I thought this competition was just so he could write for the site for fun. But, he just informed me that if he wins, he gets contracted to write for 6 months and gets paid $10,000!
We've gotten about 20 people from this site so far (I think) so let's keep it up!
I only have 5-6 karma points left for today but I'll try to get one to everyone who helps out!

The website I believe is a car editorial site, and each article will relate somehow to cars, but yeah his story was a short story unlike some of the others. Thanks for your help!burnzz wrote:

Hey everyone, hope everyones having an enjoyable, lazy Sunday.
I have a friend who is competing to become the next weekend editor over at Jalopnik.com, and he needs to be in the top 10 for unique visits to "move on" in the competition as it were which ends thursday at midnight (eastern time I believe).
Click here to help him out!
Remember, it's unique visits only so proxy spamming and constant reloading doesn't add to the total!
If anyone could even get some of there friends to click on this too, that would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance everyone for the help!

You honestly think he was attempting to depict true events from WWII? I don't think he ever mentioned trying to do that and I'm fairly sure this story is a work of fiction and only loosely based off of the 1970's Italian version of this movie. (That one as well is primarily fiction with just as much ridiculous battle scenes and plot exploits as this version)CapnNismo wrote:
@Mafia47 - when was the last time Tarantino did a movie about "history"? He's never done a movie that deals with previous, true events. This was his first one. And he failed miserably.
Tarantino makes movies for your entertainment, not so you learn about history. I'm sorry but if you went into that movie expecting to see an accurate portrayal of WWII you're an idiot.
Okay, how about this. It doesn't matter how many movies you've seen, how much you 'know' about the history of film; everyone has there own opinion about the movie(s) and it's fairly obvious that we aren't going to agree. And I'm a bit confused by your last sentence but I don't think it matters because we're just getting way off topic.Winston_Churchill wrote:
Maybe you should try reading what I was quoting. One of the most common 'arguments' (if you can even call it that) is that you need to 'love' movies in order to like this movie. What I was saying is that I love movies just as much as anyone else and still dont like this movie.Mafia47 wrote:

However, I found Inglourious Basterds to be a completely overrated movie. It had maybe 1-2 good scenes. People only like it because its cool to like Tarantino.
Your argument is supporting what I'm saying by discrediting the fact that 'loving' movies makes you more credible to know what movies are good and bad.

The movie was meant to be over the top, tongue-in-cheek, and what were those "1-2 good scenes" you were talking about, maybe the ending and some part with the 'bear jew?' Something. . .Exciting!
Tarantino isn't for everyone because he has such a strange style which I assume you know. He uses witty dialogue in most of his movies to break up his absurd action scenes (Reservoir dogs, Pulp Fiction. . .Okay not so much in Kill Bill(s) and I actually haven't seen Grindhouse)
It's Fucking Quentin Tarantino. . . How and why were you expecting something that didn't shit all over history? When has he ever been accurate to history or politically correct or anything of the sort?ruisleipa wrote:

How can Avatar be overrated? As stupid as this sounds (and I'm sure you've heard this before) it revolutionized film-making. Not only did they invent new technologies to allow on the spot rotoing and compositing to allow Cameron to see his actors in their CG environment and new facial recognition software, but that movie was almost entirely CG, composited perfectly, a step up from from anything else that has been made.blademaster wrote:
yeah still have to see it but I thought that movie Avatar was overrated...Eifa wrote:

