I know the same applies for those who choose to work though college. It's a crap shoot man
So right now I have an 8800 GTS G92. I'm not necessarily in the market for a new card because I can still play games pretty well (resolution is 1920x1200) and I don't really want to spend a ton of money.
However, every Friday, Frys (a local electronic store) puts out a four page ad and I found this little gem: (GTX 275 for $149)
http://www.frys-electronics-ads.com/ads … phics-Card
Now I just checked out newegg and the lowest I could find it was $219.
So I guess here's the point of the post, I've been out of the graphics card loop for a while, and I know that DX11 is just around the corner (and I won't be able to buy anything DX11 for quite some time), but this seems like a really good deal.. how much of a boost would a GTX 275 give me over my 8800 GTS?

I was just curious if anyone else had ever experienced this...phenomena. It usually happened to me when I was really tired as a little kid and hasn't really happened in years, but for some reason it happened last night. Usually it starts with my internal voice getting really chatty, then really deep and loud and I lose control of it. Then I feel like everything in my bedroom (since it only happens when I'm in bed trying to sleep) gets huge. It's a really strange feeling, my cousin first asked me if I'd ever had it happen to me a few years ago in front of our parents; I said that I did but I thought it was a normal thing--our parents thought we were loosing it.
Apparently it's fairly common in children but people tend to grow out of it. Has anyone here ever experienced it?

He didn't "kill cats," he brutally tortured and mutilated them. As hippie as it sounds, people are so detached from the natural world that we seem to forget that as advanced as we are, in a biological sense we're still very closely related with animals. It's not as if cats, or any animal we kill without giving it much thought, are just mindless drones. They feel pain the same way we do, and each animal I've ever interacted with has had it's own distinct personality. If you've yet to notice that, you probably haven't had much contact with animals--but in the process of stalking and slaughtering these cats, he most definitely noticed it. Needless to say, he's considerably messed up. Institutionalization/jail time would benefit society much more then letting people like him roam the streets.

2) How do you have everything connected, I have an x-fi sound card, would I just go through that? Does it go through your sub into your sound card and how would I connect them without the sub? With two separate monitors would I get two different channels (like in video games where which speaker the sound comes from is dependent upon which direction you're facing or in songs where the speakers are utilized at different times)?
I know it's a lot of questions but if you know the answers it'd really help me out..

But beware-the X-fi doesn't have hardware volume controls meaning you will have to adjust volume on each speaker separately (controls are on the back, really hard to access)

haha sorry, I'm rather ignorant when it comes to how the whole thing works -- I'm just confused as to how I would plug these in. Would I just get an adapter and plug them both into it and then the adapter into the little green hole on my sound card?

The Rokits are designed to give as neutral sound as possible, which theoretically is the best for everything, but depending on what you listen to, you might want something with a bit more bass rather than sonic accuracy.

efffff, the more I read into it, the more it seems like monitors like the rokits would be better for mixing and recording... not just listening. Should I just stick with the creative/logitech/klipsch like brands?
Okay, so here's what I have at this point:
http://www.frontendaudio.com/KRK_RP5G2_ … p/2973.htm
I can get the KRK rokit 5s here for $238 shipped
I can get the m-audio AV40 from dell for $134 shipped
I don't know how many of you guys have experience with this stuff.. but for those that do:
I've read waaay too many reviews about how the KRKs are overpriced and even more about how they are god's gift to mankind. Being that they'll be set up in a relatively small college dorm room, I don't think that I'll need to add a sub, but if I do sometime down the road, is it feasible and how would I go about doing it? Also, I know that I can hook the AV40s right up to my computer but it sounds like I might need some kind of adapter to add the KRKs -- is this true?
Finally, between both of those speakers, I know that they're remarkable for music/movies, which is what I would mainly be using them for, but I do enjoy the occasional video game and I've been hearing that they aren't that great for games? To what extent is this true and would they be any worse than the logitech 2.1 system I have now?
Thanks in advance

Freezer. I'm expecting your "audiophillic" help btw...
Yeah I heard about those, and I've heard that while they're good, the AV40s win. I've been looking around more and I've found the "ALESIS M1 Active Mk2 Bi-Amplified Reference Monitor." While it's double the price of the m-audio AV40s, and the same price as the rokits, I've heard a lot of two times the price for four times the performance. Any validity to this?
So right now I have a fairly old, fairly shit 2.1 logitech sound system. I'm at college so due to space limitations.. I can really only get a 2.0 or 2.1 system. I was looking on newegg and came across these two:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6836121122 $130
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6836121015 $244
After further prowling I found the second set up for 79 bucks from tigerdirect (vs the 244 price tag on newegg). I had my mind pretty much made up until I found the M-audio AV40s... then shit got more difficult. I started looking at the rokit KRK series and everything started getting waaay too expensive. The speakers will be used for movies, music and games. After reading some reviews it looks like m-audio is the way to go, they sound like they are great speakers, they don't need a sub and I've found them for as low as ~$130 shipped. Is there something else that I should consider or is this the way to go?

That's the point of the documentary... It's set up in a way that cars are the only way to go. 'GM' would come into cities under the alias of another company (National Transit Lines), buy out all of the electric rail lines and slowly start shutting down service/make it incontinent for people to ride. Then less people would ride the lines, they could jack up price to compensate and then switch to buses because it would be more 'cost effective'. Once they ripped the rail lines out and replaced it with an inefficient bus system, it left the road open for cars... That was super generalized, but that's basically the gist of it. You have to have a car because they made public transportation suck..chittydog wrote:
