Much of the resource required to successfully release a patch = testers. You can pay two programmers £25-30k each, but without loads of testers (bear in mind BF2 is a 64 player game!) it's got fail written all over it. I.e. it is usually not the case of "pay a couple of programmers and that's it".

I barely ever get killed by the gren launcher so I don't really care. Back in the day when the GL had the blast radius of an atom bomb and 99.3% of people played assault, now THAT was some shit worth complaining about. But those days are over. Half of the time I just jump when I see someone about to fire a GL, and they've got to hit perfectly to get the kill. Even at close range, most people will miss and, as a result, get a face full of my bullets. Even if they do kill me, compared to some cunt spamming 20 grens into a spawn point/alleyway/flag, it's not a bad way to go.
I do recognise that the GL nerf didn't solve the 2 foot shot problem, but is it honestly worth getting annoyed about? It definitely takes skill to operate the GL at anything approaching mid range, too (a different skill to aiming a crosshair more or less directly at a target and firing)

Pretty much spot-on, IMO.People get upset when they die from GL hits because they can't handle the fact that they chose the medic kit on the basis that it is overpowered, yet still they lose. They are thinking "Wtf!? I pick the easiest kit with infinite health and a G36E, yet still you have the audacity to kill me? I AM ENRAGED!!!"
That Chesley B "Sully" Sullenberger III guy would rape the shit out of all of you.
trepid_jesse is the best I've personally seen, though he doesn't play much, if ever, nowadays. Plus he's got the coooooooooobra power.
Yeah that's high quality programming.MysteryJake wrote:

Some guy on Jolt city maps. He TKed me with a fucking stupidly placed claymore and it caused me to CTD. Doesn't get much better than that, does it? Fucking BF2.
The best counter to people who strafe in the air then prone is to wait until they do it, then do the exact same move yourself. Their first burst is nearly always wasted on trying to hit you while you're in midair, then you land and fill their face full of lead.
The notion that players back in the old days had more skill is generally bullshit. I see people claiming this in near enough every game I've played. In reality, the skill level gradually increases across the board. If you transported the current best back 2 years, they'd have 2 more years of playing experience over whoever was playing at that point. If you learn new tricks and keep improving (even slightly) for a few years, you will be better than you used to be. People don't magically become worse at a game just because they didn't play it during its 'prime'.This is when the best players played, the game required the most skill and 90% of 'good' players now are only good because all the high skillerz have already left for greener pastures
To illustrate this point:
I used to play in a dominant TFC clan and we had a reunion match for a laugh. Most of us hadn't played TFC in a good 1-2 years. We played some middling top league team (for their league position, it was the sort of team we would've dominated about 150-0 when we were active) and were lucky to draw with them. They had a few new tactics we hadn't seen before (despite us thinking nothing would've changed), some new tricks and the skill level was generally higher than it used to be for a team at that level.
Given a few weeks to get back up to speed I think we'd have won, but the average skill level amongst the top players was higher than it used to be when we were active. It's only natural that as strategies, tactics and tricks become widespread, everyone learns them more readily. Of course if our clan had continued for those ~2 years we would've been better than them, but the point is that we didn't continue, and the world doesn't stand still when you decide to stop.
It's pretty funny when you get any kills soloing the blackhawk considering the splash on the cannon is tiny these days. Nice video overall, but if I had to say one thing it would be lay off the colour correction a bit -- it makes it really hard to see what you're shooting at in a lot of clips due to excessively bright skies.
Man, that was ridiculous. It seemed to account for bullet travel time, bullet drop, lag and enemy velocity etc. Grudging respect to whoever programmed that (even if they are a bunch of cunts).RegMan wrote:

Have you tried turning your sound off to see if it's a sound card/onboard sound problem? (disable it in device manager temporarily then run BF2)
That was hilarious. I love the fact that you're just standing there chilling most of the time, but everyone is so focussed on the revive frenzy that you become INVISIBLE.
Haha, that's a perfect illustration of what I'm talking about.