Gotto agree with Macbeth tho, it was good but overrated.
And Yes the plot was lacking, reminiscent of 'Fern Gully' at points, but it was still an original story. Like all movies it was loaded with typical plot devices that everyone saw coming, but, it was still entirely enjoyable. I guess though if it was overrated that $250 million + budget is going to barley turn a profit. . .
No it didn't. I sent in for a replacement card so we'll see if that fixes the problem cause it could be my motherboard too (i doubt it though)
I'm fairly sure I tried that already but i'll give it another try.
The thing is though, it's not artifacting at all while booting up or in bios and while in safe mode (as well as when I uninstalled the drivers) it ran without artifacts.
Also I just ran crysis for about an hour with no issues what so ever . . .could it possibly be the 2d processor on the card or the drivers?
Also I just ran crysis for about an hour with no issues what so ever . . .could it possibly be the 2d processor on the card or the drivers?
I read over at the AMD forums that their seems to be a lot of issues with the new driver update and with some of the 5870 cards as well as some of the 5000 series cards. . .A lot of people have been talking about more widespread issues than what mine is doing (more visible artifacting, crashing, freezing etc) So I'm not sure if sending in the card just to get a new one will solve anything if it is a driver issue? But I don't want to really risk it if it is my card.
After uninstalling my drivers and installing the drivers from that link, it runs just like I have no drivers installed at all. . .BTW thanks for your help
After trying all of this, I got the same results. But, when I had no drivers installed, I noticed no artifacting, so it makes me wonder if the newer drivers radeon has for this card are just bad or if it is still the card.alexb wrote:
Install Driver Sweeper - http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/
Boot into safe mode, uninstall the drivers with the ATI uninstaller that's provided in the add/remove programs. Reboot into safe mode again, and run Driver Sweeper, then reboot into normal Windows, and re-download the latest drivers and install them, and let me know what happens.
I'm starting to lean towards the fact that the video card may be defective. Try plugging in another monitor into your computer, and see if the artifacts show. If they don't, it's your monitor.
Anyone know where I can find some old drivers to this card (I'm not sure how many they've released for this though) But I figure it would be worth a try.
I've tried another monitor already but I'll try using the driver sweeper (That's one thing I haven't tried yet)
Yeah I booted in safe mode and I didn't notice any artifacting (although it can be fairly minimal at times all it really is, is green dots on my screen) But that lead me to think that it's a driver issue? But I'm not sure where to go to find a downgrade driver for my card
I've tried everything I could think of, even swapping the graphics card into another spot on the motherboard, same result.
I then tried installing a game (crysis) and running the game to see if the artifacts would be intensified, which actually, they disappeared entirely and it ran perfectly fine at very high settings with no errors or artifacts or crashes etc.
I went back to my desktop to see that the artifacting I was seeing before had disappeared, only to reappear though about 5-10 min. later (probably less time than that)
Anyone know if this could just be a 5870 graphics card problem or driver problem or some compatibility issues with windows 7?

I'll check those, but to me, I don't understand why I would just be getting mainly "tiny green dots" all over the place if it was a power problem, wouldn't it be more visible? But I will check that thanks!
I just recently bought a new computer:
i7-960 3.2 GHZ
12 GB ram
ATI 5870 PCI-E
850 watt power supply
Running under windows 7
Now, my problem is that when I first plugged in my computer, I noticed there were blue and green "artifacts" appearing on my monitor along with, only sometimes though, black lines running across too. Also they move around depending on what window / program is open and their not static in there location.
Now my first reaction to this was that my monitor was going bad or that my drivers were just never updated. First of all, my video drivers were updated, but just to be sure, I uninstalled them and reinstalled them from the disk I was provided with and from Radeon's site, still no change. I also plugged my computer into my dad's HD-TV. I plugged it into both the HDMI port and both DVI ports, still no change.
I then checked to see if the company I purchased the computer from overclocked the card and it was perhaps overheating. It was running at factory settings (I'm fairly sure it was) and it was running at 32 degrees celsius, the rest of the computer is running around 24 c, and it is a well ventilated computer with plenty of fans and cooling so I really don't think overheating / overworking is the problem.
This leads me to think that the card is bad? But I'm not really sure. . .I purchased this computer from cyberpower PC (little sketchy but my last 2 computers from them worked perfectly fine) I'm going to call them on monday but I already know they'll tell me to send it back in which I don't want to do unless I have to. . .
Does anyone else have anyother suggestions of things to try or look into? Thanks in advance for anyones help!

SRV and a smaller band called Back Door Slam
4 Shows in NY
2 Shows in Chicago
4 Shows in LA
Anyone going to any of these shows? I'm hoping that it really isn't Trent's last tour doing NIN music, but, you never know. . . With the presales and general sales to some shows last Friday selling out in what seemed to be about five minutes it does have the feeling as a final tour.
In case anyone didn't get tickets already, public sale is on the 31st for 2 of the NY shows and the 2 Chicago shows and i'm pumped because I live about 5 blocks from the venue they're playing at in Chicago!!

But the only part I can remember is a man at a fridge (a very dark scene, at night time) and somehow he closes the door or the camera panes over to show a rhino (maybe white?) standing there
This reoccures throughout the movie (the rhino) Showing up at different places, one time he looks out from a balcony over a pool and see's it. . .
This could be maybe a dream sequence in the movie or something weird like that but. . . I just remember seeing this movie when I was really little and now I cant' think of it
