If there isn't one, we need an official Android thread made nowww!
I nominate you to make that thread
Ok so, there's been quite a few threads cropping up recently about Android, Android phones, apps, etc. and surprisingly there wasn't a thread already out there for it.

I know there's quite a few members with Android devices who are quite knowledgeable so if you have questions I'm sure someone will give advice, hands on experience etc

Got an Android phone? Found a cool app? Post it on here so we all can have a look!

Regarding apps:

There's one called AppBrain. You install this free app on your phone. Then sign in with your google account on their website http://www.appbrain.com/

The site functions as an Android Market browser but also you can selects apps to install on the site, and next time you sync the app on your phone it installs all the apps you selected online.

It can also show a list of your apps which is good for sharing like this....

(it doesn't come with a description of the apps normally, I just thought it would be helpful to add one in   I'll also update the OP with this list for reference).

jh0lt's Nexus One Apps

Phone: Nexus One
72 total, 63 free (87%), 9 paid (12%), 72MB total size, $33.87 total price (except the one that takes up like $20 of that price is one I downloaded online lololol)

  • SDrescan - If you're having trouble with pictures not showing up from the camera in the gallery (sometimes the case with custom camera software) this app is very helpful.

Aaah, his thread is phone specific! I think I've found a niche!

About the Milestone...well...any Android phone, Gtalk is just an app, you can get any other 'chat' app you want.

For example, I use one called "Meebo IM" which lets me sign into my facebook chat, msn, aim, yahoo, pretty much any IM provider there is.

True for winmo phones, but quite opposite actually for Android. Android does a great job managing memory (hint: does not work the same way windows does)

Have a droid an love it. Responsive, attractive, easy to develop for
That's true, but if you're running older hardware (like the Hero), you have to take matters into your own hands. I can tell on my HTC Magic (running 1.6) that some apps are not quite as well written as others and just eat memory up. The OS itself can only do so much, chief.

I'll grant you i did not come aboard until somewhat recently. But as for the newer hardware I've never had to kill an app. The meatiest app i run is probably a remote desktop client.

Who here has rooted their phone?

So, I rooted my 2.1 CDMA Hero again.  Now I need to find some good ROMs.  Does anyone know of any?  I want one that has lot of the extras turned off with no HTC sense.

Have a look through this sub-forum on XDA

http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=643

There is a list of all the ROMs in there.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=641

That's a link to it's parent forum so anything related to the Hero.

Good call getting rid of sense!

What a pain in the ass.  Not to many ROMs that I can use to install with Nandroid backup.  I need a bit of help in this area.  I have a rom I want to use but, I don't know how to flash it with Nandroid.
Microwave

Put the zip on your SD card, boot into recovery, perform a Nandroid backup, then go onto "flash rom from sdcard" or something like that and it should do it.
