That thinks the unlock/achievement process is totally fucked?

Seriously, I haven't seen a developer community unbalance their own game this bad since......well, I don't think I've ever seen it this bad.

Now come on, they release an achievement pack full of achievements you cannot for the most part, achieve naturally through game play, i.e. spy taunt, etc.  Then they release weapon unlocks that unbalance the class.  The backburner giving the Pyro an extra 50 health now means that the Pyro now has more health than the soldier without the speed decrease, more health than a heavy when being healed by a medic and a flamethrower that crits every single time due to poor hit detection.  Aside from this, they have pretty much eradicated spies, because honestly, who the fuck wants to be the spy surrounded by pyro's?  Another thing, mentioned above, is the poor hit detection.  This was a problem before, but with the new unlocks and the number of people using them the problem has been magnified and multiplied. 

Besides the above problems I have mentioned it seems to me that another problem stemming from this is the quality of teams now.  Unless your playing on a full team of friends, it's next to impossible to find a server that has a team without 60% pyro's on it.  Go play a goldrush server if you don't know what I'm talking about.  The map just rotates between the first and second maps because the blue pyro's have no problem pushing the cart into the poorly fortified 1st stage but can't deliver on the second due to the increased fortifications.  In the odd chance it goes to the 3rd stage the cart doesn't make it past the first checkpoint. 

Personally I think they should release one weapon for each class at a time, instead of the one full class pack at a time.  This way you wouldn't have one or two overpowered classes and 5 or 6 under-powered classes.  It just seems to me, that whoever makes the decisions at Valve is a stupid bastard, this being the same person most likely that introduced the lovely money system in CS:S (but thats a whole other gripe of mine).

TF2 went from being one of lulziest games on my steam list to one of the most annoying, unbalanced, not-fun games over night.  Is anyone else going to be sitting out on this game until everything is released and balanced?

I've Heard the same complaint hundreds of times and you're right. These unlocks for one class throws off the balance and its dumb. I guess their only reason for doing it would be to extend the playability of the game, waiting for new unlocks.

I agree, the back-burner is way OP right now. However Valve will likely do some tweaking on it. The majority of the Pyro achievements can be easily attanded in regular gameplay, really the Spy taunt one is the only achievement that requires the cooperation of an enemy.

I also agree that the process by which Valve releases the packs is messed up. For both Pyro and Medic everyone started to pleh as the class with the new shit because it gets new shit and the others don't. This makes the game very annoying for all types of players. Srs players cannot get on a good team as it is stacked with a single class. Players who just want the unlocks can't get them as they need more people to be playing a wider variety of classes to get the achievements. However as with medic the number of Pyros is dying down. The percentage of Pyros on a team as I have noticed has significantly decreased since Thursday when the update was launched. Also Valve were smart and made the unlocks come at much less achievements than for the medic meaning that the people who are not big Pyro players will quickly get the unlocks and gtfo while the people who play Pyro allot (like myself) will be able to enjoy getting all the achievements for Pyro.

That said, Valve stated previously that they felt Medic was underplayed and Pyro underpowered, which was why they released the packs for those classes before the others. Most likely they have learned from what happened with those classes and in the future will release multiple packs for multiple classes at the same time or in much more rapid succession.

I decided to give it another go.

Mistake.  Definitely sitting out.

Any dev community that sacrifices game balance for marketability is a bad dev community as far as I'm concerned.

Pyro needed it. It's not like you still can't completely dominate pyro with engi/soldier/heavy/sniper/etc. The update fixed a broken class.

Also, I don't know what you mean by the backburner getting crits ALL the time. It only crits in the back for me, and even then it only crits at the back, not the side or 'near back' like the knife does.

One thing that definitely does need changing about it is the fact that if you have an enemy facing you and an enemy facing the other way, you can fire at the one facing away and the crits will affect both of them. That shouldn't happen as far as i'm concerned.

I do think from a competitive perspective that all of these unlock updates are just arbitrary useless gimmicks there to keep the XboxLIVE kiddo's happy with a faux-'Achievement' system. Honestly, 50% of people just pad the achievements in the first day anyway on special maps/servers... what's the actual point of them? They don't establish any measurement of 'skill' or 'accomplishment', they're merely life-span extenders.

The sad thing about these longevity-generators is that they collectively give a huge middle-finger to the league scene. Update after update we have to try and deal with and customize gameplay to accomodate to these bogus class 'balances' and overpowered weapons. Perhaps pre-patch Pyros were a little weak... but the 3 weapons and extra ability they have now puts them far above many other classes in terms of gameplay now- sorry, but there's no argument about it.

Plus, look at the timescale Valve are taking on this process. It's taken 4 months to get 2 class patches out. Does that mean it'll be another year or two before the game finally reaches a state of 'balance' and 'fairness' as far as weapon-unlocks and class abilities goes? What a joke... no thought put into it at all.

Just pointing out that it only took 1 month between the Medic and Pyro, so it'll be ~1 month until the next one.

I do agree that they've gone too far with the Pyro now. I think the only problem though is that they removed the damage drop off. It's made the flames far too powerful.

I'm also not sure about the +50 health that the backburner gives.

Both changes seem like overkill to me.

We've noticed that it seems the backburner gets crits from either directly behind (as it should), but also from directly in front.  It almost seems as if the flames are going through the body and the hitbox on the back is triggering.  But then on a different note, if you hit someone in the back but at the wrong angle, it does not crit as it should.   Just seems that this weapon and the corresponding hitbox's are extremely flaky.

The only thing i think they should do is lessen the compressed air blow back on enemies its more powerful then a rocket or grenade/single sticky.

As a regular Pyro myself, I think they should put the damage falloff back, but not as bad as it was before.
