The Sabres/Sharks game was excellent. Sabres tied to the game with 3 seconds left in the game and ended up winning 6-5 in the shoot out.

nhl.com wrote:

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -Derek Roy scored the decisive shootout goal, and had a goal and an assist in regulation in the Buffalo Sabres' 6-5 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Friday night.

Jason Pominville, who snapped a 17-game goal drought, forced extra time by scoring with 4 seconds left in the third in a game the Sabres squandered two three-goal leads. Ryan Miller sealed the win by getting his glove out to stop Milan Michalek's shootout attempt.

It was an emotional night for the community a day after 50 people were killed when Continental Connection Flight 3407 crashed into house in suburban Buffalo. The Sabres, who turned down the NHL's offer to postpone the game, paid tribute to the victims with a moment of silence before the game.

Joe Thornton had four assists, and Patrick Marleau scored twice for the Western Conference-leading Sharks, 1-0-3 on a five-game trip that ends Sunday in New Jersey.

The shootout went into the fifth round after Pominville and Marleau scored in the fourth round.

Roy gave the Sabres the edge when he drove in on Evgeni Nabakov and flipped a backhander that beat the goalie on the short side.

Dan Boyle had a goal and assist, and Joe Pavelksi and Devin Setoguchi added goals for the Sharks.

Jaroslav Spack and Adam Mair, with his career-high seventh of the season, also scored for Buffalo, while Craig Rivet had three assists in the first game against his former team after the Sharks traded him to the Sabres in July.

Pominville scored by deflecting in Rivet's point shot.

It was a turning point for a Buffalo team that otherwise looked done after squandering a 3-0 lead in the first period and a 4-1 lead in the second.

San Jose found its groove behind Thornton, who had a hand in the team's first four goals. Thornton played a particularly significant role on Setoguchi's power-play goal that tied it at 4 at the 6:19 mark of the third period.

Controlling the puck behind the Sabres net, Thornton burst free after Andrej Sekera lost control of his stick. He fed Boyle in the right circle, who sent a pass through the middle to Setoguchi, who one-timed it in the open side.

Pavelski then put the Sharks up 5-4 with 9:46 left. Sidestepping both Mair and defenseman Chris Butler at the right boards, Pavelski snapped a shot over Miller's left shoulder.

It was night and day for the Sabres' power play. After going 1-of-12 on the power play in a 3-1 loss to Ottawa on Wednesday night, Buffalo converted its first three chances and finished 3-of-6.

Notes: Roy and linemate Drew Stafford shared a double-century milestone in producing the Sabres' third goal. For Roy, it was the 100th goal of his career, while Stafford's assist was his 100th career point. ... Sharks C Marcel Goc was placed on injured reserve because of a lower-body injury. He was hurt in a 5-2 win at Boston on Tuesday. ... Sekera returned after missing 12 games because of an ankle injury.

I love the AHL... The Milwaukee Admirals are holding n event for their Feb 19 game called "Don't Be Like Mike." The whole game is going to be basically about Michael Phelps smoking weed. Check out what they're doing.

- All fans who are graduates of a DARE program (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) can get into the game for just $2 by bringing their DARE graduation certificate to the Admirals' office or the Bradley Center box office.

- Anyone with the name Michael, Phelps, Mary Jane, Cheech, Chong, Weed (Wied) or anyone who has won an Olympic Gold Medal can also get their ticket for only $2.

- The team is giving away a weed wacker from National Ace Hardware, signed by the Admirals.

- If the team scores with 4:20 -- a number that's synonymous with pot culture -- on the clock in any period, one fan will win a season ticket for the following season.

- The team is providing a document shredder outside of section 225 for fans to destroy their own incriminating, Phelps-like photos.

Man, fuck Montreal. Every time they have a chance to capitalize on a Rangers loss, they fuck it up. Game's not over, but they're probably done. It's 3-1, end of the second.

4-1 Canucks now. I don't say this as a Bruins fan, but as a hockey fan in general... I am going to laugh so hard if the Habs miss the playoffs. XD

We finally lost 4-2.. It sucks! We played good in the last 10 min of the 3rd period.  So this makes 3 wins and 10 lost in the last 13 games!

Imma kill my self if we don't make the playoffs...

First big, well semi-big, trade this season. Mathieu Schneider to Motreal for picks. Curious as to whether he will even contribute much to the team, seems like he's a little past his prime...

This is why I hate Montreal, when they feel they have to win, they play such a cheap style of hockey. Last year in the first round of the playoffs, they had two diving penalties. What a cheap fucking way to play hockey, meanwhile most teams had none all year and throughout the playoffs. I bring this up because now that Montreal seems to be getting desperate, they're playing cheap and dirty again. Second time somebody got slew-footed by a Canadiens player in the past week! I don't understand how the NHL can give such a huge suspension to somebody for running their mouth off but they don't do anything about players blatantly slew footing people possibly seriously injuring them...

As well as 2001-2002 (didn't make it past the QF, but an excellent season) and countless other playoff seasons in the 80's, I'd say you're quite incorrect.

'95-'01, I'd agree with. How about we talk about '98-'06 for the Rangers, hmm?
