The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Well, I was really hoping to get a HDD that makes my BF2 and other game load times MUCH faster then what I have which is a three year old WD100 7200 something or rather. SO, if the load times from that raptor, are very similar to a Seagate or other WD drive, then...I should reconsider because I WOULD also like some storage space, and that 74 gig Raptor kind of sux.

I haven't really checked benchmarks lately, but the last I knew the Samsung Spinpoint's were pretty much the fastest. Then the Western Digital 640GB (because it's only a single platter, makes it a lot faster). The Seagate 7200.11's or 7200.12's are also quite fast.Im_Dooomed wrote:

Honestly, the very small speed gains are not worth the price tag and lack of storage space on Raptors.
And also, more RAM = way faster BF2 load times. On XP, with 2GB RAM and my Seagate 250GB drive, I got around 40-50 second load times usually (from 0% to join game on an uncached map). When I went to 4GB RAM, I now load from 0% to join game in about 20 seconds.
Yeah...Freezer7Pro wrote:

That is the price I would be willing to pay here,, but considering most hardware is at least +50% more expensive here, you won't get a P182 for anything less than $160
Your thoughts, insights, and musings on this matter intrigue me
50%? Pft, light-weight, it's double here. I bought my P182 for $330 back in 2007. Back then $330 was nothing, 20,000 ISK, now $330 are 41,000 ISK. The value of the USD in Icelandic Krones has DOUBLED in less than a year.FloppY_ wrote:

And the fact that you are not connected to the mainland makes stuff abit more pricey too

Just got it installed. It was a major bitch to install though. I had to remove my top case fan, remove my video card, and move my RAM from 1-3 to 2-4. After I got the heatsink installed, I had to remove my DVD drive to wiggle the case fan back in. o.ODeathUnlimited wrote:

But, idle temps for my 4800+ @ 3GHz @ 1.43V = 28*C.
I'll let you know what my load temps are when I find an accurate utility for Vista 64. CoreTemp, speedfan, everest all report wrong. The only one that's even remotely accurate is CoreCenter by MSI, and that doesn't work on Vista 64. Fuck.

Next.
I found out you can set an offset in CoreTemp. It reads around 15-18*C by default, and BIOS says 28*C idle, so I increased the offset about 12*C. I got around 40*C at load, but it's a guess as to how accurate that is.

I got a Logitech G25 Racing Wheel setup earlier this week. Using it with my new PS3 and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. It rocks. (Paddle shifters are cool.)

Jesus! How much was that?!
noice
$256 with shipping. And worth every penny. The wheel has two motors in it to mimic understeer, oversteer, and the friction of the tires on the road. It even shakes around like crazy if you go off the track or hit something. Each pedal has it's own stiffness - brake being the stiffest, accelerator being the least stiff. You can shift three ways - six-speed H pattern, sequential, or paddle shifters.
It's really a must-have for any car people out there. It feels like you're driving a real car.
