I keep getting these failure to write messages. Something about the drive cannot be found at all. Happens on two different computers when trying to copy data from my external HDD to it. I don't know what the problem is. After I format it, it works for a bit and then fails after a few files copied over.

It's an 8GB SanDisk drive. Help me????

BTW: I've tried multiple USB ports, and the external drive works perfectly fine with my two laptops (Acer Aspire and EEE PC 900). What the hell can the problem be??? It's well beyond the return date to bring it back to the store, too. Anyone got a fix?

I've formatted it multiple times in a row and it still repeats the problem after copying over a bit of data. I've still got 4GB of free data left on the bloody thing and it's formatted in FAT32. I want to format it into NTFS, but the formatting utility in Windows won't let me. Any tricks?

Just did another test to see if it would accept something from the Acer's HDD and it's screwing up with that, too.

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

My 8GB USB stick runs fine with FAT32.  I think yours is just broken and there is nothing you can do about it.

I have never heard of NTFS being USB stick compatible. Correct me if I'm wrong.

EDIT: Ah, it is indeed possible, but there are no real gains. See: http://www.online-tech-tips.com/compute … -usb-ntfs/

Got a replacement today. They didn't have any more micros, and I wanted the thing now, so I paid €8 more and got a SanDisk Extreme Cruzer Contour. Faster R/W speed versus the old one, so that's a plus. But the little bugger is HUGE compared to the old one. Does look neat, though ...

Also has the U3 software, so I am going to read about that and see what it is all about. Lot of EEE folks use it to install Windows ...

I've had a failure as well with an 8 GB stick ... data would be corrupted once removed from the USB port.

So, there is either a bad batch of 8GB memory produced, or China has entered into the USB memory market.

They say some sticks can easily become corrupted when they're not ejected properly, which means having to go the lower right corner and rightclicking on it and telling it to eject.  That's so stupid.

Ultimatrox, you really do fail at forums, huh? Read my most recent post. Tard.

So far so good with my new Cruzer. Loaded it up with 7GB worth of crap, so we'll wait and see ...

You'd have to tell me how to find that ...

The box says 18 MB/s write speed and 25 MB/s read.

The U3 Software is actually quite handy, lots of major companys are doing portable versions of there software these days although it is quite expensive. It can be acquired by other means if you so desire though.

There are apparently lots of free software downloads at U3's website. I can really only see it being truly useful to people that ALWAYS need to have certain programs handy (like tech support guys). But I always (90% of the time) have my EEE PC with me, so it's not much use to me ...

Really neat tool should I ever need it, though. Love the way this new USB stick opens, too. Almost like a switchblade knife ...
