'Besides the memory capacity  ( 512 MB) for the video card GeForce 9800 GT and Radeon 4850 , the general properties will be the large energy consumption and increased requirements for heat removal systems . Both cards will be completed by two 6 pin power connector PEG (PCI express graphics), which supply 75 W energy each, which in ensures to this adapter up to 150 W.

The maximum (theoretical) consumption for geForce 9800 GT and Radeon HD 4850  is 225 W. Remained necessary 75 W are ensured by the PCI express slot .

According to some data,  the radeon HD 4850 and HD 4870 cards  consume 110 and 160 W of energy (with nominal operating frequencies) . For comparison, the GeForce GTX 260, competitor of HD 4870 , consumes ~182 W of energy. '

'HD4870's TDP is 157W'

'Hardware-Infos claims that a 4870 card will have a TDP of 150W, while 4850 cards will have a TDP of 110W.'

From a few sources, looks like its around 150W either way.

That's like a fucking HD2900!
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

I got it because they were discontinuing it, so it was only $50
Looks good enough to power it though?
Got 38A on the 2x6pins

You have 36A on each rail? My HX520 only has 18A.

4 rails x 18A

Ah, yeah I've got 3x 18A. I figured you only bothered counting two rails as that's all you're going to be able to stick in the GPU anyway.

no no, silly man, count all the amps, it makes your e-peen bigger

80A , but at 900W?  that's only an extra 8A.  how much did that cost you?

Edit: $180, saw yours and accidentally subtracted :\

the ModXstream is Modular, and getting 600W would be insane because I plan to SLI 260s (or next gen equal) later on.

Edit: OCZ ModXstream 900W

$170 from Newegg...
Mine's $60 now? Much cheaper than I bought it...

Also, enjoy those 4870s GTX260s.

I consider the rebates, but just use the real price as you may not always get it.

Mines much cheaper as well, it was $250 back in Dec when I first started planning my rig.

Edit: Since you brought it up, I decided to look up how much my rebates will be. Just knocked off $100 my rig without even knowing it.

Yeah...maybe I'll pick a modular model up.  It'd be nice.

Update:

Apparantly 4870 is on average 10% slower than GTX 280.

I love that, mid range part just shy of nvidias high end:

GTX 260 is what it was in real terms meant to go against, it's done that but look how close it gets, $300 that is a steal, GTX 260 is alteast $100 and slower.

I think I may jump on the faboy waggon and start saying it will rape the GTX 280.  If the single core version is within 10%, even on non crossfire enabled game's it will still hold it's own, but fuck me CF on it's game over

Fact now that I think about it, am sure the 3870X2 had each gpu core overclocked from standard, they might even manage to clock it highly enough that on non CF games it's a dead heat.

I wonder what the nvidia boys are saying about all of this.  Even if they drop the GTX 260 by $100 which is a bit embarassing so soon, it still isnt going to be as quick as the competition.

I'll be awaiting benchmarks of the 4870X2 in Crossfire, and the 280GX2 in SLI

That's if they can sort out the drivers and shit.

4 cores.

I never did see how the 3870X2 and 9800GX2 were in crossfire/SLI

Your cawzmess would explode because it fails so much.

@Mek-Stizzle, a dual GPU version of the GTX 280 is a while off dude, as far as january before they get onto 55nm (last I heard) and even then that isnt really enough of a heat saving to make a dual GPU version work.  Two 236W cores on the one card, and costing twice the price.  Especially if ATi's claim of 500USD for the 4870X2 is true.

Might get that for my new PC or maybe I will get the 9800GX2 not shure yet, still wating for the price of quad core to go down a bit more
