Asymetrical maps will always be slanted against one side.  Tobruk, Battle of the Bulge etc...  The best initial strategy you can use with that sort of map is to break through the front line, cap a rear flag and spread out from there - the cancer strategy.

I think BF2 failed when it came to support of custom maps but not for technical reasons, rather that the stats system pushed people towards stats-friendly maps.

Jets in BF2 unbalanced the game - they made it based more on a pyramid model than rock-paper-scissors.  I am glad that they had to reload after each bombing run though - imagine the carnage if they had 15 bomb loads like in 1942!

But yeah, the biggest single thing BF3 needs is much better custom map support.  Then get rid of stats.

Every map shouldn't have jets on, we can do fine without jets on a map but having choppers, tanks and all the other vehicles.

Yeah sure jets had to reload but sometimes they where back in 15 seconds to bomb the entire flag area again.

I said this before. Make jets land to reload bombs and LGMs. Then give AT guys stinger missiles as an unlock.

this ,
I mean I'm not a statswhore though ,I was b4 but I am a bit of a nostalogist . like to look back and compare PLUS the reason that the harder it is to achive the ranks and the better your "prizes/unlocks etc." are the more people want to work for them .

Fixed.

Don't believe me? Look at TF2.

And besides, people will always complain about unlocks.

Better not to have them, i guess just have stats measure your records.

not really feasible for the average gamer.
they could make it so it take multiple passes to fully reload (like some maps have accidentally like Wake (chinese) or dalian (again chinese, trend maybe?))
they could definitely reduce the bomber's LGM count to 4 from 20 (1 hit kill for any target in the game with massive splash damage for infantry too)
and remove seat switching to make the bomber and helo crews a teamwork thing instead what they are now.

Make stingers/igla fire up to 4 missiles like mobile AA. Although as a pilot i find the AA annoyingly effective as it stands. If a team actually USES the AA it can level the playing field.

Its still possible to get stats and ranks, via external websites.  There was one (can't remember what it was called) for BF1942 which gave out ranks, awards and I believe even had that stuff sigs for a while.  IIRC it's ranks were based on real-life, only the last months worth of play would count towards them (you have to keep playing to keep your rank), and had unique rank sets for four of the seven countries in BF1942.

Not that one.  I think it might have been bfstats.com, but I can't for the life of me remember for certain.

The fact that a game so incredibly plague with bugs, glitches, patch disasters, and downright royal fuckups could capture so many people and keep them coming back is a testament to the fact that the concept and much of the gameplay of BF2 really was/is incredible.

As Spark just said, there's not a single other game I've ever spent anywhere near the amount of time on as BF2.  What is truly incredible is that as a whole, I hate online FPS games.  I even hated BF2 when I first played it because I didn't understand the concept of it.  I'd never played this kind of game before, and I didn't get the point.  There was no single player campaign....and for that, I thought the game was stupid.  I shelved it......until a few weeks later, I tried playing it again out of a sense of guilt (my mom had bought it for my birthday, and asked if it was fun).  After I gave it a little time I started to get it..... it grabbed a hold of my face, and my nuts.....mashed them together.....and henceforth owned my life for a good period.

same for me, i thought it was a fairly mediocre shooter compared to, say bfv or 1942 or cod:uo (back when cod was actually really, really good), but then there was this one round where i played as engi in a blackhawk squad. that was good times, and opened my eyes to what this game was really about.

i actually got switched near the end of the round... the last thing i did was fire one eryx at "my" squad's bh, which promptly exploded (this was back when the bh hitbox had an insta-kill point near the front wheel).

good times.

Hey spark, if you still play 42, the 3FL server (formerly iinet) is still going strong.

If they fixed the game I would most likely get back into BF2. To this day I can't find a game that can replace BF2. Its either I find one where I get bored after 20 hours of game play(COD series, L4D1/2, TF2, etc.) or I just don't find it appealing.

Actually they shouldn't even have tried to fix it. After seeing the results of their fixes, they should have left the game untouched. BF2 was a much better game before the clusterfuckery of terribleness (yes, clusterfuckery of terribleness) known as the patches.

You said it trashblind.

The game was better when it had more glitches and less balance.

A few positive changes and a couple of glitches fixed in a total of about 8 patches > A ton of unwanted gameplay changes that simply didn't work and ruined the game + some new glitches.

Nice logic there, chief.

Also, balance ? LOL. The RPK74 disagrees with you.

it scares me even to this day that an epic game, that allowed me to play for 18 months (2005-2006) has been reduced to a pile of shit. i remember the days i used to play in ROX , Code Blue Battlefield =CBBF= and A2G servers, man those were the best back in the day. as epic the game was, it also had huge ass problems. probably too big that EA did not have in mind how to make things efficient in terms of their programming. the stats system, weapon unlocks, map design and vehicle usage was ahead of its time. unfortunately the very things that made this game soo damn freakin awesome, killed the game.

glitches, hackers, the shitload of people that teamkill for the stupidest reason to the point i want to slap the shit out of them, administrators that kick you out because u stole their helicopter in ghostown, Crash to Desktop, spawnkilling, insane loadtimes, patches that made things worse and so on. i got my best friend to play along with me, and some other people.

i buried my BF2 CD knowing i will never every play a online FPS that epic, awesome, and enormous for a very long time . I was hoping EA would not make the same mistakes when they made 2142...... they failed again. I played BF2142 for a good 6 months, it had excellent concepts and ideas to it. Unfortunately the execution was horrible. BF bad company's structure brought back reminants and memories of BF2, but no other BF game can eclipse what BF2 did..... a huge rise with a huge fall.

cant dwell on the past so i moved on.... to Call of Duty Modern Warfare 1 and 2

Only 18 months? D: This has been the only game I haven't uninstalled and stopped playing since I got it in 2005 (I've had to reinstall it or install on another system...) Right now the only other games I have installed are Audiosurf and Trackmania. My stats are meh and may say I haven't played in a long time but usually I have played with friends on mods or on LAN. I love BF2 and even with all of the frustrations that came with it I still love it and just laugh at all the glitches and other problems it has/had.
