Right now you should consider an ATI 5770. It's supposed to be pretty decent for the price and it this one has a 6 pin power connector. The price/performance is good and should be able to run all of those games on all high. Even my 4830 can run most of those on all high, and the 5770 is even better.

The GTX 260s that I've seen on Newegg have been around $180+.

Also, here's a review for the 5770 for L4D. All high 2560x1600 the GTX 260 beats the 5770 at 106 to 82 fps. The GTX 260 has more power, but also consumes more power.

No I haven't played demigods, but I heard it was alright.  Ars Technica had a pretty positive review on it but they said the experience was ruined by the amount of pirates overloading the game servers on the first couple of days.  I haven't checked up on it though.

League of legends is basically a more cartoony version of HoN.  It has completely new characters and items but the graphics are not as pretty.  It has no anti aliasing and I would say it needs a bit more polish to the graphics.

Also, I have a couple of invites to HoN.

EDIT:  League of Legends also is more Battlefield Heroes ish.  It has a client that launches that lets you find games and when you go into one the fullscreen one displays.

It's pretty fun.  The problem is that the teams I get on always fail hard.We should make a group to pwn people.  I'm alright at it.  I play Antimage/Magebane and Chronos.

I'll look at Savage 2 but between TF2, this and maybe LoL, there definitely wont be any time.  I still have to finish prototype and Medieval total war 2.

Does anybody play these games?  They are basically newer, prettier versions of DotA.  They're all in closed beta so I can't post any screenies.  Their facebook pages should have some though.

I have a beta key for Heroes of Newerth, and it's basically DotA.  The items are all DotA items with new art and stuff.  The Champions are all DotA hero remakes.  The overwhelming amount of choices in champions and heroes make it a not very newb friendly game.  Either way, it's still fun if you have a good team and it supports in game VoIP.  There are still around 31k invites available as of this post from this facebook promotion.

The manual doesn't have anything like that.  It just explains what to do, and the various software that came bundled.

I'll double check the power, and I don't have any machines with DDR2 support or any DDR2 memory laying around.  Kinda sucks.

EDIT:  I FAIL.  More like my monitor fails.  The cable is REALLY loose and it keeps on unplugging itself.

Hey BF2S,

I just got my first build and finished building all of it today.  When I boot up it isn't posting and is giving a beep code.  Also, somehow my monitor doesn't really work.  The light doesn't turn orange when I push it, it only flashes orange and nothing else happens.

For the monitor, it's a 22" Acer monitor.

My beep code is 2 short beeps, the site says it's some sort of memory error.  I have tried each stick individually and it still beeps.  Also, I have a fancy LED on my board and it stops when it reaches 85.  Don't know if that helps or not.

I just found out about facebook profile photo "hacks."  It's not really a hack but more like changing your profile photo so that it's more unique and bends the usual rules for profile pics.

I've compared that board to the Gigabyte they're about the same.  The only major difference is the audio chipset.  ASUS has a VIA VT1708s while the Gigabyte has a Realtek ALC888.  So...would you mind explaining why the ASUS is better?

So I finally convinced my parents to give me money to build a computer and my maximum budget is $900, but my parents would like for me to not spend all of it.

My question to you is, with all of these new things coming out and more price drops, should I wait a while and build or do it right now?  I want to be able to game in the summer, so that kills the idea of waiting for i5 and windows 7.  ATI is supposed to release rv790 in March which will hopefully lower prices on other cards.  Also, is going AMD right now worth it?

This is my build so far.  It adds up to around $706.87.  I forgot to add home premium so it would actually be $806.87ish..  I have a keyboard, mouse, optical drive, and a 17 inch monitor.  I'm looking to do some medium gaming, homework, and watch movies on this computer.

Fun stuff playing with a friend today.  Got some ok kills.

But they really need to add a sell gun parts options in the game.  I just found out about the camo and I want that.  Also I got the tritonal, which is a completely crappy scope.  Instead of having crosshairs, it has this image of a body with a big red circle in the middle of the screen.  But, I guess this is what I get for not previewing the scope beforehand.

This a pretty good game.  It's way better than Soldier front, and better than combat arms.  I like the weapon customization idea...hit reg is pretty good so far.  Graphics are bearable.  I'll join trackr clan when it comes out.  Haven't tried sniping yet, but it should be fun.

So what kind of weapons are the best?  I'm using an M16 and that's pretty good.  I like it, not a lot of recoil and you can kill somebody with a short burst.  It's also pretty precise.  I'm thinking of getting a sniper next.

Like the topic title.  What kind of gum do you guys like the most?  The Trident Tropical Twist is pretty good because it's fruity and it lasts for a while.  I also like 5 Gum and Stride. 

This is all based on personal opinion but oh well.  Also, please say why you like it.  And maybe pics.

Well, I downloaded and installed it.  This is the default desktop and shortcut icons.  It uses around 20KB of RAM.  And Shock3r, I blanked out a Facebook window...also I have heard of tabs but I'm too lazy to use them.

