I'm not entirely sure if this was the dreaded 1.3 patch's doing, but now almost all of the EA official servers and quite a few others are missing from my server browser. Where before I browsed in the neighborhood of 2000 servers I now only see about 600, and my filters haven't changed in a loooong time. Is there some setting or server cache file that I need to reset in order to get all my servers back?

Licensing for Sony. As I recall Microsoft actually pays a bit to Sony for every Xbox they make though not necessarily directly.SuperJail Warden wrote:

On a whim I came to this site and find the same guys still going at it on the forums after ten years.

I once had the inside doorknob to my condo bathroom break while I was in there for a shower. The door was closed and on account of the fuxed knob I had no way to open it to get out, plus I was alone in the condo so I couldn't ask someone for help. With no tools in the bathroom I took a pair of nail clippers that had a swing-out nail file and used the edge of the nail file as an impromptu screwdriver to attack the screws on the broken knob and remove it so I could open the door and get out.
I made that same mistake once and only once. If this happened then the machine wouldn't boot at all; there would be a short and the board would fry. You need to use a non-conductive part to mount the motherboard to the case, otherwise bad news. The case should come with either brass stand-offs or some plastic clip-like things that go into the screw-holes on the mobo.SuperJail Warden wrote:
I had the same issue before. For me, it was the washers on the screws that connected the Motherboard to the case. They were ungrounding it. Check to see if you have washers there or anywhere else that could be doing it.
The way I've learned to troubleshoot stuff like this is to start removing components one by one until you get the machine to either POST or begin emitting post beep codes (combinations of long and short beeps that indicate what the faulty part is. check the motherboard manual for what they mean). When I say components I mean everything, RAM included. If you have multiple sticks of RAM inserted then remove one, then swap it out for the other, try different DIMM slots, etc. You did the right thing by using a different PSU to test with.
For some reason the images this conjured up in my mind are all of the pics of the Woody doll in compromising positions with that ridiculous facial expression of his. I expected the porno spoof.
Cancerous? Nice adjective.Little BaBy JESUS wrote:
In my opinion CTF is fun on 16 player servers, but was completely cancerous when I was playing on 32 player servers. On the larger servers there always seemed to be 10 people camping the flag with c4.
The bikes are amusing, but there only real purpose is to do a large and fast flank around to the enemy flag and the bugger off as quickly as possible.
Yeah the entire concept of CTF in BF3 seems kind of odd. Isn't flag defense just an exercise in laying down C4 and claymores?
I checked three times...hang on I'll post a pic momentarily.
Hey everyone, in my swag bag from Pax Prime I picked up a card for a free LoL champion and skin. I don't play LoL, nor do I really want to, so I'm happy to give this away to the first person to use the code. The champion is "Sona" and the skin for her is called "Arcade Sona". Maybe this is nothing more than complete crap they give out for newbies but hopefully one of you can actually use this. The code for these:

Thoughts? I played the demo at PAX and this one ended up being pretty much the same. It looks promising but I'm not yet sure I liked the stripped down combat system. I'm really beginning to miss my TU's.
Their absence became especially apparent when I found that instead of being able to "peek" around a corner to see what's there before moving I had to consume one of my two moves to step around the corner, at which point I could either fire or step back but not both...and had I done either I would have sacrificed my chance for overwatch. Or take the example of how moving two steps eats up an entire move, just the same as if I'd moved as far as I could for that single move action.
It's definitely a "modernized" (i.e. simplified) tactical, turn-based game. I just wish they hadn't simplified the combat system so much. I guess I'll have to give it a final verdict when I play the finished game but for now I'm just not sure.

So I have to disagree that fire-and-forget weapons are too powerful in BF3.Evil_Black_Fox wrote:
Fire and forget weapons require near zero skill and should not be in any FPS. Really I dont think there should be a javelin in BF3. Save that trash for CoD computer controlled vehicles. People forget this game isnt real life and try so hard to make it so that they make it not fun. Fun is the number one reason people play games, but lately all Iv been getting is frustration playing this game. Really a faster SRAW or ERYX would have been good enough with a mode that allowed fire and forget on lased targets. But instead we got people hiding up in the mountains spamming javelins and stingers at everything crying like babys because they didn't get their free kill. Javelin should be lethal if tanks can detect the exact location a lock is coming from like real life. Yes the Abrams does have that. Lastly I dont know what dummy though that lasing should work as it does but its all wrong if you want it like real life. Lasing something requires that the beam coming from the center of the designator be exactly on the target, not in the general area. It should be near impossible to track an aircraft with anything other than radar and infrared. You know whats totally fake as well is locking an jet with a javelin. To go even further guided shells from tanks that chase aircraft... really? Who came up with this stuff? Why dont we have bullets that go around corners as well because thats pretty much what that is.Ilocano wrote:

