I have to add, if you was watching 'Watchmen' for your typical crime fighting super hero, then you was watching it for the wrong reasons. It's a film about the wider responsibilities of what it means to be a 'super hero' and the fine line between being a force of good and a force of evil.
The film was never trying to be a Superman or a Batman, it's Watchmen, it designed to provoke thought and conversation. Incidentally, Watchmen was written by Alan Moore, who also wrote Batman graphic novels on which the Heath Ledger version of 'The Joker' is heavily based on.
