Well, not really...

But probably the most profitable game purchase of all time

http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/afp/071216/o … as_offbeat

After catching his 15-year-old smoking pot, a father sold the hard-to-get "Guitar Hero III" video game he bought his son for 90 dollars for Christmas at an online auction, fetching 9,000 dollars.

The sale took place after the father spent two weeks searching for the video game for the Nintendo Wii gameboard.

"So I was so relieved in that I had finally got the Holy Grail of Christmas presents pretty much just in the nick of time. I couldn't wait to spread the jubilance to my son," the father wrote on the eBay website.

"Then, yesterday, I came home from work early and what do I find? My innocent little boy smoking pot in the back yard with two of his delinquent friends."

The man, a school teacher, who kept his identity private, said he sold the coveted video game to punish his son and discourage him from smoking dope.

The sale was a boon for the family's bank account, since the game the father purchased for 90 dollars (US) was finally sold to an Australian who plunked down 9,100 dollars for it.

The naughty son, however, will not go without a present on Christmas.

"I am still considering getting him a game for his Nintendo. Maybe something like Barbie as the Island Princess or Dancing with the Stars ... I know he will just love them," the father said, tongue-in-cheek.

Yes it is.  I just tried to do it... its nearly impossible to find for the Wii, really hard for the 360, and easy to find for the PS3 and PC

I got lucky and got both the Wii concole and GH3 for it for my kids this Christmas.  Its nearly impossible to find either in my town. I know others who are looking for both and havent had any luck at any stores.  Stores sell out of them as soon as they roll off the trucks.

Sell it for 9000 on ebay then find the game again. 8050+ profits.

Who fucking care how hard it is to find? No video game is worth nine thousand dollars. That's like those people that paid crazy prices for furbies and tickle me elmos.

I bet that guy smoked pot, but with no friends... he's just jealous

Geez, maybe I should go into business... I have made weekly trips into the local Best Buy picking up Christmas gifts... Every week there are about 5 stacks of PS3 versions, 2 stacks of Wii and PC versions and 1 stack of 360 versions... Each little stack/display is about 10 copies of the game... The local GameCrazy has about 3 of each (minus the PC version) always in stock.

I was also told Rock Band was selling for an outrageous amount because it was so hard to find... Everyone around here has plenty of those too...

Same for Scene-It...

What is the deal? I should go into business here! Need a game? Give me the cash, pay for the shipping plus about $10 profit for me and it could be yours! Forget outrageous $9,000 games and $15,000 systems!!! Forget Ebay! I need an extra job! LOL!!!

It was a hoax.  I know a guy that messaged the seller, giving him advice (as he has plenty of experience on this subject), and was met with a "STFU" response.  eBay has gotten out of control.

And EBAY is a cesspool... Was a great concept to start... and scumbags polluted it

That's one mega profit. And good on the dad for discouraging his son.

I don't see what's so great about the game myself. But meh, some people quite clearly do.

I bought mine a few weeks before Thanksgiving, wasnt really hard to find either. I just called around until I did find them. After about 10 stores, I finally found the console at GameCrazy. The dude working there offered to escort me out to my car, I thought that was rather odd. Guess he thought someone would try to gank it from me. GH3 I got at ToysRus, last one on the shelf.  During my Christmas shopping Ive kept an eye out for them for other family members who wanted to buy one. Have yet to see anymore while Im out. My family member has just about given up. Some stores have even told them they wouldnt get anymore until the new year. While copies of GH3 for PS3 and xBox are overflowing everywhere.
