[-]July 2, 2008 - Day Of Defeat: Source Palermo Update Available Now

Leveraging the recently released set of free services available in Steamworks, the Palermo Update adds 51 achievements to Day of Defeat: Source, player avatar displays in the scoreboard and win panel, and detailed player statistics that are integrated with the Steam Community features (www.steamcommunity.com).

In addition, this update adds support for popular features introduced in Valve's Team Fortress 2 (TF2), the PC title named multiplayer game of the year by Gamespy.com and PC Gamer. These include "nemesis/revenge" freeze cam and new effects driven by the particle system introduced to the Source engine for TF2.

Finally, this update also introduces a new map, Palermo, which is a remix of the most popular community map, dod_salerno, originally created by Magnar "insta" Jennsen.

They still haven't fixed the bollocks netcode from the beta. Probably not going to play the game again until they do since using the Kar98k is now more or less useless compared to what it was before.

Have you even tried it yet? Ive played sniper and pretty much all class, seem like its working fine. I havent got any 3-4 headshot bullshit no kill yet.

No I didn't try it at all. In fact I don't even own the game I just said whatever random bullshit I thought would look cool.

(I guess I'll have to reduce graphics somehow).

Does free weekend officially start today (Friday-Monday) or Saturday-Sunday? I have a few friends that are eager to try this game out, especially after the most recent updates.

It's great fun- everyones complaining about the changes- but I feel that's just because DoD's community is so old and elitist, there has been no pub-scene at all for the past 2 years or so, and they hate the fact that their perfect smallknit game has been violated by public exposure

Yup, have the same problem with the smoke, get horrible fps, but i think its something most os us have. But overall the game is still good...they havent screwed it like i think they would...i sure would have like em to only put achivements witout toutching anything else but, oh well!

It feels like a dumbed down version of DoD:S. Assault and Support have received additional accuracy, takes less time to shoulder a bazooka/panzershreck, less time to zoom into crosshairs for riflemen... And worst of all, it seems like they have reduced the recoil for an unmounted mg because I've seen several people who were consistently running around mowing people down with it.

This update is BF2 Dice worthy I'm not liking it so far.

I haven't tried it since the updating, but that doesn't sound promising. I liked the inaccuracy, zoom times and massive recoil. Because it was probably like that under many conditions.

Just played a few rounds, it wasn't too bad. I have played it a few other times and didn't really enjoy it then. Might have been the maps I was on. But for five bucks I might buy it just in case I get bored with other games.
