A leaked advert has unveiled plans for a limited edition of Battlefield 3 that will include a “Back to Karkand” map pack as part of the deal. Players who buy the standard edition of Battlefield 3 will have the opportunity to buy the map pack as DLC after the game’s release.

CVG spotted the ad, which advertises the Karkand map pack, which looks to contain maps and guns from Battlefield 2, remastered for Battlefield 3 and the Frostbite 2 engine. The blurb on the ad says “The themed expansion pack features four legendary maps from Battlefield 2 boldly re-imagined with Frostbite 2 physics, destruction and visuals, completing the package are classic Battlefield 2 weapons and vehicles, unique rewards, new achievements/trophies, and more.”

The advert also mentions that the map pack will be available to buy separately as DLC one month after Battlefield’s release, which is set for this Autumn. Pricing details for the limited edition will be revealed in late February, and the game is available to pre-order now. As long as it takes place in modern times like BF2, and improves on some stuff, I'm looking forward to it.

yeah cant wait hope it polishes on some of the stuff bf2 was lacking like u are able to take trees down with bombs and so on, and after u drop the bomb u leave a crater...also I hope u are able to throw the knife at the guy... or throw a weapon at him once u run out of the ammo...or pick up a rock and throw it at the enemy if there is one near by... also they should have some stuff where u are able to customize ur guy, like pick. diff uniforms and such or buy them at least or have a site where u can download diff. ones if you get certain amount of points. But yeah customizing your guy and his weapons, armor would be

Because they don't have any pictures of BF3? It was confirmed in a conversation.

Well, they have done lots of shitty things in the meantime, right? Not that I have played any of them mind you.

I am quietly optimistic, but I have been playing games a long time and I know how things usually go in the games industry. I won't be surprised if it's shit.

I am looking forward to BF3 only if it takes all that was good in BF2 and improves on it leaving behind the exploits and bugs. One thing is that since the MEC army was invented, maybe a US faction should be invented to prevent people from questioning realism such as the USMC having things like the F15 and A10 which we do not.

I dunno, I mean they're already releasing BF:BC2 which is in essence a modern warfare BF game with all the shiny frostbite stuff, for them to be developing BF:BC2 and a BF3 for the PC seems kinda pointless but hey, why not

As long as it stays arcade like BF2, yay! If it tries to be the next reality shooter (CoD like) I won't be happy.

Omg.

I mean we all knew they must be working on it at some level, but sheesh. It's so different seeing it written down like that.

I agree. I love the arcade-iness of it, just makes it all the more fun (so long as people try not to take it too seriously *cough* PR tards).

I'd say late 2010/early 2011 would be a good estimate
