I want to drill one of those curtain rod holder things in, and eventually hang a rod itself and curtains on it.
Problem is, someone already tried to mount them with the wrong wall screw things, and it fell down.

I need to know how to fix this hole in the wall.

And no, I'm not the one who really wants to hang this thing, and I didn't do the drilling the first time.

That hole is large enough that you will need to use a repair kit.  It works similar to a fiberglass repair kit, but for sheetrock.

well you could plaster over then make sure you drill the holes deep enough into the wall so that it doest rip anymore chunks off the wall so you shouldn't have to paint it if the mount covers the damaged part of the wall.
Dear God please let my karma one day reach 100, whether it be tomorrow or 1000 years in the future i want it to happen.

Yeah, total structural damage, unsafe for occupation. Demolition is the only option I'm afraid. here's the bill

depending on the size of the hole, you could use the tape approach.  however if it is too big, then you might consider cutting a piece of sheetrock and use some special mountin hardware that anchors the replacement rock (that fills the hole) to the sides of the hole.  go to lowes or home depot or any hardware store and they can identify this stuff.  once it is anchored, then you can tape over it and it will give more stability than just tape and mud since you would be essentially filling in only the gap between the original hole and the new piece you put inside the hole (which will be small gap)

another way would be to cut the hole in the wall in rectangular shape.  cut a second piece of drywall so that it will straddle the new hole on either side by a few inches.  by placing this backing piece of drywall inside the hole and securing it with some drywall screws from the outside wall, you now have a backer-board.  then, you can place a new piece of wallboard in the rectangular hole and it should be secured from falling into the hole by your backer plate.  tape it and mud it up.

good luck

cheap & lazy option
1. fill hole with scrunshed up paper
2. smooth over with polly filla
3. have cup of coffee or quick shag
4. paint appropriate colour and try again with rawl plugs desinged for sheetrock
