I don't think it would be, for an official answer just PM Chuy or another admin. It shouldn't be though, because if you wanted that hack all you would have to do is google it. Also after reading that blog it is good to know that those hacks are easily detectable.
Sad news, but at least we finally know what it will take to get rid of the hackers. So now that this mission can pretty effectively be labeled Impossible, we can now feel free to just talk about hackers in general and what your thoughts and solutions are to them.Umbra Acciptris wrote:
Beeing a computer professional myself, honestly the only effective ways to stop hacking would be illeagle. First you would need to run a CRC check of all files in the BF2 dir. Then you would have to scan each users active memory randomly during play (which is illeagle). Even that would only stop people using a single machine to hack. People using a dumb humb and a 2nd machine to recive and decode packets are still 100% untraceable.
You may not like them, you may stop some of them. But thier is no way to stop all of them.
not to be a nay sayer. Belive me I hate game hackers. What is the point? To prove that you are better than some one else, if you have better tools equipment, and put more time into it? Hell every time they die they should feel like utter crap. Yes you got killed by some one who is just 80x better than you, you truly do suck.
But if you do in fact still come up with an idea of how to beat them, or limit their powers in some way, then do not hesitate one bit to post it!
What does that go to show? I have a server on Counter Strike: Condition Zero, kicking someone from a server doesn't do anything. All that does is make them see that the people who are in that server do not believe in instantly banning, so they will mark it down and be sure to return. When you see hackers it is a must to instantly ban them, no ifs, ands, or buts.cougar wrote:
We did have a guy doing the Commander Hijack bug and he was promptly kicked, which just goes to show...
See, the way you have to look at it is if they have one hack, and most definately that 2nd Commander hack, you can only guess as to what other hacks are in their power. It is to my knowledge that the Commander hack is one of the hardest out there, and some people don't even believe it exists, if they take the time and effort to use it, then there is no way that you can safely assume that that is the only hack they have and that when they come back in after you kick them you will surely be able to recognize if they are hacking or not.
Most hacker are very easy to deal with because the hacks are so noticeable. It is when you get the more advanced hackers on your server that you cannot make a just call. Anyone who plays/played Counter Strike knows what I'm talking about here. The first hacks out for that game were so terrible you could pick them out from a mile away. Nowadays though a lot of people are leaving the game because the hacks are so advanced that all you have to do is deny you have them and that's it. They are so hard to spot that admins cannot make a just call because it looks just like normal play.
I fear that is how BF2 is going to go as well, I am not looking forward to BF2 2 years from now...
Excellent news, now let's keep the ideas coming population of BF2s.com!
Excellent idea. I myself have never experienced any problem with hackers first hand, and I do play on good servers. The problem there is that most good clan servers are usually packed. I don't know about you guys, but sometimes I spend 10-15 minutes at a time just double-clicking on a server until that lucky click comes where a person just so happened to leave, then I'm in and I'm good to go. That, however, takes time and meticulous effort, not to mention endless patience. I just want to help EA help us. Honestly, you can't expect the folks down there to want to learn anything themselves about hacking, so if we do their homework for them there is a possibility that they will comply.SlickWRX wrote:
The biggest problem are deadbeat servers. These are servers that have no admins on to keep an eye on things and check Punkbuster screenshots when something seems fishy. The hackers know about these servers and stick to them. Find a good clan server to play on.

