Well, the Governator has a budget.
https://latimesblogs.latimes.com/photos/uncategorized/2009/02/19/lamebudget18pg_500.jpg
It used to be the ultimate penalty of the state was death. That was limited to the convicted offenders. Now there seems to be a collective punishment. Mind you ( I couldn't find a link ) that the state has hired 57 people per day, seven days a week for the last ten years, doubling the number of state employees. Like Obama, arnold used fear mongering and scare tactics to strong arm as deal that involves few actual state job cuts, only limits the size of growth while not cutting anything except;

After a three-month impasse, the California Legislature has approved a budget package that addresses the state's massive deficit with billions of dollars in new taxes and program cuts. There are billions of dollars in cuts to schools, healthcare institutions, higher education and programs for the poor.
California now has the highest gas tax, the highest property tax, one of the highest state income tax rates  and the worst climate for running a business in America thanks to being the epic-center of the mortgage meltdown and having a bunch of green peace sympathizing air quality management goons who have nothing better to do than make business a hassle.

Of course nobody mentions the real reasons for the states insolvency.
a 2006 report by the Texas Office of the Comptroller found that the state's estimated 1.4 million undocumented immigrants contributed more in state revenues than they cost in state services during fiscal year 2005.  According to the report, the net gain for the state was $424.7 million.  At the same time, the study showed that in 2005, local governments and hospitals in Texas lost money due to undocumented immigrants, with an estimated net loss of $928.9 million.

To further thicken the plot, the Federation for American Immigration Reform, a non-profit group dedicated to stopping illegal immigration came out with their own study.  Their results contradicted the Texas comptroller's, concluding that illegal immigrants in Texas created an annual fiscal burden of $3.7 billion.

Calculating how much illegal immigrants cost states and municipalities is just as tough as calculating how much they contribute.  Many illegal immigrants take advantage of free public services, from health care to police to schooling for their children.  At the same time, there are likely just as many illegal immigrants out there that don't call the police, go to the hospital, or use other services because they are afraid of being caught and deported.
Screw this place.

At the first opportunity I plan to move my family and my business out.

States are not designed to run a budget surplus, they are supposed to provide services to you proportionate to the amount of taxes you have contributed. But how Calif has gone on for so long in the red before being reined in is really surprising.

When our states run out of dough they come begging to the Federal govt. before even thinking of raising taxes, and the budgets have to be approved for them to see any of it. Often the states compete with each other for Federal funding and as a last resort taxes go up, because of the public backlash. It hasn't been successful policy atm because in NSW the public transport and hospital standards have nose dived due to a lack of real funding.

But when you have a state that needs to make up for it's own deficit you've got serious problems.

So California went broke because illegals contributed $424 million?

I picked a fellow border state as a link for a reason.

Don't selectively read. Just read.

I'd have to say that illegals are a much greater detriment to your systems than any environmental standards.

But yeah, I'd fucking never want to live in California.  Oregon seems a lot nicer.

Hey

in the last 35 years California elected two actors to be governor. So what do you expect.

Plus I think that they have some beanchmark where they need 2/3 vote in order to raise taxes.

Its the old story, people want stuff but no one wants to pay for it. you can't be cheap and live rich at the same time.

Don't move to Oregon, Washington, or Montana because we don't need anymore fucking Kalifornians.  Also why don't you take back some of your fucking illegals you ushered into the country.

I hate Kalifornians like an Irishman hates work.

No kidding!  I declare Texas full.  These idiots from the silly state are drivng up our property values and making it even more dangerous to drive on the roads, since they apparently do not have any traffic laws in California.  I can now see why there is so much Road Rage and driver shootings in Cali. Don't ban guns; teach your people to drive!

North Carolina is in a similar situation to Oregon in that we have a large amount of people moving here.  Many of our newcomers are from Pennsylvania.  While it does change our culture somewhat, it has also stimulated our economy.

I would think Oregon would need some increases in population to get its economy moving again.  Your unemployment rate is kind of high (so is NC's).

For every 15 Californian citizens there is 1 illegal alien.

Emergency rooms are full of illegals (took me 4 hours to get a doctor once while bleeding on the floor).

Schools are full of the children of illegals...and our property taxes pay for them.

Our poor has to compete with illegals because illegals are willing to work under the table (businesses that work in all-cash usually have illegals on their payroll).

1 in 3 babies born in Los Angles are from illegal alien parents.

40% of all federal prisoners are illegal aliens.

I'm Hispanic...and my parent came here legallly.  I wish we allowed more people to come here legally, but penalize those who are here illegally.  While I respect them for their willingless to do the best for their families they are breaking the law and should not be rewarded for it.

Oh, many cities in California are santuary cities (they don't let federal immigration agents know about the illegals they catch breaking the law).

The United States is the land of opportunity, not the land of opportunity to break the law.
