Does it have set values for each item based on the rarity of the block?

Or is it done supply and demand wise?

If anyone decides to dig within about 500M of Exchange, do me a favor and light up the holes/exposed tunnels. Enough output and I can start spilling arrows into the free bank.
You could just use the skeleton trap I built a few days ago... About one stack of arrows per hour.

At most twenty arrows per daytime visit at my spot. I feel like if I have to idle at a trap to get anything, I haven't really done my job in building a proper trap. Besides which, I also get string, bone (e: well, duh) and gunpowder.

And the more local tunnels I fill with torches (I still have quite a ways to go), the faster the thing is. It's pretty satisfying seeing a cloud of mobs getting helplessly sucked up the water pipe. I may have to reconfigure it to allow for endermen, though (good thing I put in lights). Only problem, they can still move glass, so they're better off remaining stuck on the spawning platforms.

Going to build a server store there.  Along with the smaller exchange store you should be able to buy and sell most things.  All balances on the server will be reset once everything is completed.  You will not long be able to use the sell command, but you will have to go to one of the 2 stores in order to sell what you want.

Now why would you go and do that?  Hope you didn't sell anything worth a lot.  When the time comes we can talk about setting it straight I guess.  No guarantees though.

Surely you could do that player to player anyway and it would be more fun cos you could barter
I could do that.  I'll play with it tonight if I remember to.

Also, please remove most of the flaming netherrack on your pirate shit.  You can leave some but not a lot.  Thanks!
But no one goes out there

If you give me some wool that I can use to make sails then I'll replace it
(I'm starting the bartering already!)
I have 2 and a half stacks of wool if you want it.  Just come find me when i'm on.  I should be on all day sunday.

idunno.. I didn't think balances would need to be reset so I figured I'd clear out some chest space and sell some stuff.

I don't like the market idea myself. I think it's going to dillute the value of hard to get blocks. I've mined a ton of glowstone and my toon has the scars to prove it. Seeing it devalued to 'ten torches' is just absurd. 2 1/2 pieces of coal and some sticks? Lame.

The money you get from selling items will be thought out as much as possible.  With the upcoming patch the number of items is going to jump through the roof.  I think the market is a good idea because people can still dig and find stuff to sell and or trade.

I think you need to limit the items that can be sold to valuable commodities like gold, iron, diamond, or lapis. Trade those in for other stuff, sure, but trading in torches or cobble? No way.

Like I said we are thinking this through.  You won't be able to sell directly to the server so that will limit the options right there.  I'm on the fence for dirt and cobble stone.  If I do allow people to sell it they will probably get 10 cents a piece for a totaly of $6.40 a stack.  I know this much you will have to pay twice as much to get the item back from the server.  Sell a diamond sword for a $1000 and you will have to pay $2000 to get another one.

I just think person to person trading is much better. I was going to build a marketplace in the new town I was laying out where people could set up stalls and sell items.

You still can.  Trading is still going to be a part of it.  Remember with the potions and enchantments coming you can't buy those.  You can sell stuff that can only be made my combing certain things.  For instance a golden sword with certain enchantments can increase that odds of such and such happening.  The system should work just fine.

Id say hyper common things like dirt, snow, wood, grass, etc shouldnt even be able to be sold at all.  They're too easy to get and definitely dilute the worth of say diamond/slime balls

I was on hand when some of these test values were thought up. Having thought about it, do think 10 torches to a glowstone does devalue glowstone quite a bit.