It's a great idea if it would ever actually work.
Emailing: Emailing EA about hackers will do nothing; sure some customer service person might read your email and pass it on to someone, who'll then pass it on to someone else, etc etc. and in the end it'll get deleted. Don't believe me? Try emailing them for help or with a question. It's an automated reply and they tell you to go look at the FAQ page.
That is why this would work if we just got a badge, an electronic badge holds no monitary value and would come at no price to EA.Jester.retseJ wrote:
Amnesty Program: Turning in hacks for a reward. Ha! Sure they'll reward you. Because you know how much companies love giving out free stuff. Don't believe me? Try getting a rebate for something you bought. It only takes 6-8 weeks for them to send, if ever, and by then a new hack will be out.
Wrong thread, we aren't here to complain about hackers, we are here to try to make a change.Jester.retseJ wrote:
Hacking in general: I think people complain about this too much. Not everyone who manages to shoot you is hacking. Not everyone is out to dos attack you or flood you off whenever you happen to be lagging. Most gamers are just out to play the game, same as you. And no matter how good you are or will be, there will always be someone better. Accept that.
We can make an effort to assist them, trying to make a difference is better than sitting around waiting for the day when hacking will be obsolete, which, of course, will most likely never come. I could have never made this thread and we all could have just sat around and did nothing, or perhaps, ranted about hackers and how bad they are without making any difference. I am not gauranteeing that by making this thread and submitting anything that we will make a difference, however, being the nonconformist that I am, I am in full support of standing up for what you believe in.Jester.retseJ wrote:
Am i saying there are no hackers? Of course not... i know there are. However it's not our job to find these people.. it's Punkbuster's and EA's. It's their responsibility, by making a game that uses an online ranked system, to make sure the playing field is fair. The only way to do this is to constantly update versions of punkbuster and BF2 and force the hackers to constantly update their version to stay current. Will EA/DICE/Punkbuster do this? Of course not, so what can we as players do?
Whew, now that that is done with, I just want to say that I did not post all of that in any offensive manner at all, just as your post did not come off offensive to me. And I do appreciate you coming from the other perspective and voicing your own opinion.
Could we get a list of known hacks out there? Not just assumed hacks because you think someone had a health hack because you didn't kill him, I want people who actually know some of the specific hacks out there to list them, whether they know from a friend or whatever, let's get a list.
I don't know about you guys but I think a special badge would do a lot more good than bad, people will respect you because you've helped make a better gaming community for the players as a whole. The thought of being bullied didn't even cross my mind.
Also, reporting a player's hacking activity could prove very effective but first EA has to know all the hacks to be able to do this. I agree that it would be much more efficient though, no harm comes to the person accused of hacking, he won't even know he is being scanned by EA, and if he is clean, it's all good. But what happens when the player comes back in and the same player who reported him sees him, and he reports him again, and again, eventually the player either stops sending in the complaint, or EA tells them he is clean, or he eventually believes the player who tells him that he isn't hacking, and then all of a sudden the accused player starts actually hacking. The person who reported him won't report him again, and it would be up to other players to report the hacker, but a lot of players either don't care, are too young to figure out how to hack, hack themselves, or don't even speak English. I think the global monitoring from Punkbuster would be the best way to go.

Depends how long ago you were playing, before the most recent patch you could have that crosshair dead on and still miss, it has happened to me dozens of times, that's why I stopped sniping. If you actually did hit and know you hit by seeing the little x on your crosshairs to verify then maybe he had a few medpacs tossed by him by a medic._|x|ake|x|_ wrote:

That doesn't mean anything.splixx wrote:
The hacks they have out right now are lame. Night Vision is worthless since they have skins. =/
Now, hacking as we know it in this game isn't at the point where it's dominating... yet. Those of us who play/played Counter Strike know just how hacking evolves, and if you take a look at CS, almost every server has at least one hacker join in it every day. (By the way I was inspired to make this thread from the "any former counter strike players?" thread)
I think we need to put all of our minds together and figure out ways to help EA help us by beating the hackers. Now no offense to EA, but for all we know, the folks down at EA might have one dude who says he knows about hacks hired to keep Punkbuster updated. The only real effective way of beating the hacks is to learn from the hackers themselves.
My idea is for EA to put out a trade-in kind of system. Where you send them the files needed to run the hack, and tell them how to set it up, and if it is a valid hack that isn't in Punkbuster already, they give you $50. Or if EA doesn't like the idea of paying people, they can easily just make a few tweaks so that those who turn in hacks get a special badge that no others can get... how cool would that be. I would say they can throw in an unlock as well, but then everyone would be backstabbing others to get their working hack sent in and it would just be a mess, a cool badge would be worth the bragging rights to me.
How do you all think of my idea? What are some of yours?
If we get enough good, solid replies on this I'll pick out all the popular ideas and send them into EA.
P.S. I had some comments up there about Counter Strike, lets try to keep this a BF2 topic only and not fall back to talking how bad or good CS is with or without hackers.

