Feel free to vomit. This is CNN.
BARF! And that sums up what America is dealing with in order to change it back to the way it was before these fools started opening their mouths.
Truly a sickening find! +1

Yeah... In certain areas of the country, being an atheist is about as shunned as being gay.
Thankfully, the people I work with who know I'm atheist are pretty tolerant. Religion doesn't usually come up in conversation, but when it does, I don't challenge their beliefs and they don't judge mine.
Basically, the only time I challenge people's beliefs is when they specifically enter a debate about them. If they want to discuss religion on that level, then I'm willing to logically defend my position and listen to theirs.
Ironically, I try to use the "golden rule" (a Christian principle) in dealing with touchy subjects like this. Respect is important for the functioning of a free society....

That is one of those times I'm happy that I am in free falling, moral free, islamist europe. What retards. This whole "my religion is better than yours" thing is driving me crazy. Who cares what someone believes (or doesn't) in?
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

Ok i've stayed outta these threads long enough.
Do you guys wanna know why atheists are being discriminated against like this? 2 reasons .First in the deep south when someone puts up a religious display Like the Ten commandments or Nativity scene who come's into town wanting it taken down? Yep the Freedom from Religion Foundation. Everywhere they go they piss off people by filing lawsuits to keep church and state separate they want everything of religious identification taken down. These people call them selves atheists but really they act more like anti-theists.
And Second. Secular policies are being introduced into society which is misinterpreted as Atheist. Not because it's easy to blame it's because Atheist's have no belief system and people confuse secularism and atheism with each other.
In Short: Atheists get a bad rap like muslims because of the actions of a few who use their belief's or disbelief's as an excuse for their actions. And there are no people in the community to denounce it. They are too scared to do so for fear of being shuned by the rest.
Guy's I'm a catholic and i dont care what religion you are as long as your a good person.

What would be really cool would be a set of check boxes on the new post page, which let's you tag one or more major areas (e.g. politics, religion, environmental, terrorism, crime, immigration, other...), then add special subforums based on the tags, so that posts can span more than one subforum. That would stop any debate about "grey area" posts.Kmarion wrote:

But that would be a shitload of dev....
Personally, I worship beer.
Hey, I agree. I'm an atheist that sees this stuff too. I don't care if you put up the Ten Commandments in a courthouse. I just don't want religion to be used as a basis for legislation.David.Podedworny wrote:

Basically, it's possible to have religion in public life without having religion and state unite. That's a subtlety that seems to escape many atheists and the ACLU.
On the flipside, I also hate it when religious people make a big deal out of things as well. Why can't both religious and secular people be more chill and rational about things?
Ok, the problem here is that the one confusing the whole issue is the CNN, not a regular dude. This is a news network, or at least should be.David.Podedworny wrote:

Because of human instinct Which whether you believe in god or nature gave us to survive, Which now is leading to destruction of humanity, Why can't people be friends with each other regardless of group or affiliation? Because it's in our nature to discriminate to make things better for ourselves and our group.(Sounds funny coming from a christian does'nt it?)Turquoise wrote:

Thank Atg for this.
I kind of understand. I'm not atheist, I'm Catholic...living in the American south. In high school, I got told I was going to hell on a weekly if not daily basis. Yay intolerant Baptists.
(No offense to Baptists. The ones at my college are much much nicer to me.)
Edit: Oh yeah, the topic. That is some pretty bad reporting. They act 'super Christian' but I thought the Bible had a lot of stuff on tolerance and kindness toward your neighbor. I guess most modern day Christians have forgotten about Christian discrimination: Jews, Romans...

It makes sense... I don't believe in your religion, but I do agree with many Christian principles and the general assessment of human nature that Christianity makes. I don't think people are naturally evil, but we are naturally selfish.David.Podedworny wrote:

Thank you. See why cant the rest of the world be more like us? What i dont get is this how come we 2 people with probably 2 opposite belief's come to agree on something and others cant do the same. I mean the Muslims and Jew's are so similar yet they fight. Over land? Gimme a break there's plenty of it to go around we catholics have a claim to the holy land but we wont kill for it, we have Rome and thats good enough. So why cant the muslims and jews split jeruselam? I mean the muslims have mecca and the jews have really nothing other then parts of germany(Before christianity germany was judaism's second holy land but hitler destroyed the temple's and synagogues which dated back to 200 b.c.). Is 2000sq ft that worth killing over?(I'm talking about the temple mount next to the wailing wall)Turquoise wrote:
