Just bought this game after not hearing much about it, but a couple of friends got it and it interested me.

First off: It's buggy as hell. It's just been released and the multiplayer isn't too stable. There are patches apparently being rolled out every 24 hours, though.

Other than that, though, the game is great fun. You control a little wizard guy and have access to 8 elements, which can be combined together to create hundreds of different spells to use. Controls took me a bit to get used to, but when comfortable you just fly out with the combinations.

Also, the devs definitely have a sense of humour. I cried with laughter at the beginning of chapter 3. Lots of references, too, to loads of fiction. Harry Potter and Highlander are two off the top of my head.

Friendly fire is on, and teamkilling happens a lot. Most of the time it's quite funny, though, and completely accidental. With some spells you can 'cross the streams', but if done at the wrong angle it will create a huge explosion.

From what I can tell, the game has so many things to find out and play with, not just including the spell system.

Only £7.99, I recommend it, but maybe wait for the bugs to die out.

Anyone else got this?

I bought it, but I'm going to wait for the bugs to iron out a bit. Just got finished with Div2FoV, so it's either this or finally finish the Titan Quest expansion.

I'd definitely wait if you're gonna play with friends.

It really is fun as hell, but there are random crashes, freezes, people not being resurrected, areas not changing, lag, connecting to game issues, no lockable lobbies, etc.

Still, even with all that, I love it.

Magicka has exceeded all expectations by selling over 30,000 copies across digital distribution platforms. The game rocketed to the number one Top Seller spot on Steam, beating AAA title Dead Space 2. Read on for more details.

Talking to VG247, the game’s producer Shams Jorjani said: “The reception for Magicka has been better than we dared to hope, watching the numerous YouTube clips of gamers and editors worldwide laughing themselves senseless as they misfire spells left and right as well as the comments on twitter and forums show us people really get the humor and the idea behind Magicka.”

He added: ““Singleplayer and LAN is what most people are currently playing but updating the multiplayer lobby and continuously improving the game is our top priority.”

The success comes despite the game’s buggy launch, with Paradox pledging to patch the game every 24 hours for up to two weeks to eliminate the issues.

I do like that last line. I think I'll pick up the game just for the developers commitment post release.

Take that Dead Space 2. Hows it feel to be fireballed right in the face?

Paradox Interactive deserves the support of gamers for sticking to constant patches for this game like white on rice. Still, they should have considered going through more of a beta...

Picked it up today. Multiplayer is pretty much unplayable right now. I'm not even going to bother until they get a few more patches in.

I like how you can accidentally nuke the NPC's. Random spell mixing and three clouds of red mist later...

If you want to play with your friends, use Tunngle. It's similar to Hamachi, except specifically made for gaming.

Less crash issues, but the lag is still a bit gay.

Also, QFAS for the quickest, strongest attack IMO. Beam or AOE, either works.

Have they fixed the bugs yet? And what's all that about tunngle? Can you not play with friends normally?

A lot of bugs are fixed now. Big '1337' patch coming tonight (1.3.3.7) that is apparently gonna fix some big things.

It was pretty stable the other night when I was on with friends, but if you're gonna be that put off by it, wait a few more days.

2 player co-op works pretty well. With 3 or 4 players it's still quite crash prone, especially if you cross multiple beams. Also there's one spot at the end of chapter 4 where everyone but the host always crashes.

The only NPC I haven't seen horribly die is vlad and that's because he's immortal. nothing survives 4 player co-op

If you don't have people to play this with in co-op stay away, pubs will be unbearable with all the random death

That's not a bug.

It's a feature.

Beams are for people who want to get hammered by mobs. Lightning ice walls are where it's at.

Meh, walls feel clumsy to cast imo

alternate between casting walls of rock and water, and walls of rock and ice in a semi-circle in front of you. You literally cannot lose. (but you will annoy the shit out of noobest)
