I bet I could get alot out of my 4870 but I'm a bit concerned because right now I am runnig on stock cooling idling around 49C and a load around 64C. I really don't want to burn it out by running it loaded for too long
Fah runs like 10-20C cooler than real 3D load. It doesn't utilize everything on the core, like the memory. It's not unusual to be able to reach 50MHz higher clocks for fah than for gaming.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

64C is nothing. If it gets to 90C you might want to optimize cooling.

I'm going away for a week but I'll leave my PC folding.  The SMP client will most definitely crash at some point, but hopefully the GPU will rack up some real points.

are you failing to meet the deadlines or getting EUE or Unstable_Machine errors? You have loads and loads of WUs but only a few points

The deadlines seem to be Between late Jan and March

I am pausing it when i'm playing bf2, and i'm not getting any errors.

Also before it seemed to be stuck at 0/1500 (or whatever number it was out of, but always 0 out of it) when i hovered over the tray icon, but that seemed to fix it. Have set the checkpoint interval to 3 mins, should i also avoid restarting if i can? (Sometimes i BSOD or freeze completely )

The Arctic Cooling Freezer64Pro is always a good buy. Even the Alpine64 will get the job done. Otherwise Scythe also make great coolers. Zalman is good but IMO overpriced.

Make sure to get a Heatsink that fits socket 939 and that you have some thermal paste. Arctic Cooling heatsinks come with good thermal paste pre-applied. Having some extra thermal paste is always useful in case you need to do a remount.

I don't know what case you have, so I can't really recommend anything. Got any holes that don't have a fan mounted yet? Measure it and add an according one. You can also cut a 120mm hole into your case if you know how. Make sure to get rid of any dirt in your PC and that you have decent cable management for clean airflow

Ty max,

Regarding CPU coolers, these 2 are in my price range:

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150982   Alpine 64 GT      £6.13
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150270   Alpine 64 PWM   £7.84

However, i might be able to borrow a bit more money off my parents (lol) and get this:

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/131148  Freezer-64-LP Dual Cooling Low Profile Processor Cooler   £14.54, is that worthe the extra money?

Regarding case fans - I don't have any at the moment (it was a crap PC when i bought it 2 years ago )
I measured all the holes, here's a labelled picture, as i'm a bit confused as to which measurement refers to the size of the fan and if you should measure from the center or the edge of the hole

https://i39.tinypic.com/15fn0pl.jpg

Obviously if i can take a 120mm fan, i should get one yeah?

+1 for your help

120mm of course.

Each of my case fans cost at least twice as much as those CPU coolers
