I've never had major issues with BF2. I enjoyed the hell out of the demo, and each patch since the original has altered the game, but not really better or worse, just different. I enjoy it! It doesn't have the gritty realistic feel of PoE2 but it's still good, solid fun.
2142 just fails to win me. It feels like Battlefield for noobs. What's this, a cool sci fi aircraft, only the pilot only has one weapon, and it's virtually impossible to do anything other than fly around in lazy circles!
Topping the scoreboard in a bf2 jet is exciting. In 2142 I did it and was like ".. eh?". I didn't feel like I had to do any *real* flying. I don't want a jet-copter with training wheels, I want something I can throw around when I need to.
Or hey let's put in a massive mech, like in that cool game about warriors who piloted mechs, what was it called, mech .. something ... *shrug* anyway let's have those, but instead of giving these expensive, complex machines a worthy swathe of 8 - 10 hardpoints how about they have some pissy chainguns and some unguided rockets? that sounds COOL!
Or how about make a hover tank, only it's exactly the same as a normal tank in every respect except that instead of having a rotating turret, it can strafe and cross water! That sounds awesome! What was that.. in world war 2 ... tank destroyers? when the turret doesnt rotate it means you can give the tank a much more powerful main gun? Oh no, just use the same gun as a normal tank!
Or how about we give the tanks a massive sniper scope! That would totally rock! Let's get rid of whatever this stupid other thing was "coaxial machinegun" .. that doesnt even sound like a real thing!
Let's bring back massive ships like 1942 had, people liked those, only now let's make it so there are only 2 of them in the whole game even if the game description mentions hundreds! Let's also make it so that you can't pilot them except by clicking on a location! Also instead of giving them decent weapons, let's keep the ONLY missile that can damage them on the GROUND, AWAY from the vehicles! That makes much more sense than giving a Titan a weapon to defend it from other Titans!
Hey how about inside the titan, have a massive reactor that for some bizarre reason suffers a chain reaction if bullets hit it? Let's put a whole lot of energy fields around that and make it so if you shoot a computer console, the shields break! Just like how at a bank if you shoot the ATM the vault opens! That's a convincing game feature!
How about we remove all the kits from BF2 and make it so you have to get unlocks just to play as the same kits with the same functions as BF2?
How about instead of being creative with the sci fi we just use a whole bunch of cliches? Hey I bet in the FUTURE muzzle flash will be BLUE because BLUE is SCIFI
..
OH you were asking people NOT to bitch about 2142. My bad. It's a good, well-thought out game with no design faults at all. Yup. Dandy.
The air vehicles have been nerfed because jet whores were making life hell for the rest of us. I do think they are way too simple to operate now, but I have been raped by J-10s one too many times to think they need an improvement.
And what... mechs with 10 hardpoints? They are supposed to dominate the battlefield, but if they went that overboard, mechs would be the J-10s of BF 2. They're supposed to be big and powerful, but a bit vulnerable. Mechs which are half of what you suggest they should be would break the game.
A, tanks CANNOT float over water. I tried that, didn't work. Go do your homework. B, we're talking about a GAME here, and games sacrifice reality for fun. Nobody would play BF 2 if the USMC gear was half as good as R/L (because then they would own everything). C, yes, they did get tanks to float, even in the ocean, but not that many of the floating tanks hit the beaches of Normandy. Even today, the closest thing you have is clumsy, large floats which leave a tank terribly vulnerable to a guy with a rifle (boom, deflate the floats, there goes your tank!).
D, the Nekomata hover tank does not have a turret because its strafing ability basically gives you the same effect of being able to go one way and shoot another (you can even face your front that way, giving it an edge over the tracked tank). E, the coaxial machine gun was removed because of tank whores. In BF 2142, you can no longer singlehandedly own everything, like you could with APCs, tanks, jets, or choppers in BF 2. This way, you actually need co-ordination to fight worth crap.
F, the Titans are NOT BF 1942 ships. Bad analogy, when the Titans are the whole object of the game. G, it would take all the fun and strategy out of the game if you could just line them up like medieval men-of-war and broadside each other. This whole, "Take the silos, shoot down the enemy shield, pod onto the enemy Titan, destroy the consoles, and breach the reactor core" thing is to make a fun, exciting, and pretty unusual mode of play, combining elements of Conquest and fortress-assault. Your criticisms of Titan mode are completely groundless.
H, the unlocks force you to specialize. I don't know how you feel, but I think that this customization stuff allows you to play however you want to play. You can play assault as either basically a clone of BF 2 assault (just get underbarrel rockets and smoke), or as a medic (smoke grenades, defibs, Adv. M-Hub). It means some newbie can't just jump in and have all the fun, they have to earn their stuff, and discover the niches as they go. And besides, defibs, claymores, C-7, defuser tool, the EMP mines, basically most of what you're missing from the BF 2 kits are tier 1 unlocks, and you can get any particular unlock you want by the time you've got 200 points.
Finally, EA/DICE didn't go full-blown Sci-Fi because they knew it would alienate the BF 2 crowd. Blue muzzle flashes... I wouldn't bet you money that we can already do it, because I pity you and I know you would lose. 99% of what they have is already feasible with current technology, something which stands for some generic future invention (who knows, maybe the Active Defense will stand for something like the Russian Arena tank defense system), or is just some assumption you take for granted because it improves gameplay.
And who doesn't like blue muzzle flashes? Anyone?
Overall... your ENTIRE arguement was baseless, given that I was able to point-by-point take down your arguements. And you sound like a n00b senselessly bashing EA when you haven't even looked up the facts.
