I missed the option to bombard planets from orbit, up to the point were nothing but scorched earth remained, they had in Star Wars Rebellion. THAT was a great game!unnamednewbie13 wrote:
Star Wars: Empire at War Gold
4/10
Pluses: Fun music (it's Star Wars, it's hard to fail with that), cool space battles. Still needs a jukebox, but the music selects itself well enough. +10
Minuses: Grinding land battles with equipment that never really saw the light of day in the film, grinding land battles, more grinding land battles, and a buggy Forces of Corruption expansion pack that I have never been able to get to work on any computer. You'd figure that after this long an official patch would've corrected the issue that I and so many others face. About the grinding land battles again...yeah, they just don't capture the spirit of the thing for me. Battle for Middle Earth and even War of the Ring did a great job there, but EAW only seems to offer a moderate improvement over the relative clumsiness of Force Commander. -6
Meh: Campaign mode. From the surface it looks like it's turn-based (between battles), but it's set to timer. Seriously, who wants to manage a galactic empire on a ticking timer? They didn't expect you to do that with either Total War or Ascendancy, so why EAW? But I can't really mark it down based on that, since I only do space skirmishes (to avoid land battles).
Best hl2 mod out in my opinion
