Here's a picture of the slide and barrel removed from the frame. The mechanism is actually quite simple. It's basically an AR15 cycling mechanism shrunk down to operate on a pistol frame. Combustion gas flows through a port in the barrel, pushing on the small piston at the front of the slide. The rearward motion of the slide unlocks the rotating bolt from the breech allowing the spent cartridge to eject and a fresh round to chamber. You can also see the dual recoil springs.

I enjoy letting other people shoot it almost as much as shooting it, myself. it's very heavy and very accurate. And very expensive to shoot at about $1.75 per boom. It's definitely the least sensible gun I own.
That's such a stupid gun.. but so magnificent.
