But as soon as I connect to a server it crashes to desktop.

Reinstalled  and repatched twice.
Deleted BF2 Cache folder.

Specs:

Mobo: GA-P35-DS3R
CPU: Q6600 @3.5GHz
RAM: 2GB @1000MHz
GPU: 4870 1GB

OS: Vista 32bit
Latest drivers (8.12)

I get the message "This game has only been tested on WinXP(32bit)" before I install, but is that normal for Vista?

I've only ever played it with XP, so do I need to do anything different with Vista? (I've tried "Run as administrator" with no luck.)

Is it when you have finished loading and click join? What does it do when you try single player?

When i failed at OCing, mine crashed as soon as i clicked "join" (or finished loading, can't quite remember) for MP, and in SP it crashed after a minute or 2

could be it?

Its allways fun to reinstall this game with all its expansions and maybe something wont work.
I had plenty of problems and errors but THIS game can surprise me from day to day

With Multiplayer it crashes as soon as I join the server, but with singleplayer it loads and crashes after verifying client data.

is your pc overclocked?

Yes, the RAM is normally 800MHz and the cpu is 2.4GHz.

I could try setting it back to default but I don't see why it would make a difference?

is it a stable overclock (i.e. have you stress tested it to make sure it doesn't error, evar)

if it is, then meh

if it isn't, reset it back to stock and try

i have netgear too and shitty ping to the router

Infact if i was wired i would probably only have about 20 ping max (mine's minimum of 36)

Tried updating drivers?

Mine also d/c's ALL THE FUCKING TIME

Try google for "BF2 vista fix"
Thats usually how I solve my problems
(also: you have to patch BF2 all the way to the latest version to have a chance at it working with vista...)

I don't have time now (bed time =3)

Try manually installing and updating PB, I've heard this has been a problem.

Also try turning texture detail to low in options.

Try right clicking bf2 icon > properties > compatability > run in compatability mode for xp (sp2)
I know fucking karate