Yes, I'm a tanker. But Javelins should be lethal.
Fun>balance>realism
If I wanted realism I would go back to the Marines, not be playing video games.
One thing I think Dice does do well in terms of game balance is that with the super-powerful game features they require teamwork to be effective. TV missiles require a vehicle pilot doing their job, for instance. Tanks, too, really do need a crew of two to effectively ward off infantry. As it is with fire-and-forget Javelins. It takes a person of an entirely separate class dropping SOFLAM (and actively using it for full effectiveness) to make Javelins really kick ass, and even then a smart tank pilot will pop smoke and render them ineffective if you launch with one. Don't forget that popping smoke to break a SOFLAM lock requires first that the SOFLAM re-acquire its target and then the Javelin user...a very long time! Furthermore if a javelin user goes it alone they need LoS and much closer proximity to get a lock and, at that point, the tank will have a much better chance to see them and kill them...plus the tank still gets its countermeasures. Finally don't forget that your infantry using Javelin and SOFLAM need protection from enemies while they're standing around looking through their aiming reticles. While they're taking aim they're otherwise vulnerable and useless.
I almost think that, to encourage teamwork, they should take a nod to realism and make it so that someone manually targeting with a SOFLAM will render smoke ineffective. If you're sitting there with your SOFLAM painting a target manually then smoke really shouldn't be effective, and you should be rewarded for requiring two people's full attention to make it useful (three, really, if you count the support person supplying ammo). Dice could balance this somewhat by only making it work against vehicles, even aircraft...if you're centering the target in your reticle and properly aiming the laser you should indeed hit your target. Think of the missile launcher from HL2, only one person operates the laser and the other the missile. If you want to balance it further give the SOFLAM system a "battery" that runs out after a certain amount of time and requires resupply.
I just played my first CQ. I sat through all four maps and I can say I'm thoroughly disgusted. There is nothing of Battlefield in this, it's just Quake by another name. Everyone spawns right on top of one another, every action happens at point blank. No strategy, just run around until you see someone, unload a clip and keep moving.
This is obviously aimed directly at competing with CoD and has nothing in it that differentiates BF from all the other FPS games out there. It's disgusting.

Well crap. They just updated battlelog with the premium buy option and the full details. Seems one of the five expansion packs you get for "free" is Back to Karkand, which I already got "free" by buying the limited edition. So now you just get four expansions at $12.50/each, plus all the other "content". I am disappoint.
Good question...I'm not sure. I wonder if they would try and do this for all ranked servers or whether it would be an opt-in thing?Kimmmmmmmmmmmm wrote:

While I loathe the "premium" features (like priority in server queues) I think would pay for this only if it offered a monetary savings on the five expansion packs they have planned. Otherwise I would refuse on general principle.
Your thoughts? Discuss.

True...whatever happened to that being a main property of LMGs and sniper rifles? Seems like you spit at someone and they're suddenly suppressed now. I mean if bullets are flying around you then yes you should be suppressed but wow it really doesn't take much at all now. At least it gives frag rounds some value.
Close Quarters sounds eerily similar to Infantry Only mode with new maps. Sounds like another excuse for engineers to run around spamming RPG's and...otherwise being useless cause there are no vehicles. I think this is a foolish DLC...BF3 is not CoD and it shouldn't pretend to be...it should differentiate itself.
Tron Legacy soundtrack. Damn I forgot how amazing this score is.
Don't you all see what EA is trying to do here?
Fodder for expansion packs. EA = money grubbing. BF3 = cash cow. Here's what's going on:

Who else has seen this come up? I know I've seen (and been killed by) engineers wielding a MG36 or other LMG. Is this an exploit or a bug?
Thanks everyone, looks like going to those maps on Conquest Large was the key. I had no trouble securing a BTR-90 or the requisite 10 kills.

So the better question is which game modes/maps would it be on?
I feel like I should be on a Nature channel show or something...maybe something narrated by Steve Irwin. I've had a hell of a time getting into a BTR-90 to get my 10 kills in it for the Jackhammer. Where in the hell can I find one besides Oman conquest? Specifically I'm trying to determine what game modes/map sizes it would be on.
I got just over 2k "additional points" today after a round...
Speaking of the new guns do you just get them all right off the bat or do you have to unlock them somehow? Maybe by doing those "tasks" things or whatever they have in Battlelog?
What's the added fire mode? Is the M16A4 one/two/three shot burst instead of just one/two? Doesn't seem that great...but because its a pretty high unlock that implies to me that its somehow really good...Doctor Strangelove wrote:
Yes, the only difference is the fire modes.

So far the best deals I've found are at Engadget's Black Friday Roundup. Also the deals on Steam are ridiculous right now. Impulse looks pretty good too if you don't mind supporting GameStop's evil empire.

The one thing that really needs fixing with mortars is being able to deploy/use them within an uncap or deployment area. Those are "off the map" for the other team and the result is you have a mortar it's very tough to get to and kill. I did it one time but it's hard with your vision all screwy, a 10sec countdown and a warning message taking up the center of your screen.
That happened on Seine and the mortar was effective given the deploy area's proximity to the other flag points. They could fix this by just disallowing their placement within those areas as if it's rough terrain.

I don't care if this was the fastest accelerating thing in the world (it's pretty damn quick) but this is forever cooler:
Smoke grenades have always been one of the most under-used weapons...so fantastic for breaking up line of sight. Think of their great uses while trying to breach past the ticket counter in Metro.
I avoid the flashlights and laser sights like the plague. Nothing like one of those - especially a laser sight - to be a big fat arrow pointing to your position.
Yeah padlock view is pretty essential. If they can put your view outside the jet looking forward it must be easy to do the same looking backwards.twoblacklines wrote:

Perhaps they over-compensated for BF2 jets which were way too powerful. BF3 ones seem fairly tame.
