I could probably grow a beard, I can't afford the time off work.uziq wrote:

I had 3-4 days of not shaving to kickstart my Movember moustache and I guess it was OK.
That was a thing of wonder, I went for the 'squadron leader' and after a month I'm sure it could have conducted a sortie and shot down a brace of Focke-Wulfs by itself.
One thing I hate is goatees and worse those stupid little chin-tufts.

Do they ever look anything other than stupid?
Goatees look dumb enough from the front, if people could see themselves from the side what would they think?

If I ever have to interact with someone who has one all I can think is "what the fuck are you thinking?"
On the one hand kids need to learn to collaborate, that was not part of my learning.
On the other they need to actually learn, from what I can see they aren't.

The United States condemns the sanctions imposed by the governments of United Kingdom, Canada, Norway, New Zealand, and Australia on two sitting members of the Israeli cabinet. These sanctions do not advance U.S.-led efforts to achieve a ceasefire, bring all hostages home, and end the war. We reject any notion of equivalence: Hamas is a terrorist organization that committed unspeakable atrocities, continues to hold innocent civilians hostage, and prevents the people of Gaza from living in peace. We remind our partners not to forget who the real enemy is. The United States urges the reversal of the sanctions and stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Israel.

Its not entirely a bad thing, it should probably be in the power mix, but if it means Australia can never politically disagree with America then it would be a bad thing.
Aus probably does need nuclear submarines, but we need them 20 years ago, not in 20 years time, and they need to be nuclear armed or there's no point.
Most likely in the next 20 years there will be systems which make them wholly obsolete, swarms of underwater drones, networks of sound and magnetic sensors on the seabed, satellite radar etc.
China did use the excuse of MH370 to scan the seabed off WA.

The only point of the defence deals signed by the liberals has been to lock Australia into lockstep with US Republican thought - step out of line and we switch off your defence.
Aus does not need Abrams tanks, F35s, nuclear submarines in 20 years or nucular power, we need other systems and now.
If Trump cuts AUKUS that would actually be good news, then we can buy British or German or French or Japanese submarines now, long range strike aircraft, drones etc etc.

Oil prices rose sharply on Wednesday amid concerns of a potential confrontation, with Brent crude, the international oil marker, jumping 5 per cent from its settlement level on Tuesday to $70 a barrel in afternoon trading in New York. Prices moderated on Thursday morning in London to $69.25 a barrel for Brent.Dilbert_X wrote:

OK, first of all I identify, for investment purposes, as jewish now - so cool it with the anti-semitism you nazi.
Secondly, we've discussed already how your per-schlub carbon emissions are higher than mine.
Thirdly, I've never actually worked on a weapon system, so there.
Having worked on umpteen projects which unintentionally kill people I would like to one day work on a system which intentionally kills people, for balance, so I can be a well-rounded engineer, or something.
And yes it really is soccer-moms making unnecessary journeys in monster 4x4s who are delivering excess CO2 to the environment.

I'm guessing Americans don't like 'shock and awe' when it happens to them.
Well, when Lyndon Johnson thought it was the Egyptians he was ready to nuke Cairo, when he found it was the Israelis he went back in his box and made the whole thing secret.
Yes, the jews chose Palestine for the convenience, not the history.

Of course not, see above. Also calling them prisoners will be a serious offence, punishable by being put in a pod - which isn't a punishment.should pod-prisoners be wary of having their real-life water forcibly extracted from their bodies while they're in the middle of an important errand in their pod life? mummified alive while trapped in vr.

what if someone from your targeted demographic doesn't want a pod life? is there an enforcement wing of various world pod departments and ministries? are you podded at gunpoint?
Certain groups will be rounded up, put into camps, deprived of food and machine-gunned from tanks as they queue for food, they will be able to voluntarily enter a pod at any time if they choose to entirely of their own free will.

This is socialist talk - enjoy the rest of your life in a pod.how about we redefine what makes a worthwhile and contributing life instead? i think the time of basing your value on how much money the wealthy elite can extract from (or beat out of) you has long since curdled. even the greatest generation was jaded and tired of being exploited by corporate executives.

Maybe we're in the proto-state which lead to the plutocracies of pre-revolution France and Russia
In the same way we could, if we tried hard, have magical self-repairing machines which run on water and sunlight and turn C02 back to carbon, we could probably have some sort of organic self-replicating robot which can think for itself and solve real-world problems - with enough R+D.

You keep droning on about how great democracy is while ignoring that it consistently delivers terrible leaders and terrible results.
Trump, Johnson, Brexit, Hitler etc - are these indications of a working system?
If a machine consistently produces shit an engineer would look at whether the input is shit, the operation is shit, or the machine is shit, or the whole idea in the first place is shit.
Shit input - does it make sense to let peons decide what happens by majority vote? Half the population is below average intelligence, does letting them have a say in things make sense? See Brexit.
Shit operation - should people unqualified to be in government - through ignorance, stupidity, corruption, greed, being jewish etc be allowed in govt?
Shit machine - most democracies have shitty systems which don't really work, first past the post, wealth and corporations buying seats, appointed second chambers, no barriers to corruption etc.
Shit concept - is there actually a lot of point in having a govt which costs a fortune, spends inefficiently and does not represent the best in interests of the country as a whole?
So we're left with testing patriotism by firing people out of tubes or a council of altruistic STEM megabrains, such as myself, who can either cooperate without a President or who can elect the best of them to lead, such as myself.
Once climate change really gets going there's going to be no realistic alternative if humanity wants to survive.
But then it doesn't and there we are.

I can confirm that there are engineers out there who are not as smart as they think they are.
For my company's highest profile project they picked the dumbest engineers who've fucked up everything they've touched so far.
Four manufacturing trial runs later, which is three more than it should have been, the product still can't be manufactured in a way that ensures it can be taken out of the box and used for very long. In fact if its left in the box its just as bad.
For another product they had a large corporate event, people travelled from all over the world, each was loaned a product for the day and, uh, half of them wouldn't switch on and work.
OTOH It is funny how people get bent out of shape over a cosmetic scratch on something which is going to get hammered to hell over its life.
I know I do.

Multiple people have been injured after a man shouting "free Palestine" tossed Molotov cocktails at a gathering in support of Israeli hostages in Colorado, authorities say.
Police said eight people - aged 52 to 88 - were injured in the attack at the Pearl Street Mall, a popular outdoor space in Boulder, about 30 miles (48km) from Denver.
The FBI called it a suspected terror attack and said the suspect used a makeshift flamethrower, Molotov cocktails and other incendiary devices.

Do the whole MDMA and Psilocybin then move on to a steady dose of Ketamine.
What? There are so many permutations.
