Spore Release Date Just Announced!

Your long wait for the release of Spore for PC just got shorter. The highly anticipated game that allows you to control the evolution of a civilization from single-celled organisms to space- traveling sentient beings is slotted for a September 7 ship date. That only gives you a few months to develop your Zeus complex. In the meantime, check out the Spore video trailer and screen shots here. Pre-order online now or reserve at your local GameStop.

Like we can trust release dates set months beforehand in the gaming industry anymore.

Me either. I don't see the appeal.

Someone explain please why they're excited for it? Maybe I'll get involved in the hype too, but right now I don't see why everyone's so pumped up for it.

QFT - this has been delayed how many times already? Who's to say they won't do it again?  WHENEVER it does come out, I'll be sure to take a look.  But yeah, I'm not getting my hopes up for another purported "release date."

Essentially a game with 5 genres integrated seamlessly. Everything in it can be modified by the user, and from what I can tell, it works pretty painlessly. The world is populated with everyone else's creations, although you don't necessarily play with them in real time. It's an asynchronous interaction, meaning that you'll only work with people's creations, populated by the game.

I personally like the creative aspect of it, and the overall: going from a single celled organism to a galactic empire is a pretty cool premise to me.
