For the past few days Ive been getting a lot of pop ups through Internet Explorer, never used Internet Explorer except when I downloaded Firefox. Im running Vista and now when I hit Ctrl Alt Dlt there is no longer a option to bring up the task manager. Also, I keep getting messages that programs are crashing and windows wants to check for a problem, Im not sure what these programs are as Ive never seen them before, I hit cancel each time. I have AVG Free and it keeps picking up Trojans and all kinds of stuff, I delete it each time but the problems keep coming back.

Any advice?

Thanks, downloading. Does malware come through email?

Malware can come through email.
Malwarebytes is your best bet at present, although the virus might already have blocked it.

most of your Anti virus programs are falling ridiculously behind in terms of what is out there today, especially norton with that pathetic GI joe/ KImbo slice commercials. the min you look for updates and download them the chances of you getting a virus is 50%.  my advice is run away from internet explorer. period. try firefox, which i have used for many years without a single problem. reduces the amount of POP's you get.  if AVG fails try kasperky, very pricey but its reliable in my book. norton, chugs too much your system and does no justice for the poorly optimized vista OS. a hacker out of nowhere deactivated my norton firewall a few years ago. not preety what he left behind.

SpySweeper (AV) and malwarebytes can get rid of anything when used in safe mode with networking.

Mbam doesn't always get everything. I had a nasty rootkit last month that only combifix could clean.

Problem seems gone, I got my task manager back, computer is running at normal speed again, and no more pop ups.

Re-read my post. I'm running AVG and I never use Internet Explorer.

Scan scan and scan again, these things have a habit of lying dormant.