Fuck wireless. Real men use Ethernet. shout the appropriate number of 1s and 0s down the phone line.
Why separate them? The control method is immaterial -- all that matters is the end product. If you can't hang with the best joystick pilots, buy a joystick and remove the barrierG.Cronin wrote:
should separate the 1v1 nd public with m&k and joystick! im well up there in the public m&k tbh
I get the impression that some pilots are truly happy with using M&K and don't care about it, whereas other pilots use it as some sort of self-imposed cross to bear. "Yeah I did pretty well, but I couldn't beat the guy because I was using M&K".
Best pub pilot I've flown with was hemohes222. He flew all jets on all maps and made some huge scores. He sold his account quite some time ago, though.
^ What he said. I just think it's funny that some people will die doing the same thing again and again and again and again. That's all.
Indeed.
Advantages of proning:
In short, I don't see why people habitually prone every 3 seconds. I admit I used to do it a lot back when you could prone, crouch and keep firing, but ever since that disappeared there's very little reason to do it anymore (long range shooting aside).
Advantages of proning:
- Slightly improved accuracy
- Smaller profile (Somewhat cancelled out by point 3 below)
- You can shove your head in walls to reduce the damage taken from grenades (read that on the tactics forum a good while back, useful tip for when you're getting spammed in a tight area and you have no chance to run )
- Static. Can't react fast enough when someone unexpectedly arrives or retreats behind cover, leaving you totally exposed. I'd say 9/10 times in a corner versus prone battle, I beat the proner. The only time they win is when they get an instant kill with their first burst, or I get the random 500 meter LMG spam death. Most of the time it's just hello, one burst, back around corner, come back around and finish them (this has the added bonus of deviation settling in between bursts ).
- Can't shoot when getting up, so if you get caught out at that point, tough.
- Makes your head 1/3 of what a sniper can aim at when viewed head-on. Even crap snipers can take advantage of this (also see: Static)
- Makes an easy AT insta-kill (even when you think you have time to get up, you probably don't )
- Aiming advantage isn't that great versus crouch for most kits
- Forces you to aim upwards at close range, making it harder to aim at point blank enemies (who will probably jump over you and shock paddle your buttocks for the lulz). It's easier to keep track of enemies on the level without having to look up and down, especially if there's loads of targets and you lose sight of the rest of them.
- If you have to fight multiple opponents at close range simultaneously, you're probably fucked because you're lying there like an idiot giving the second guy an easy kill. One person might get outgunned by a static target, but two people most likely won't.
In short, I don't see why people habitually prone every 3 seconds. I admit I used to do it a lot back when you could prone, crouch and keep firing, but ever since that disappeared there's very little reason to do it anymore (long range shooting aside).
Oh man, imagine having Robin Williams as your commander. He'd just go off at some 100mph tangent while talking to the squad leaders and then never come back. It'd be the first ever successful votekick in BF2.TheAussieReaper wrote:

Is anyone else consistently amazed at the amount of people who seemingly cannot stop themselves from proning? I've been playing on Jolt city maps (vehicles server) most nights for the last week while I've been on holiday, and a significant proportion of my kills as infantry have been massacring helpless proners. Not the kind who lay down for some long range, fairly safe shooting. The kind of player who, after spotting you, immediately dives to the ground regardless of the situation/range/weapons.
Some people will even fall prey to the same trick 10+ times in a round, or (seemingly) indefinitely. I show myself at a corner or from behind cover, then they prone, then I blast 'em. Rinse, repeat. Begin to wonder who many times you can exactly the same thing to the same person before they figure it out.
Anyone here suffer from CPD?

.. it's really not that hard once you learn how to angle the chopper & compensate for bullet drift
That video was amazing.
They're fairly foggy (nothing like as foggy as Songua), but they're not bleak -- they're all quite bright. Songua just feels dreary so I don't want to play it.Karkand, Dragon, and Sharqi are pretty damn foggy, and I don't think that ever stopped anyone...
I loled. Fog is really depressing. I like maps with decent visibility and warm lighting. IMO the primary reason nobody wants to play Songhua is that it's so fucking depressing to look at, plus the visibility is non existent. This map basically looks like it's going to have the same problem.Cheez wrote:

