I think counterstrike was ground breaking. It was an important step forward in FPS's. So was half-life.

As far as in-game potential goes, I'd hand it to GMod. There's virtually nothing you can't do in that game once you delve into the addons like Wiremod.

One could argue that Goldsrc and Source are not all that different, and thus I'd include Goldsrc games in this "poll".

That said my favourite Source game has to be L4D because none of the other can match the amount of time I've consumed playing it, or the fun I've had playing with friends, screwing around, and examining the maps and gameplay mechanics.

Disregarding my opinion HL1 is obviously the most groundbreaking and thus the "best"