Yea it's like the first pretty accurate support gun, and the burst is very helpful. Plus it looks damn fine! That is going to be one of my next unlocks.
Amen. $30 guys, honestly, and vid cards are dirt cheap. I got my GeForce 6200 256MB GT OC for about $120 brand new. I can handle any game out there, granted not on the highest of settings, but I can handle it with minimal lag on minimal settings, for games like this, minimal settings is still better than most other games on the market.warco3 wrote:
The new SF weapons are the equivalent of the original unlocks. Some are great, some suck, and overall none of them are completely superior to any other weapon. The flashbang is a great addition to the original game, although I'm sure it probably gets overused. Regardless, I think the changes are all for the better. And for you whiners and cheapasses out there, quit your bitchin. The game is only 30 bucks, you get 8 new maps and lots of new stuff to play with. Why don't you want that? STFU AND BUY THE FREAKIN EXPANSION ALREADY!
Did you try checking for driver updates?heretic wrote:
When I bought the game I knew my vid card was the last to make the list in terms of qualifications for BF2 but how does that justify increasing the graphics level that is not adjustible to the end user ? And released in a patch to boot !?
None. That makes no sense that they would include a graphical enhancement to a game that was already very demanding. I was running fine from the day of release until now. I don't care about having shinny textures on everything ! I want to play the damn game and enjoy every moment of it.
When the hell have you ever bought a game only to realize 5 months later your game is now incompatible with the system it has run on perfectly to date ? I like alot of EA titles but this is getting really sad. I don't blame EA or Dice for this problem. Nvidia can take the hate on this one. What better way to boost video card sales then to fk over the people that have not purchased one of there products for over a year.
So, as it stands for me now I need to spend at least 130 bucks for a decent GPU then spend another 30 for the expansion. Don't forget that BF2 played great for me until the 1.12 patch.
My final decision ? I will upgrade and get the expansion. Soon ? No not for a while. BF2 will still be popular by the time I throw more money into my PC.
FK U EA, DICE, and Nvidia for allowing me to enjoy a great product then deciding that you need more money. Unlike alot of you people I just don't spend as much on my pc. Overclocking did nothing to help remedy the problem.
PC Specs
AMD 64 3000+

Gforce FX 5700 256 mb
I knew the card was going to be useless by 2006 but to have a game not work well after it did... fkers
Well, SF is as coolbeano said, more of a 1 on 1 game. So to be able to play SF with any hope of being competitive start off by dominating the regular BF2 scene. Sounds a lot harder than it really is. I just go a 24/7 Karkand server and nowadays I get gold pretty much every round just by being a Medic. And most could argue that its easy considering the small spaces of Karkand and the grenades and all the dead bodies, but they're the ones who have never tried it themselves. Anyway, once you get good at BF2, then you should be a pretty good shot, step it up and go to SF.
BTW my favorite map in SF is Warlord, because it is pretty much a Karkand varient.

