Is anyone using the "Play Now" in the bf2 Menu or the "Play Bf2 Online" start icon at all ?

I tried it like 3 times and the 3 results were the following:

1. Find myself in an empty server
2. Find myself on a server with a ping of 400
3. Find myself in a server with 2 other players

Do you know how this work ? Is it total random ? Thats why its not working well.
Why cant EA make it the way you can select it on filters like "it should have at least 6 players" or "ping limit on 120"

I'd say its random. Used it a couple of times though.

I have never had much luck with the Play Now option either.  The idea is to make joining a game faster because you don't have load a server list but it ends up taking longer because like you said, you end up in a map that you either don't like, is empty or you have such a high ping that you get kicked anyway.

I call it the "LAG NOW" button. When I accidentally press it, it won't do anything for minutes, then load me into an empty or high ping server.
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

I've used it like twice, It took me way longer to connect to a server then if I was to choose one myself, and it never picked a good one at that.

It's the shittiest function ever spawned for any video game ever.

I don't think in all of BF2's two-year history that it has EVER been fixed.

I'd rather click the "Join Game" button in Patch 1.3 then click the "PLAY NOW" button anyday

It's "supposed to" go out and search servers, and throw you into one with a low ping.  Of course it sucks because the server may be empty, or you get into a map or something else you don't want to play.

"Play Now", where "Now" is defined as any time after the present to the end of the universe as we know it.

That button always makes BF2 freeze for me so I avoid it at all costs.

(i have to formate my computer every 90 days <-- Not the point) so i also have to install everything again and i ALWAYS delete play now shortcut.
Try to disconnect from server double click it when nothing seems to happen and in couple second you are searchin server where to play "-.-, it seems to put me always to finnish server(im from finland) so i guess its still random but also try to get closet one, idk it SUCKS!

Yeah don't like to use it, but if it bothers you just click the Escape button when it starts loading up a server.

*Play now* button always worked for me.
0 takes 4-5 min.
1 finds the server with lowest ping
2 finds the server with 5+people
3 connecting

PlayNow: The large 'Play Now' button is on most screens in the in-game settings, and is quite tempting to press. It promises to get you into a BF2 multiplayer game rapidly - however this isn't the case. If you press this button you will find that it will seem to sit forever at the 'Server Search' screen. It's likely because BF2 waits for each and every available server to update before it can find the closest, lowest pinging one with an empty slot, and there can literally be thousands of these. For this reason PlayNow is not recommended.