The map looks good and is significantly better than anything like tampa, though I hope they reconsider the lighting setup. I know that maps like Songhua with bleak lighting have a lot of atmosphere, but they're depressing to play. I always prefer maps with a brighter outlook (even Karkand's orange is nice and warm) and better visibility.
Regarding their J-10 tweaks: I'm not really convinced. The problem with the F-35B is simple: For the average pilot in the F-35B, making one little mistake is as good as being dead. How is reigning in the J-10's manoeuvrability going to help in this respect? You only need a few seconds to kill most F-35B pilots when flying the J-10 -- manoeuvrability doesn't come into it a lot of the time. Lock, fire, dead F-35B. Reducing the manoeuvrability of the J-10 will help the experienced F-35B pilots escape lock after the first round of flares and then start to dogfight, but I doubt it will change the balance on the average pub server considering that they're not changing the F-35B hitbox & most people don't know how to flare in the F-35B.
For people like Oakleaves & co. who can flare effectively in the F-35B, it'll definitely be a good change. However, the average F-35B pilot doesn't know this stuff and never will.

Just about to hit 24k
lol.. any time I used to play on US east coast servers with ~120 ping, I couldn't hit shit. I can hit plenty with 25 ping, though. BF2's hitreg is fucking balls at times, but are you seriously suggesting you'll get better reg with 100 ping compared to 0 ping?Moist.Niek wrote:

I finally got myself a "you hack" stalker. Took 3+ years, but I guess I inadvertently pissed someone off. This guy has been calling me a cheat constantly for the last week on EA DE Pornostars. He can't fly, chopper or play on the ground very well, but he's really good at engrish.
I mean, what the fuck? It's like someone is insulting me through a really stupid version of Babelfish.
sou = so
wher = where
donlop = download
hach = hack
chit = shit
ha = ?
ai = ?
dony = don't
hau = ?
What's really funny is that he just loops in one direction in jets and never checks behind him, so he gets the F-35B missile spam every time then whines like a cunt. The more he whines, the more I hunt him to make him bitch more. RAGE QUIT MORE.
I guess he's a friend of the admins because they never say shit when he's constantly spamming "arnie cheat" messages, but the moment I tell him he is a failure and sucks balls at BF2, we get told to stop "chatting". I've played on that server for eons -- much longer than him.

It would've been fairly simple to find a happy medium IMO. Instead it got the nerf stick.
My way would've been something along these lines:
With those things in place, it'd make the blackhawk more than worthwhile to use, but only with the right balance of kits (maybe 2-3 engineers, one medic, two support guys), a good pilot and some decent gunners. Plus it would still have vulnerabilities regardless. Man, those BH days on Mashtuur were so much fun...
My way would've been something along these lines:
- Reduce cannon splash/spread a bit and don't let it penetrate so easily. One sweep of the minigun used to wipe out about 4-6 people in the MEC chopper, lol. I also used to just spam it at flags in the distance and get random kills now and then. It was ridiculous.
- Make the miniguns heat up much more quickly. You can (and could) fire them for absolutely ages before they overheat.
- Make the guns run out of ammo and require a support player to reload them every ~x seconds and/or require the chopper to go back to a helipad every x minutes. I don't care about realism -- it would be mainly to force some people to play a kit other than engy, thus limiting the repair-fest in the back that can keep choppers up (though this isn't such a big deal these days). It would also stop people cannon-spamming and make 'em concentrate their fire on visible targets.

I see arty & server crash hacks on almost a daily basis nowadays. In fact, it seems to be rare to get a sustained period of BF2 in without some dickhead ruining it.
I love the fact that even if you're a good shot you've somehow got to apologise for having good reg... Yeah it's frustrating to see someone with awesome reg, but it doesn't really detract from the skill they have IMO. Just enjoy the video and pray for a better internet connection.
... which suggests a lack of strength and direction on their part. I agree that the bitching from certain sections of the BF2 community didn't help, but ultimately Dice is the arbitrator -- they choose what goes into a patch, not us. They should've listened while filtering out the noise, then patched it accordingly instead of taking knee-jerk steps.
Moreover, I would say that a lot of the bitching was directed at genuine balance issues (BH power, C4 chucking, Noob tubing). The trouble is that Dice then patched the problems in a cack-handed way, creating new ones in the process. They got some things right but a lot of things wrong.