Sorry for the horrible looking desktop and shortcuts.  This comp only has 512 MB of RAM and customization will take up too many resources.  Once I build my own I should be able to make it look better.

I don't like the site navigation.  Took me a while to figure it out.  But basically they have lists in the row of circles and stuff.  I took a screenie to help.  They have 2 free themes, a Crysis Warhead and Sony Ericsson.

Pretty common scenario. A little bit more backround would be nice though.

How old are you, how close are you and your mate, is he the jealous type?


I'd say go for it. If he's a close mate, he'll probably come around, or understand. May not be at first, but will come around to it.

Also leaving friend zone, going to girlfriend zone is common too. The easiest way is to ask her to a social event with a bunch of common friends, or a party or summat. That way you can get to know her better, talk to her outside of school etc. You could just go straight for the kill, just ask her out on a date, but for gods sake not dinner and a movie. Or you could be subtle and talk to her more often, get her phone number, text her, whatever. That will move itself.

Whoa.  That's pretty good.  I am 15 and my friend and I are basically really close.  I guess he will accept it eventually.  The three of us (me, my friend, and her) are all really good friends but I would say he is a bit closer to her than me.  I don't have a cell phone (really sucks to be me) but it would still be a bit awkward calling her.  Also, she doesn't have texting either.

I have been browsing this thread, so I know I don't exactly want to sound needy because that will totally ruin it.  That's what my friend did when he was desperate.  He admitted he liked somebody to a person, and it started spreading around.  Eventually it was almost impossible for her not to find out and I think it was too late by then.  He admitted it to her and I think he got that "instant eww" thing.

Ok I think I should give this a shot.

I like this girl and she's in one of my classes.  I'm in the "friend" zone and I don't really see how it can progress to the gf zone.  Also, my best friend also has a crush on this girl.  I've known him for a long time, been childhood friends and stuff.  He has admitted that he likes her and tried to ask her out, but some bad timing problems and other things screwed that chance up.  He still hasn't gotten over her and is still trying.

This obviously is a pretty bad time to like her right now.  But we both know that we like her so it seems like it's just a matter of who gets her first.  Do you guys have any advice?

Yeah I played it again this afternoon.  Really awkward running around as a scout and trying to backstab everybody.  But I did get some good ones.  I just dont like how you cant be precise with your attacks.  They need to add a lock on feature or I just suck.

I played it on the PS3 a couple of days ago.  It's alright...but the maps get kind of boring.  Also, it might just be because I'm not used to the game, but the melee combat system is pretty bad.

I'm going to be recommending the Antec 430W to them.  80% efficiency and its the last day for that deal.

Anyway...now I just need to test the limits of these integrated graphics.  It played combat arms all low alright.  I could make out people and kill them.  But the map loading times were still too high.  I can play warcraft 3...I guess I'll just play oregon trail after I finish Fallout.

Ok then...I think the graphics card is drawing up too much power so it isnt POSTing.  Everything else starts up fine, CPU fan starts running, same with graphics, hard drive starts spinning.  Just nothing on the monitor.  I'm going to take the card out and try it again.

I also just noticed this...the PSU does not have a 24 pin connector to the mobo.  It just has a 20 pin.  Stupid lame PSU.  Can't post pics b/c I cant find the camera.  And this is on a different comp.

I'll think about getting a new power supply...it just depends on my parents.

That's what I'm thinking...it's over 2 and a half years old and stuff.  I have a really old multi meter but it still works...so where would I put each probe in the power supply to test the 12v, 5v, and 3.3v?

EDIT:  I'm starting to look for replacement ones just in case.

I was thinking about getting the Oregon Trail.  I remember playing it in elementary school but never finishing it.

Also, my sister tried turning on the computer earlier today but it didn't POST.  Nothing showed up on the screen.  I wasnt there at the time so I didnt know...but now my mom is blaming me for "breaking" the computer.  I turned it on a couple of times, it didnt POST, but now its working fine.  Do you guys have any idea what is causing this?

It's alive!  Only took about 10 mins to install and put the card in.  It took me longer to find the screwdriver to unscrew the backplates.  First time the computer didn't post because I didn't push the card in the slot enough.  A slight push and a reboot did the trick and I'm all good.

I haven't done any serious gaming, but I shouldn't be able to because I only have a measly 512 MB RAM.  Oh yeah...it's nice not having lag while I watch high quality youtube videos.  Yes...that's how crappy my old integrated graphics were.

Also, I live in Michigan...and there arent any local computer stores that I know of.  I would say my only choice is Newegg because Tigerdirect is usually more expensive.  Hopefully my parents will be a bit more open from this.  My dad ordered a 16 GB flash drive for me from Newegg so there is a bit of progress.

EDIT:  How could I forget?  Thanks for all the help guys.

So I'm downloading the nvidia 181.2 drivers now.

I would uninstall ATI integrated drivers, plug in 8500 GT, boot up to windows and run the drivers from my desktop?