Haha, I know I just came on here to post my dumb mistake!mooncricket wrote:
deadlast, the awards you recieve in Bf2:SF do not show up in the recent awards menu of BF2. You have to start up SF to see them.
HAHA and I just noticed something from having to log into my BFHQ... My "Progress towards next rank" bar is actually working for once!!!
Here is the screenshot, I put a little red box around the two most recent awards to make it easier to spot.
For a second there I was a little worried that it was the server I was playing in and not the website. I thought all my extra points were for nothing, but they're all there. Also within like the first 5 rounds I managed to get every badge besides the sniper, including the extra ones that require using the hook ten times etc, just by playing, not even trying to get the different badges. I look on my BFHQ section and it's good to know my points are all there. But at the bottom where it shows the latest badges it shows my most recent as a Gold Star, which is probably accurate, but I can't see the images or even what the other two most recent were, they are just blank grey squares. At least I know that the new badges are registering somehow, even if they are just blank squares, I'm just wondering now when EA is going to update its own server... I can post a screen, I'll do that in a little bit.
I guess they were all empty because my game was glitched, then one of the new patches must have got the feature working. Thanks all.
That can't be it though because when I first started playing those 3 bars were empty and as I played the game more the bars continued to fill.
I circled the area in question. I have no idea what those three bars mean. I only want an answer if your really sure that it's the right answer because I've heard dozens of different people tell me different things.
Now, I have this gun and I have never found anything profoundly astonishing about it. I use it whenever I am a medic, and yes, I do have success, but not near as much success as some of you talk about having. I mean, yea, its accurate, but to get accurate shots off in Semi-Auto you have to wait at least 1 second in between shots to make sure they hit, giving a potential victim plenty of time to take cover, which means you move on and just hope that you get the kill damage assist.
Ok first I'm just going to comment. The G36C has got to be one of the best unlocks available. It has INSANE accuracy, you just have to get the hang of the sights. Here's a trick I use to find the accuracy of most guns, pick a wall about 20 feet away from you, and shoot a burst of 3, then move to the right and shoot a burst of 5, then move even more to the right and unload a whole clip. Go back with a diff gun and do the same, compare the results. It is best to do this after you Create Local in the Multiplayer section because then it is just you and a WHOLE LOTTA room. After comparing results the G36C Blows the other SO guns away in accuracy.
Secondly, the DAO-12. Ok, this gun just kicks the shit out of #1, the Jackhammer, and #2, the standard AT SMGs. One big advantage that everyone forgets about this gun is that it reloads like a shotgun. I mean, you just CANNOT look over something like this, this is what makes this gun. Guns that reload 1 bullet at a time instead of entire clips just wreak havoc. Honestly, with this feature you gain the ability to reload whenever you want and not have to worry about wasting ammo that might be left in the clip in a standard gun. Aside of that, this gun has 12 round magazines and packs 48 rounds in reserve.
Now, on to my choices...
(Best) PKM - Without a doubt, this gun is absolutely godly if used on the appropriate maps. I mean, honestly, this gun isn't going to do much if you use it on a map like FuShe Pass. Use it on CQC maps such as city maps like Strike At Karkand or Mashtuur City. There is only one map where this gun shines though, and that is Strike At Karkand, which IMO is the best map out there, it's all I play, and if you share my love of this map then this unlock is for you. All you have to do if you are USMC is make a rush anywhere in any corner and then unload if you are really close. My favorite choices of places to camp with this gun (since it is a camping gun, and if you try to say otherwise you might as well spare us all the stupidity and hassle of having to correct your ignorant remark) would have to be on the rooftop that overlooks the passage that runs along the front side of the Hotel spawnpoint. Chances are you are playing with veteran players like myself and we know all the tricks, so that will only work for so long. If that fails, move down to the passage itself and try to climb up the ladder to the rooftop where you can just run and jump into the Hotel flag area. You will have no problems claiming the flag while packing a PKM, believe me. Now, if you wanna be really cheap, you can always spawn at the Upper left base and run along the mountains till you get to the little courtyard that is just outside the metal fence that lines the road. follow the fence to where it meets the building and pitch your tent.
(Worst) Mk3A1 Pancor Jackhammer - For me, it doesn't get much worse than this. I mean, this gun has a 7 round clip which goes out in about 2 seconds if you unload. Now, some people like this gun, I am not sure why, but the only thing I am sure of is that this is the worst unlock out there. If you didn't catch it, I said it has 7 round CLIPS, thats right, CLIPS. Now, when you use this gun, you NEED all 7 of those rounds to make sure that at least 2 of them hit their target. When you bring down someone and have 2 shots left, you are left with a bitter choice, reload, and waste 2 rounds, or try your luck and see if those 2 shots hit their target bring the next enemy down. Now, if you choose to not reload, those two shots are in all seriousness all you got, there is absolutely no way that you will be able to reload without the enemy killing you.

Alright I honestly don't want to read through all of this, I read the first page. I'm just going to put out there that it took me somewhere between 10-15 minutes to get the Basic AA and Ground Defense badges.
Also, this isn't so much of an error as it is a pet-peeve. In the Ranks section shouldn't 2nd Lieutenant come before Sergeant Major of the Corps in the list. I mean, it makes no sense to follow a pattern of min requirements-max requirements and get all the way to the last two and put the one that is the grand-daddy of all badges before the badge that takes 50,000 less points to aqcuire.
Also, Sergeant Major of the Corps says it requires Master Sergeant rank, shouldn't that say 2nd Lieutenant?

It's how far the bullet goes off from dead center. As long as you know what deviation means you could have figured that one out. :p That is what it is supposed to mean, but I'm not exactly sure what units they use.