It's fucking annoying, but it happens to everyone at some point.ramming with air vehicles
Oh no! A CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY, TOTALLY DESTROYING ALL ENJOYMENT FOR THE SERVER PATRONS. Err. No.Flying over the Uncap
Fine in theory, but in practice it gets it wrong. Especially when someone takes an AA missile after flying back into an uncap., and attacking the uncap
Piece of shit.
Quite a few of the cheats in BF2 are made possible by game bugs (see: PID spoofing and commander hack), which is why they have to fix the game. PB made a few updates to 'catch'/'prevent' the commander hackers, but it's just a plaster stuck over a gaping wound that is the game. It's a joke that it's taken them about two full years to fix the commander hack. I bet it'd take a few days to get re-acquainted with the code base and then about half a week to comprehensively fix it.they have actually focused more on fixing anti cheats than fixing the bugs lol
Auto admin (or admin map, whatever you want to call it) eats shit. I've been kicked for FLYING over a base, never mind shooting missiles that eventually end up hitting a jet as it enters an uncap while they're high-tailing it away from me. It's a joke. I would encourage all server admins to use their fucking eyes instead of lazily installing that piece of shit.
Two of the servers I used to regularly play on now run with auto-admin and I haven't set foot on them since.
My list of death:
#1: PB kicking me for random bullshit like "client not up to date" lately. My client is up to date, you arse candle.
#2: Admin map / auto admin that is set on "pedant mode", which results in you being kicked for breathing in AND for breathing out.

Is this meant to be a joke or something? I don't understand...
You can prevent that from happening most of the time if you take a short pause after shooting before re-scoping. I know it happens sometimes in a totally random fashion due to lag spikes, but that's a decent workaround in the meantime.
Nice kill. I did something similar once, except I tked our own jet when he flew right in front of us as I tried to TV a chopper
I thought that was one kickass video.
Might contain the world's greatest sniper but I'll never know because I couldn't see shit.
I thought it was good. Nice job.
Jolt City Maps spotted!
I assume the OP is a joker, because this surely can't be serious...
I wouldn't even pay 20p to get my stats back. Know why? Stats are worthless.

lol, that's true. One of my friends got PID hacked & reset. He didn't care, but a few guys constantly accuse him of cheating solely because his account got reset.
Just had a fairly amusing time on the 2F4Y airmaps server. Some guy in the mig spent about 10 minutes trying to shoot me (F15) down on Cleansweep. I kept alternating my altitude and then pulling a loop starting from ~450, hitting the top at 850, flaring and then stratorunning. He got very frustrated and repeatedly called me a "stalling nub" which was blatantly not true. I'm guessing he just refused to take the chance to top out his loop in case he stalled and so he just assumed that I flew off to the moon. I'm a bit of a one-trick pony in jets when it comes to dogfighting and I know I'm not a great pilot, so of course I'm going to play to my strengths when I'm getting chased by a fighter.
He has a v.2 account name so I guessed that he is probably some wannabe pro whiner. To annoy him I said "it's called stratorunning, noob" knowing that he likely knew this. He spent another couple of minutes slagging me off for no reason. He finally shot me down after nearly a full map of me doing exactly the same thing to avoid his missiles, including a few times where I had two missiles behind me but I managed to shake them. During that time I got behind him a few times and got a few missiles on him, but didn't manage to take him down (sob, sob).
Now, I managed to get the F-18 (a jet I hate) and tried to shoe him in the cock, but it turned out he was actually a decent pilot. He got me a couple of times, then he killed me F-18 versus J-10 on Daqing two times, so fair play: he's obviously better at dogfighting than me because I can't do shit in the F-18, but he killed me using it. After that it was one way traffic on Daqing because he had a fighter and I could only get the bomber. After he was killing me regularly he stopped typing abuse at me, so I guess he was just frustrated on Cleansweep.
Anyway, the moral of this post is that wannabe pro chimps really ought to hold their tongue because it makes them look like crybaby dumbasses, especially when they're being thwarted by a 'no skill pub nub' flying the second most hittable jet in the game. If it bothers them so much, they should just stick to 1v1ing on wake. I used to see exactly the same sort of people playing CS:S and nothing gave me more satisfaction than using the autoshotty on them because I knew it'd make them boil over and rage quit
His name was AkaorcramV.2, btw. Good pilot, but christ, shut up already.

I've seen that before, but I was under the impression that PB might not 'like' it...
Unless it's officially OKed by PB, I'd be cautious about its use.
